Act of War demo out...

Its really good. My only complaint is that you cant kill (or maybe you can but I did not notice it) enemy garrisoned in open structures. Also heavt snipers was bit to effective agaisnt vehicles.

All infantry has the ability to crawl (go stealthy) and lay in ambush wich imo added a lot to the game.

The demo was a bit on the short side but then its only a demo. Looking forward to getting the full game!

"The procedure entry point WMCreateSyncReader could not be located in the dynamic link lybarary wmvcore.dll"

I get this message when double clicking on the executable.
this is after installation

Mac: try installing the wm9 runtime files included in the installation.

mine won't work either, but it just says "program encountered an error."

So basically, this game is there to look pretty and be easy to play...

I can live with that :) I've been looking forward to something like this in fact, and i do rather enjoy Generals. Making your own maps for that is rather fun actually.

But its so boring and such a typical RTS (at least its not ANOTHER ww2 rts)

It's mission 6 in the full game.

They most likely tooned down the difficulty due to it being the only demo map and not a tutorial. Also, it can be one of those campaigns where you change team under your control half way through, so it might be one of the first maps you control Task Force: Talon in.

I cant understand why people say WC3 is so great, I dont like mainly becouse the units are so able to take so high amounts of damage and also no real support for large battles. I dont like the focus on heroes either and would have prefer it supporting more real medieval combat (eg troops come in large formations) for those non magic user units.

wow
this game is great !
you guys gotta download the demo !

5 missions? I only got one!

EDIT: Or did I miss interperate axyons post on the 1st page?

I think its 1 map with 5 missions aka objectives, damn marketing screwing us over with words lol.

yep :( pretty sad for a 680 meg demo with about 30 mins of gameplay.

Firefox freezes when the download finishes, so I only get the .PART file instead of the full .EXE. :(

It's what I read on news sites, but yeah, missions could be interpreted as objectives though. A little deceiving :/

But you forget. When blizzard made starcraft I guess they relized something. Mapping. A huge amount of starcrafts community bases themselves around mapping. Tons of maps are made because of mapping, maps that are nothing at all in any way like the real game.
With Wc3 the editor is amazing(Ecspeically with TFT). The editor in the game is breathtaking. Tons of triggers to pretty much do anything u want. Custom models etc... No RTS has a editor match it.

This is what makes Sc and Wc3 great.
The ums(or custom for wc3) games usually have absolutly nothing to do witht he main game. Starcraft diplomacy maps are almost aways during the 1800's, and are really fun. You never know if your ally is allied to your enemies. If your ally will help you out in a war or what. Becoming a superpower is a great experince(Which i always am).(BTW Starcraft is a very futuristic, most played RTS, 2d, 1998, sweet ass balanced(Yes having 3 races that are absolutly nothing in any way alike.).

Wc3 Diplomacys are fun though not really as good as starcrafts. Wc3 though has a map called DOTA. Defense of the ancients. Really fun. Then there are also aeon of strifes(Taken from starcraft, it was the protoss civil war. Very few actually know that). Wc3 has has insanley fun RPG's and hero sieges and such. Hero defenses. I personally hate the main game of wc3. But I cannot resist the custom games people have made.

Play a custom game. Play a hero siege or a prison break or a footman wars. There insanley fun with wc3. Also check out mauls. ^_^.

BTW, most who hate wc3 play sc. ^_^.

I played Starcraft the other day. I thought it was pretty boring. Just like C&C1 is boring nowadays, although I can see why it was great when it first came out, I loved C&C when it first came out.

The I downloaded the WC3 demo. I couldn't believe that it was practically the same game as Starcraft. Nowadays games like that totally bore me, they've barely evolved. Warhammer: Dark Omen is a far better game than both of these. I seriously think it gets good reviews because Blizzard is written on the side of the box.

The only RTS's i've enjoyed in the past few years are the Total War series and Ground Control II.

Exactly. I don't even play SC's regular game or WC3's regular game. I play customs and UMS's. I'm totally hooked on dota's right now in WC3. If you play dota's we should play on bnet sometime Mineral.

gah people, UMS maps get old. Starcraft's gameplay is just hella fun.

Dawn of War pwns too, I'm not a big WC3 guy tho (FT is too hard because everyone who plays it but me is leet as hell)

This is actually the first time I hear someone praise WC3 and actually mention custom maps. I got to agree with that, the custom maps can be really fun but WC3 itself is not a good RTS imo.

true, custom maps is the only thing i play on wc3 for over 2 years now

the demo is ok, a bit slow for some reason...i guess im just used to totalwar style combat o.o;

I'm underwhelmed myself. It just looks like a Generals expansion pack. Maybe I have to hold my judgement until I've seen the much talked about urban levels, but still ......

i havent played generals but it looks SOMEWHAT like generals =(

Just played the demo mission.
To me it just looks like Generals. This seems it is going to be the good single player campaign generals didn't have.
The new features & little improvement of graphics are ok, some are pretty neat.
I won't buy it. Not enough of an imporvement from Generals or any other RTS game... i would say.

one thing i will love about this game is the cinematics...they actually have LIVE ACTORS! i havent seen those since...well...since the red alert days! man that brings back memories.
im for sure gonna get it just for that bit of nostalgia factor =P

[Echoey Christopher Lee voice]

DO NOT GET THIS GAME.

[/Echoey Christopher Lee voice]

It's actually looking pretty good to me. Still haven't had a chance to get the demo, but what the hey, I'll just read other people's opinions on it :p
