I just bought Half Life 2: Episode 1, expecting to play it all damn night. Right after I installed Steam, it asked me to put the activation code in to start installing the actual game. I've done this with other games since the codes just slapped on the front, but I can't find it anywhere on HL2;E1. I looked everywhere and tried any numbers I could find but none were even close to what the actual code probably is. Anyone that has this game, where did you find the code? I bought it "new" at Gamestop, but it was already opened and had no instruction manual. No clue.

Someone opened it and stole the code, to sell. Take it back.

What do you expect to happen? Someone to give you theirs? Not that it would do you any good...

If you REALLY bought the game, and there REALLY was no key included, then just take it back to the store. There is NOTHING any of us can do for you.

And there is no manual - just a slip of paper with the movement etc keys, and the CD key you can't find.

It's pretty gay how there's no manual. If it was new, but it was opened... guess what's wrong? :O

Please don't capitalize random words, you're not Shasta! :P

To the first poster, you probably shouldn't have bought a game that had already been opened...always inspect the box/case before buying.

Ive started capitalising random words now :)

Ontopic: I found mine on the reference card.

I didn't expect anyone to actually give me their code. No way that would work. Just seeing if there was something missing in/on the case. I'll just take it back and make them give me an unopened box. That shits happened so much at Gamestop. Bought a "new" game there before (actually, Half Life 1 for Ps2), no wrapping or anything, when i got home I smoked (gives you the best experience a game can give you, haha) and got ready to play it, but who would've known, looked like some one rubbed the disc on sandpaper. If all else fails, I may just say screw it and wait for the Orange Box for 360.

About that HL-Ps2 thing, just what happened to me. I returned it.

Check it before you go home? Hell if their service is that bad, check it before you leave the shop.

Yea, I just returned the one without the cd key, and went to the other gamestop and checked the case to make sure. Sure enough the reference card was in there along with the cd key. Went through hell to get it ( my gf got pissed that we were running all over the place to get one game, and dont ask me how but a huge fight came out of it). I get home, knowing it was worth it. It began the game, getting my hopes up, and then right after I took the drop at the beginning to climb alongside the cliff once Dog opened the door for me, my computer shut off. I restart it, just to make it a minute further and it kept shutting down. Seriously, something just doesn't want me to play any Half-Life's. I beat the second one a million times for xbox, and after that everything else (Hl one, Hl2E1, and deathmatch) has messed up one way or the other. Definately making my decision stronger on waiting for the Orange Box for 360. But of course my 360 is broken, too. I have bad luck.

Try verifying the GCF's by clicking the game in the steam menu, then pressing properties (should be bottom right). Then there's a tab at the top I think to go to a GCF tab (I can't really remember, just try 'em all) and there's a button in one of them for "Verify Integrity of Game Caches". Try that, then play.

Hope it helps.
