I like alot of people are behind a proxy or firewall or whatever you want to call it....I dont pretend to understand :D.

I'm on a uni campus, so couldnt do much about it, anyway, was shitting myself that I wouldn't be able to play Hl2 because I would need to connect to steam to activate it and this wouldn't have been possible.

Anyway, I have been using a program called http tunnel for the last couple of months to get aruond the blocks, in order to use p2p programs. Tried it out with steam and got it too connect, so shouldn't have a problem activating! happy days.

Hope this helps anyone in the same situation as me.

(http://www.http-tunnel.com - There is a page on the forums regarding steam if you search. You will need another program called sockscap as well.)

so u think this program will allow us people with the game in hand to activate?

yeah it will allow people with the game in hand, who are on a restricted internet connection to activate. Thats the only people it really applys to...

yes but im sure those people would like to know what settings you applied to in the program for steam.

I beleive they was a few people asking yesterday.

i can't get it to work :[
says connecting but never connects..

my uni has blocked the site, could you please give me some more info on how to solve this problem, i would be very annoyed if i found out i could not activate my game :(

Getting caught using a port tunneller can get you a perm ban from your univ. It's better to call tech and explain your situation to them and have them open up the right channels for a few hours so you can activate.

I cant get access to the forums on that site because of the firewall that is up, could anybody tell me what the config for the 2 programs needs to be. So I can get them to work, it would be greatly appreciated.

just some one list what you have in your settings of the program for steam.

100% easier for those guys.

I'd say do this first...i'm sure most tech guys would do it for you, if you ask nicely.

yes please, that would be great, you have to sign in to the forums and most proxy sites wont let you sign into forums

you need to have the program sockscap.....add steam in it...

you need to have http tunnel program running, probably with the high speed service going...not sure if it will work with the free one.

http://www.http-tunnel.com/html/solutions/http_tunnel/client2.asp

make sure you use the above client, the most uptodate one.

Then just run steam through sockscap and it should work.

If your uni has blocked access to the httptunnel website, they may have blocked access to the httptunnel servers as well.

I got my university account suspended for 2 weeks for using Http tunneler software to get steam working, so beware. And no they won't open the ports for you, for security reasons.
