And now to our top story, 27 people were ritualistically beheaded at a local EB Games. They were repeated to have said "Carmack said today!" and some even wrote Release Date in the blood of the dead. Police say that the people still alive inside have build their own chain of command based upon how long they have been a member of the community. Fans of Duke Nukem Forever have been quoted to saying "Thank god our game is never coming out!"

I have too much time on my hands.
 
HL2 will probably be released the next Friday the 13th... lets see... not anytime this year! :)

so it looks like august 3rd for the US. and the 13th for everybody else...
i hope we can get some more confirmation.
 
So... Doom 3 on Friday the 13th... How about Half-Life 2 on 9/11? Kind of like that you fight the Combine (terrorists) in the game?
 
I reckon Doom 3 will be pretty fun. I kinda feel sorry for it 'cause no one really pays that much attention to it these days. It's a nice idea releasing it on Firday 13th though.

well this is a HL2 forum.. so ur not gonna get an overwhelming number of pple being too excited about Doom3.. try a Doom3 forum and u should get an idea of how anticipated this game is :)
 
i think doom3 will blow all our socks off, even more than hl2.. i mean, i think it is general knowledge that hl2 isnt as good as gaming can get.. anyone that thinks that really has some problems..

EDIT- thus, i want doom3 2 to 3 times more than hl2...

Well it won't come as a great surprise to anyone, I'm sure... but there is no Doom 3 review in this month's PC Gamer magazine (UK edition, August).

In the July edition there was an announcement at the back of the magazine that Doom 3 would be reviewed in the August edition, but a later announcement by the editor in the PC Gamer forum stated that the review would not be appearing after all.

The back of the August edition now advertises a "secret exclusive" in the September issue, in line with the US edition of the magazine, but does not mention Doom 3 at all. The September issue will be published on 5th August.

Hopefully the review will feature in the September issue of the US magazine, which I believe will be published later this month.

They are both gonna be great games but i want HL2 2 to 3 times more then Doom 3 because of the exact same reason you just said. Except visa-versa. :p

Also, interesting fact. Friday the 13th gained a reputation as unlucky when, i think it was during sometime the 11th century, When a french king condemned the Knights of the Templar to be burnt at the stake as heretics. Roughly 400 or so of them were killed on that day. Before that day the Knights of the Templar were some of the most powerful people on the planet.

Anyone whose read "The Da Vinci Code" has an idea of what i'm talking about
 
It's getting exciting now :)

I've such fond memories of Doom. One night I was woken up by my dad playing Doom - there he was, 40 years of age, mumbling vague insults at the monitor while finishing off his 6th can of beer. Upon discovering the chainsaw he literally cackled with glee. For someone who despise video games, and usually doesn't drink much, this is quite a testement to Doom's greatness.

As with most good games the premise is very simple and, as such, there's little that can go wrong with it. Doom 3 looks to have kept the simplicity while adding greatly to the atmosphere, nothing else is needed.

Having massive outside levels, complex AI, layered plot etc etc would completely miss the point - and definately not make for a better game. It's just you, an unknown solider, hiding in the dark and shitting your pants - untill, of course, you've have enough and it's time to get out the minigun :D
 
I haven't seen this 13th august news on any major gamesite so far - except that newspaper. I mean it's "Doom 3's releaste date!" - should be everywhere by now. Any other evidence that this is a solid release date?
 
Doom II will rock house anyhow, can't wait for it. :)

Doom 3 will be good fun......unless the CS:S Beta has started by then in which case it'll have to wait :)
 
Doom 3 I think will be immense fun for a short amount of time. I just find that with doom/quake/unreal Even HL I have no real desire to play again atm. If I'm looking for a long game thats not Counterstrike then I'm looking towards the walls of Rome
