He doesn't explicitly say that RaceX is not canon, or am I missing something?

I guess this is just the simple truth:
Marc Laidlaw said:
The whole issue of canon is something the fans came up with. I guess you will be able to identify as canon those story elements we continue to build on and develop and mention repeatedly as the story progresses. Others might fall by the wayside once they've served their purpose. Couldn't you say the same of us all?

Listen damn you, Black Mesa WAS destroyed by a nuke. Race-X had nothing to do with the nuke, however.

Rapstah, he's trying to say that if you accept one part of OP4 as canon (the BM nuke), then you should accept the whole package, including RaceX.

Oh, and Samon: canon can't talk, so shhhht.

for some reason valve dont seem that keen on making existing creatures synths, they like introducing new monsters to fight.

tho i still think hunters are eyehounds turned combine and given longer legs.

/facepalm. OMG TEHY HAVE TEH 3 LEGS TEHY MUST BE HOUNDEYES LOLOL.

Advisors look like slugs, but does that make them slugs?

was black mesa destroyed by a nuke? op4 = canon.

Sense, this does not make.

the only source of black mesa being destroyed by a nuke is op4, therefore if you believe black mesa was destroyed by a nuke, op4 is canon. and everyone believes black mesa was destroyed by a nuke, even you.

dont fight it samon, you know this to be true. join the darkside and embrace op4!

when the game is actually released i'll take a closer look at them, but the comparison goes beyond 3 legs, the position of the legs and the shape of the body is very similar, and from videos/reports ive seen they also like to hunt in small packs. im not saying for a moment they definately are houndeyes, but id certainly like to think they are. i love those lil guys.

and no, advisors look nothing like slugs at all.

The only thing Laidlaw told Gearbox about the story was that BM was supposed to be nuked. Therefore it's the only true canonical fact in OP4.

laidlaw does not = canon. there are loads of things he had no input in which are canon. he himself says the halflife story is flexible to his needs, if he decided he wanted black mesa to be in a future episode/game he would un-nuke it in a second.

You lose by default for Jar Jar Binks. I win this argument by your own admission.

i used it because phantom menace is the op4 of starwars. ITS CANON AND THERES NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT AAAAAHAHHAHA MIDICHLORIANS AND JARJARBINKS AAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHHAHA.. ahem.

What ever hapend to him anyways
on Half life 2 Barney and of course gordon eli isac breen but.........one is missing isnt there something called the marrines........what ever happen to them

I want to know what ever happened to your spelling and grammar... Or does it just not exist?

and no, advisors look nothing like slugs at all.

If you really believe that, good luck in life.

In all seriousness, what happened to their shock power? Are you going to tell me that the combine let that slip in order to give them plasma weapons? Because pleanty of combine warriors have plasma weapons. The unique sound wave would have been used.
Besides, houndeyes are little shits, hunters are big and scary.

Jesus, reading an argument here is like stepping into a playground :p

I think "canon" doesn't really apply to HL1 and its expansions, as Valve seem to have taken what they liked from HL and used it to build HL2, which I consider to be the true Half-Life universe. The early games were a mesh of good and bad ideas, after all. Xen, for instance, was a bit... crap (both in terms of gameplay and narrative).

RaceX was purely a Gearbox creation that doesn't figure at all in my thinking about the world. Understand, they wanted to come up with a set of creatures that would create gameplay they knew how to make. They could have been making an original title or an add-on for some other franchise, and plugged RaceX into that--the reason being that they had gameplay they wanted to explore and needed the freedom of their own race of critters to conduct those experiments with. If Gearbox had kept making HL games, I suppose we might have seen these threads develop. Since BlackOps are not a Gearbox creation per se, but an opportunistic use of existing real-life elements, I don't see how the idea of canon applies to them.
I wouldn't say that this says that they're not canon / never existed. Just that they don't matter a ****ing damn so everyone stop talking about them.

I must be one of the only people who actually kinda liked Xen. It just felt so odd. Traveling to the heart of evil, having Nihilanth whisper foreboding messages into my head...

Certainly wasn't the best part of the game, but it had its merits. I'd love to see a fully realized Xen world on the Source engine. Especially when considering the improvements made with Ep2. Unfortunately, this will likely never materialize sans the TC mod.

Well, if we don't ever see Adrian Shephard again, boy will that make me look dumb.

Haha, says the guy with it spelt wrong in his name...

I knew this was gonna come up, I spelt it wrong on purpose, because I don't honestly feel I'm worthy of the title, not to mention that I'm kinda' religous so it's kind of a play on words.

Besides I'd say there is a great number of people that make their name Gordon Freeman and the like (usually with a number) that usually remain in the forums long enough to become a manhack, if that (my apologies to anyone with this name that remained on the forums, specifically GordonFreeman911, who is the only one I can think of).

So the next time you insult the a person's spelling, make sure you know what they're trying to spell.

wait, what?

We now have even less idea what you were trying to spell.

Well in that case all they're doing is adding numbers to it because the SN Gordon Freeman would be so easy to come up with, especially on a HL fan site like this, someone's already used it, so what do you do? Add numbers, and extra characters and the like. But for you, it's spelled Adrian Shephard in the game. You may be "religous" but it's spelled the same, plus you're on a HL fan site... I believe I've made my point, yes?

Take care then, bye bye now.

Ah, no offence, but you crack me up. Shepherd is spelt with 2 h's, whether you're talking about the traditional spelling, or Gearbox's Shephard.

if i was to compare the advisor to anything i would say it looks alot more like a maggot or a short fat catapillar. nothing at all like a slug. and ive already had good luck in life, but thanks anyway.
