Advice on cost

Afternoon all.

Now, I really dont know too much about hardware and im not sure what I should be buying.

I will be buying a new computer (no monitor needed) as I dont think upgrading my old p3 is the answer.

So, I need everything including the best graphics card.

I was hoping one of you guys/girls could help me out with the best hardware and give me a estimate on the cost.

I dont have too much of a prob installing and placing it all together. I have a lot of sellotape.

And clearly, I want to run hl2 on max settings.

Im sure this has been posted before but its hard to search for a specific answer on this subject.

are you talking about the best of the best? if so go with a fx-55 system with a x800 xtpe or a 6800 u.. also grab about a gig of pc3200 ram

atleast upgrade to a pci-e mobo
amd 64 or s755 p4 prescot
with ddr2

i preffer intel because i dont think 64 bit gone be important for a while
not for gamming atleast.

the merchants listed there aren't always the most scrupulous. Be careful if you do end up using that site though.
