Okay well I was reading a post on here under the 'half life 2 episode 2' portion of the forum called 'strange face on the advisor' and on this post people said it looks like Eli and it is Eli. So it kind of got me thinking, what really happens when you get killed by an advisor? Do you really die?

I know this might seem odd and different, so forgive me if it does or if someone has already made a thread about this. But I'm really starting to think if you really die when an advisor attacks you, hear me out.

In our bodies, are brains control our thought process, well, instead of going into detail i'm just going to say our brains control a lot, and of course are heart and lungs help keep us alive. But lets jump back to the world of half life 2 and the advisors. When an advisor attacks you, he ejects this thing out from what seems to be his mouth, and pretty much eats your brain, which gives the advisor the knowledge of the victim, but heres where my 'theory' or 'thought' comes in..

I'm wondering if maybe people that are attacked by an advisor don't really die, maybe they are still alive in an sub conscious state inside the advisor. I mean, the advisor takes the victims brain, and it then becomes part of the advisor, but if the humans brain is now part of the advisor, it doesn't really still need the human heart and other functions to live, since the advisor would be keeping the brain alive, and there for, in a sense, the person alive, though all in all the advisor would be in complete control.

But what happens when we kill an advisor? Is there a chance that we can bring the victims back to life? Who knows.. In the world of half life, alot of crazy things can happen, so why not this? Maybe Eli isn't really gone forever..

I know this is really confusing, it was pretty hard for me to type up, but if you understand it the way I do and can make sense of it, tell me what you think.

Well, I'm not saying thats for sure what happens, and if thats what I implied I'm sorry, I'm just going off of the common thought that the advisor eats it's victims brain. But I'll see what I can find.

Common thought? I have only seen two people say that.

/facepalm.

How in the hell is that official info...

Eli won't come back end of. Valve pretty much confirmed this. The death of Eli was to show that the resistance is the not invincible and was suppose to have an emotional impact on players. Bringing Eli back shits all over that and ruins the ending of Episode 2. Just cause the Advisors suck out his brains doesn't means they get his knowledge, mybe the like the taste of human brain flesh. Another point is why would an Advisor wish to keep the Brain alive inside of it in an sub conscious state. What advantage is that to an Advisor?

I know you didnt say it was official info , im saying that its not official info , therefor it could all be bullshit , which some of it is.

Yeah, that I agree with, but there is some true info on there. Though the site itself and some of the information on it is no better then wikipedia. It's all user submitted.

Well, this is just my opinion. Nobody knows if the advisors have contact with humans, though I guess you could assume that when they're all hooked up to the computers or 'life support' that they can talk through the computer. But that brings me to this, if the advisor kept the victim in a sub conscious state, and all of what I'm saying is true, then it would give the advisors a way to communicate, if they could simply 'talk' through the victim, who has been lying dormant inside of the advisor [ in a sense ]. So I guess what I'm saying is they could use the victim, or human, whatever word you want to use, to do what they cannot. But who knows, I'm sure your right with them not bringing back Eli, but I'm not only talking about Eli, I'm talking about people in general. Although this thread is all just part of my curiousty. None of us will really know any of this information until episode three comes out, though if Valve said Eli is not coming back I'm sure it's true.

... What? You just contradicted your previous statements and said that they have not had contact with humans when they clearly have , several times.

Sorry I don't remember ever mentioning that they have verbal communication with humans, I forget that kind of stuff sometimes. Disregard part of that statement then.

The Advisor are incredibly intelligent, and i believe they can easily understand and communicate with humans just like Vortiguants. Meaning they can just adept to our speech naturally. No sub human conscious state needed. In the end of HL2 you see a Advisor communicating with Breen, so they have had contact with humans that we have seen. And looking at the video it wasn't communicating via another human. Also when the Advisor's removed the brain it got sucked out so the brain is squished up and damaged beyond repair even in the Half-Life universe it would be impossible to bring someone back. Unless they invent a method to restore blended brains.

Eli did say that if Mossman was found by the combine "They'll tear out everything she knows"
Besides it's a giant blood-sucking alien slug with telekinetic powers. Something that awesome should have brain-snatching capabilities

I believe they would just interogate her , besides , if valve wanted us to see they are absorbing the momories of the people they kill they would make it clear.

The brains dont get sucked out of the target, the intelligence gets sucked out along with the memories of that person. Knowing valve, they probably would have showed the acuall brain sliding through the adviosr tube to add to the evilness of the advisor, but since they dont, i dont think that the adviosrs do suck out the physicall brain, only the intel.

What if they just want to kill the person quickly?I mean, just tear his brain apart and he is dead in seconds.

There would be little reason i believe, for an adviser to consume the full mental capabilities of a victim - IF they indeed do consume something from the brain, be it matter or simply copying the data contained in it, I'm sure they can chose exactly what they wish to extract. With Eli, there is a wealth of important information that they could then have retrieved. His existence is not necessary any longer, when the information have been retrieved, so I believe him to dead. Period.

Even if it did consume peoples personalities, they would not magically be resurrected when the adviser dies. They would die as its braincells seize to function. Remember, Half-life is based on a scientific world, there's not room for fairy tales.

It may also simply have killed him quite effectively - there's no way that anyone can recover from the injury they inflicted on Eli. That they would be able to extract information from him, however, does pose an interesting strategical purpose. After all, why simply kill one of the few people on earth that knows as much? His knowledge should make them want to capture him alive, if they cannot retrieve that information through other means than interrogation.

Their advancement in technology, ability to learn communication, anatomy and the likes, would also fit with your scenario - simply find subjects with the information, retrieve it, and share it with the rest of the combine overlords. With such amazing knowledge gathering abilities, their technological advancement and strategical knowledge, would make them very dangerous, very quickly, to any opponent.

Hello staff, I would say I think the councilors are not the bad. GMAN its! The assessors are only I misunderstood. I think the councilors want only to help us move more quickly than they do on each planet, the way they have gunships and striders. The problem is that endures as a man, for some reason and how their parents. The combine is trying to use tough love to teach us a lesson on the move. I liked Eli Vance, but I can see why the Combine as he would't. I also think the GMAN tricked them into killing him.

Woah there! Don't use up all the exclamation and question marks on the internet.

I had a close look at their tongues, and it seems to me that they're solid muscle/sinew, rather than a tube, proboscis or secondary jaws. So I'm throwing my opinion in with the "They're not sucking knowledge out" lot.

Idea: Their tongues seem to be their only natural appendage. What if they simply like killing people "with their bare hands", rather than claws/telekinesis as it were?

they put their wiener in the bak ov ur head and suck. my guess is that ur dead mon.

I'm in agreement that they DO take your knowledge and information.

Eli did say that if Mossman was found by the combine "They'll tear out everything she knows"

Also after this, they mention how bad it would be if they got ahold of Eli himself. I think this is pretty big foreshadowing of the later events. I think the advisors specifically targeted Eli to gain his knowledge of the resistance and then some. And IF this is true, then that means that they know of the G-Man (if they didn't already) and possibly his position as Gordon's "employer". What this could lead to I have no idea.

Can anyone get a screenie of the Advisor killing Eli from a different angle? Preferably using noclip to take it?
