Well I just wanted to know if anyone had comparison shots of 8x af and 16x af.

I can't tell the difference!!

There is hardly any difference between 8 and 16x AF.
There is more of a difference going to 4x, although it still looks pretty good.
Going to 2x the textures start to become more blurred and then of course there is no AF. :)
I can get some pictures in a second.

1600x1200 4xAA
Bilinear
Trilinear
2xAF
4xAF
8xAF
16xAF

Look at the road ahead and in the building on the right.
This is a pretty good shot because the road curves up so you can see it better. Now jump from any of the shots 4x or higher down to Trilinear.

If this shot was near more buildings or in the tunnels you would notice the same effect on the titles in the walls all the way down.

From this it looks like 4x is probably the sweet spot in terms of performance vs. quality. Is this representative of all games, would you say?

Yeah, for the most part. 4x is probably the sweet spot although AF doesn't give that much of a performance hit. I like 8x best. :P

But if there are a lot of walls were you can see or read signs on the sides then more is better, for example racing games.

Thanks, your right. I knew there wasn't a big difference between 8x and 16x, it's just so mind boggling.. isn't it supposed to be double the quality? I just assume this because 8 x 2 = 16 and usually everything in computers upgrades in multiples of 2.

its easier to tell the difference between 8x and 16x when you are running at a resolution such as 1600x1200, and in the right conditions(long hallway) at lower resolutions, its not as noticeable
