Ok guys, here is the full page for the 45 minute speed run, where the author describes everything. Note that it is done in 21 segments, so it's much like a director doing multiple takes and choosing the best one, but in this case, it's the fastest.

He doesn't use any cheats at all, but he does exploit bugs and quirks in the game engine, such as using the laser tripmines as climbable steps, and using the powerry-uppy gun (the name escapes me at this point) to boost himself over and across large areas and reach normally inaccessible areas. By doing this he can skip entire areas that you would normally have to play.

I didn't really like the HL2 speed demo. It was pretty straight forward. The only part that amused me was when the guy grabbed a cylinder and put it on the water in front of the air boat (?) which then allowed him to take the air boat out of the 'garage' before the end of the scripted sequence. That was pretty cool.

One part that amused me in HL1 is how the guy uses the trip mines to climb onto higher places. Like that part at the beginning of "Power up", where you are supposed to kill a Gargantua. When I saw the guy carry a trip mine toward the wall in front of the railroad tracks that leads to the "On a rail" level, I thought he was going to blow it up, which I knew was impossible, but when he started using the trip mines to climb the wall I couldn't stop but wonder how come I never thought of that before...

Meh, I would pay for it. I have a hard time finding a game with detail that I like.

Besides, I like mysterious stories.

Is it me or the Aftermath forum is pretty dead? I guess most of us were expecting Aftermath to come out in December, as Valve had promised, but something in our gut told us it would be another year until we'd see Aftermath, and we didn't want to be right, but we were, so now we have to deal with the horrible truth...

What are people going to talk about? We have only a barebones idea of what the expansion will bring, a near concrete release date, a handful of screenshots and a very short teaser video. The Aftermath forum was never going to be a major discussion centre until the game shipped, and in the long run it'll be merged with the other HL2 forums as it's usefulness dies out.

Even if Valve promised anything of the kind, anyone who doesn't take what they say with a pinch of salt is being far too naive. Especially when such imprecise dates are waved around.
but something in our gut told us it would be another year until we'd see Aftermath
It seems all but certain that Valve are serious about April 24th. Four Months is not a year :p
and we didn't want to be right, but we were, so now we have to deal with the horrible truth...
OH NOES! THE WAITING HURTS MY EARS!

Cheap as hell, I checked the Futureshop site and it's supposed to be 14.99CAN, that's awesome.

Reading isn't one of your strong points, is it? That you correct someone for saying something they didn't say is hilariously outdone by the fact that you yourself are wrong anyway. Here's where you're going wrong:

1) The fact that you think Doom was first a Playstation game.
2) The fact that you think Doom was the first First Person Shooter ever made.

Speed runs use no cheats. They find things that are not supposed to be done in the game an capitalise on them. Why are you proclaiming "this cannot be done" when you clearly haven't watched the videos that prove it can?

It's supposedly $20: http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=99000&

Like Kupo said, you fail at reading correctly and  at Doom the first FPS made. Especially for Playstation.

Don't double post either.

Which was the first one?

It's open for debate which games can rightly be called FPS of course. All that is clear is that Doom is the weakest candidate for first FPS game. The most common candidate is Wolfenstein 3D, because it's probably the most FPS-like game there is. Other earlier games have the essential ingredients though. Like "3D Deathchase" which includes a first person view and shooting, but might be hard to term a "first person shooter" because of what we've come to associate with the term. There are even earlier examples, perhaps sometime in the 70s.

My first FPS was Halo :D

Back on topic, the price given is a very fair price, so if you want to complain go buy retail :)

OUUUUUUUUUUUUCH! :D

But pertaining to the forum title, cheap is more than fine for me.

It's not just you. The aftermath forum is pretty dead. Relative to the insane activity for half-life 2, it is dead!

6 hours of gameplay sounds a bit cruddy to me, it better be goddamn amazing gameplay or this forum will stay dead. If another delay happens which is almost inevitable we'll see it November 2006, 2 years wait for a 6 hour expansion pack? I'm not sure that's a financially viable option for valve. We'll see...

Yes, its pretty dead because there is nothing to talk about. Every other detail has been discussed to death, and therefore - nothing to discuss. Care to conjure some interesting topic?
See, Valve haven't poured details upon screens, screens upon trailers upon us chock full of gameplay spoilers. No, they have kept everything under wraps so that people don't piss and moan.

6 hours of gameplay is not crummy. It is episodic content. And for the record - almost all games now are able to be completed in like what, 8-7 hours? And this is episodic content were talking about.

Amazing or not, this forum won't be dead come release. If in dead you mean you not posting in it yeah, ok. See, there is a difference between a small episode and a fully blown sequel to arguably one of the best games of all time.

Haha, I'll hold you to that one. This is the first steps into a new line of gaming, of course things aren't going to be fasty fast.
