Age of Conan PVP beta weekend videos

but it depends on his combos and weapon ..it sounds like it was mostly the dual weilding combos ..this is in the pvp beta which explains a lot ..I've played the barbarian and up until lvl 25 most combos were right but if I switched to a dual handed weapon the combos wer emixed ..sounds like he was dual weilding

even then you cant really predict where your enemy is going to swing ..and it's not like he cant see where you've put your shileds anyways, you could easily adjust it during the fight

Oh, uh it was a leaker I read that from. Level 80 world pvp.
Could well have been a dual wielder.

but even then you'd be able to see where your opponent ut his shileds ..so if he's attacking from one side you could change it to the other but he would see that as well ..at least i think so as I havent played pvp yet ..despite being on a pvp server

Aye, but if the big damage is from that last hit of a combo...

not all combos are multiple hits some are magic spell + swing ..but we're talking about the barbarian which is all swinging ..the point being that if you know ahead of time whether the player is a barbarian and that he'll hit right more often than not and you adjust your shileds on the rigth side, you'd have to be an idiot to continue hitting on the right side, I'd just switch weapons :) or stick with the combos that arent on the right

What are you guys' plans for guilds and such? Myself, some RL friends and a handful of my old WoW guildies are planning on having a rather formidable guild right off the bat. If you live in North America and you plan on being a serious player, you're welcome to join us.

EU I'm afraid.
I'm going to play with some friends I used to play WoW with, however many I can get to come over. tbh they were the only reason I played as long as I did, awesome group of people.

I'll probably role on a RP-PvP server, for naming rules mainly (I assume they'll be stricter), so I don't have to see people called ConanpwnsDK, IamtehCromGR etc. spamming channels :P

If it doesn't get shite reviews, me and a friend of mine are planning on forming a mercenary group.

there is supposedly a mercenary system in game ..guilds hire you to help them seige another guild's battlekeep or even as a bounty hunter

CptStern: By active blocking I meant that, holding X down.

I kinda thought that the reason I wasn't blocking is because I had no shield, so as an assasin dual wielding daggers maybe the skill was useless to me. However, that guy's video(your 1st link) he has a shield and it also shows it having no effect, even though he holds it down like me.

I know you're under NDA so I won't ask you anything, but the build I played seemed to be broken in that sense.

Oh and also, you could not see player's shields in pvp aside from your own. They showed on NPCs on the SP part, and even on the arena matches, but not at all for players.

Is that intended or is it a bug?

You can't active block if you don't have stamina, could that be why?

I don't know, I honestly did not look at the time as they didn't explain any game mechanics at all to us prior to the beta so I wasn't all clear on what was what.

I'll still wait for the reviews since I do want a good MMO to get into, but I really wish I hadn't watched those videos because they look absolutely horrible. All those characters were the same guy in a cape running around not doing much of anything. I'm not just a confused MMO newbie either, I was one of those poor souls that gave up their life for a PvP rank back when WoW actually had them. And frankly, I'd rather play my 10,000th (edit: I actually might have already played 10,000, let's make it 30,000th) Warsong Gulch game in WoW than play what was showed in those videos.

you need a shield to do an active block ..if you hold down the control key you'll see your own shields (not physical ones) in yellow

here this explains it better than I do:

Part of the combat system in Age of Conan is the directional attacks, controlling every swing and strike, and working hand in hand with that is what we call the shield system. The shield system is simply a way of representing a lot of small things, like the guy who always tries to cover his right side or the monster that?s weak to frontal assaults.

Your enemy will focus their defense in certain areas, represented by a set of icons that surrounds them. The more of these icons that are on one side, the heavier his or her defense is on that side, and the less damage you will do when attacking that side.

Most importantly, players will also have access to the shield system and be able to tune their defenses according to their own tastes (and according to what they see you doing!), so mixing up your attacks and timing your combos to match defensive shifts will add yet another layer of strategy to player-versus-player

and active defense which is the use of physical shields:

Shields Up! ? Some classes have the options to use items like shields. While this will decrease your damage output, to a degree, it will also let you block and deflect incoming strikes, ensuring you last longer on the battlefield.

there's also dodge Feat which allows you to automatically dodge some attacks

I know you're under NDA so I won't ask you anything, but the build I played seemed to be broken in that sense.

from what I understand active blocking wasnt doing much ...also I havent played pvp so I'm not sure what they've implemented

that's one mini pvp game ..like capture the flag ..the main component of pvp is guild pvp where your guild builds a city and battelkeep and other guilds try to take your battlefield from your guild
