Hi!

I'm soon going to upgrade my computer with new mb, cpu, ram and cabinete.

Untill to day I have been going for a AGP mb. on wich I can use my old 9500 PRO, but it just came to my mind that pci-e is going to take over this year.

My question is: Should I buy a mb with pci-e AND a new gfx-card or should I go for a AGP mb on wich I can use my old gfx-card??

Asked in an other way: is the performance of the middle class pci-e gfx-cards so much better that I should spend more money and buy that, or should I buy AGP, use my old gfx-card and upgrade that part later on??

I'm rather confused about this. I don't want to upgrade to pci-e if it does not offer that much performance than agp-card...

If you are upgrading go for the new stuff. Id take PCI-E while im upgrading.
PCI-E is 16 times faster than APG x8 ( correct me if im wrong ) And its almost the same price as AGP motherboards today. And if you decide to go for PCI-E make sure you buy one with DDR2 :P

last i checked PCIe 16x mobos only allow for DDR2

its accutlly just 2x faster u must not know ur math very well and there a mobos with pci-e with amd and p4 slots but the amd ones dont have ddr2

PCI-E due to the fact it will dominate within sixteen months or less.

Only Intel uses DDR2 on their boards and there are boards with both DDR and DDR2 slots on them (can only use one type at a time). DDR is still the perfered solution although if you have a P4 then you may want to buy DDR2.

Well Pci Express 16x is still rather more twords it's early stages.

You wont notice an insane performance boost by switching to Pci Express x16 when comparing Pci Express 16x vs Agp 8x yet.

Though it is more future proof as next gen graphics cards will eventually require Pci Express x16.

Once games start taking advantage of SLI(2 gfx cards), and within the year Pci Express x16 will start to show and more and more performance boosts.

If it is tweedy... you can only have 1 agp port..Pci Express..you can have 2 ^_^.
Thus SLI.

If there are two graphics cards in an SLi setup, the speed per pci-express port is halved (shared between the two cards).
