You dropped a very subtle hint about "7 Hours" yesterday and since then I've been going nuts thinking about its possibilities!!!

I realize that you don't want to let the cat out of the bag just yet as to what it is and I respect and appreciate that! But I just wanted to let you know that you've got one person's interest piqued!!!

Looking forward to whatever it is! :bounce:

I think I might know what it's gonna be about :p What did Munro say though?

Oh I'm pretty sure I know what it's about too! :)

All Munro said was "All will be explained in 7 Hours" - pretty cryptic be enticing :)

I realize that it probably has to do with the "7 Hour War" but what is it - is it going to be a mod...or...oh gosh...an expansion?!? :)

It's his mod, and now I think it might be the 7 hours war that he is wanting to create?

I have totaly no idea whats going on. Anyone want to shed any light on what you guys are talking about .?

I'm pretty certain that Munro has some sort of inside information on the first HL2 expansion pack, which will apparently be entitled 'HL2: Seven Hours.'

Or maybe he's making his own mod? Has he done that sort of thing before? I don't know - but if he is I wish him the very best of luck! :)

In any event, let the rampant speculation commence!

hope they dont take ages to be released.. and hope theyre not seperate games and we have to pay

we'll have to pay i reckon, i think valve will try to get every penny they can from the HL universe from now on. and i dont mean that in an entirely negative way, but since playing HL2 my opinion of valve has changed a bit.

Perhaps its just munro failing to crack a joke. Geez people.

More Half Life story campaigns is all the better for us, too. I'll gladly pay for that good stuff :]

why? 6 mother****ing characters

Well - Valve has already said that certain things will be free - like the "ATi levels" (whatever that means).

I mean - I do expect to pay for full-fledged expansion packs, that's prefectly reasonable just as long as they throw me the occassional free thing now and then (which I'm sure they will) :)

Because i'm a little disappointed with HL2 tbh, it was very short and they cut such a huge amount of stuff from the game that i think some of it might well be rehashed into future expansions.

Like slufan says there are definately some levels which are going to released free, but any expansions will be charged for i would think. I just dont see valve as giving us any bonus material in future. I dunno maybe i'm wrong, and i really hope i am.

Hehe good old Munneh got you all on tenterhooks about this 7 Hour war eh ?

Although i have to say im not as knowledgable as most of you with Half Life storylines.... i never finished Half Life1 as i really only bought it for DM and mods. Im also only upto the buggy stage of HL2. Would someone be kind enough to enlighten me on the 7 hour war...

Key points id like to know are these:

What is Breens involvement with it ? How was HE able to surrender Earth to Combine Forces

Where did the Combine "invade" from ?

Is there some kind of connection between the combine getting to earth and the portal being opened to Xen ?

And also if you can...... where were the 1st signs of this invasion ? i understand there wa anotehrcity like City 17, just a few numbers back ?

Come on Wrafe, you know all those questions will be answered in 7 Hours :D

/me keeps everyone wondering

No one is really too sure about the events of the 7 Hour War but to answer some of your questions:

1) Breen must've seized power after Earth's forces were defeated and took it upon himself to surrender (how he got to that position in the first place is an open question).

2) No idea

3) My theory is that once the Xen portal opened, the Combine saw this as a chance to either attack Earth or were threatened by what they saw and decided to act preemptively.

I personally seriously doubt the combine 7 hour war was against the humans.

/me knows the truth.

It was - you should see the newspaper clippings in Eli's lab - they clearly state that Earth surrendered after a 7 hour war.

Wasn't that short - heck, on the hard difficulty "Route Kanal" took me over 3 hours to complete - and I'm only on "Water Hazard".

Besides, the average play time seems to be between 15 to 20 hours for most people I know - that's a fair amount by FPS standards.

Well from my understandings, Breen was/or may have been a scientist along Gordon Freeman, kleiner and Vance right ? I mean i have even seen the pic of the G man and the scientists in kelieners lab..... surely Vavle wouldnt **** with us that much ?

Also are Combine from anotehr dimension, like Xen or are they an Alien race. I think we need some more info and undertsnding on how the combine came to be and also how Breen came into the position to surrender Earth to the Combine.

From this i assume Breen isnt so much the head honcho of the Combine, merely an assistant to the Combine ?

Breen was the administrator of the Black Mesa facility so he was Gordon's boss.

As for your question as to where the Combine is from - no one knows, we can only speculate at this point (but it is fun, eh?) :)

Breen is the "human face" of the Combine occupation - he's like a guy by the name of Quisling who ruled Norway during WW2 but was a puppet of the Nazis.

I beat the game on hard in just over 10 hours, thats pretty short imo. I guess i was just expecting a lot more from a game that took 6 years to make.

Breen was the Administrator of Black Mesa. Now he seems to rule what's left of the human civilisation on Earth.

Interesting note: Did anyone notice that the Combine soldiers were being threatened with "Permanent Off-World Assignment" if they failed?

Are combine-ised humans being sent to bolster the Combine forces of other worlds, or does Breen have power over other worlds, too?

Remember that the G-Man stated that "we" are in control of Xen... maybe that's "Off-World"?

If you think all this suspense is bad, you want to try being on staff. It's like this, but over everything.

you lost me already

Ok thats a bit more explanatory, next question is why did the combine attack earth ? is it because theyre like Hitler and want to rule and dictate the world, or was it because of Xen. Is this some kind of 3 way war, but the human race has been dragged into it via Freeman opening he portal to Xen, thus the Combine have now intervened ?

Time to bring in the XM29 rifle again, this time it stays in the game, rather being cut :E

i think that since the combine obviously used the xen portal storm to invade earth, Breen was in a unique position to be diplomatic when they first arrived. Perhaps he did what he thought was right in an attempt to preserve the human race. E.G. he convinced them to modify humans instead of completely terraforming Earth to make it habitable to them.

Well, I noticed that the Combine soldiers were being threatened with "Permanent Off-World Assignment" if they failed, over the PA system in the game.

So is Breen in control of other worlds too, like Xen perhaps?

Or is he shipping trans-human soldiers off to fight for the Combine on other worlds?

It'll all be explained in 7 hours of game-time.

Get it?
