Ahhhhhh...Munro you're killing me!!!

You will play the mod and understand it, during the course of it's game-time which will be 7 hours. Game-time being the keyword, not play-time.

I was kidding, who said it was a mod ? theres clearly not enough information to be able to make a mod of the 7 hour war

Come on Wrafe, you know all those questions will be answered in 7 Hours :D

/me keeps everyone wondering

seriously Munro, my interest has gone up every time i have heard of this 7 hour war thing :p
don't disappoint ur fans now...give us something! :dork:

Come on! How 'bout a bit of info. :D More Half Life = AWESOME!

I'm guessing it probably took the combine 7 hours to take over earth. Which could be what the mod is about, or maybe the expansion they are soon to announce?

Also, City 17 is clearly not the only city like it.
There's got to be atleast 16 others, but people have expressed this opinion before.

so this mod will not include Freeman since he shows up after the war?

i wonder who you'll play as? human or alien?

Shepherd!

u know.. that would be so awesome!!! :)
i am kinda getting the feeling tho.. that Shepherd will be a character which gets lost somewhere along the way as far as Valve is concerned :( :(

You guys have to understand that Valve has no rights to Shepherd - he is property of Gearbox, not Valve :(

is this true?
someone wanna email Valve and confirm this?
if it is true...what use is this character to Gearbox when they are no longer involved with the HL series? :|

please tell me Shepherd is not the property of Gearbox.. :(

I would vote on being Barney. We need a BlueShift with him.....

Well, Blue Shift was made by Gearbox SFLUFAN, IIRC, so Barney Calhoun should be the property of Gearbox by that logic, but he turned up in HL2...

What is Breens involvement with it ? How was HE able to surrender Earth to Combine Forces

I figured Breen tried to sell out humanity in an attempt to save his own life, but ended up with an alien in his brain... it seemed like he was concerned about the host not surviving in the environment of the planet he was ordered to.

If you think all this suspense is bad, you want to try being on staff. It's like this, but over everything.

I'll be staff please. I can handle suspence with functional alcoholism.

barny was the guard in the original hl, not any of the addons, he sure wasnt the fat one

And Shepherd was just a name given to one of the multifarious Marines from HL, just as Barney was a named instance of one of the security guards from Half life. The name "Barney Calhoun" didn't turn up until BS.

Barney is obviously Valve's property, as he's in HL2.

If it's about a seven hour war... why would you want to play a game you know you'd lose?

Unless you get to be the combine :D

Right. And he technically first appeared in BS (I know that BS shows that he was the first security guard that Gordon sees, but until BS, the guard knocking on the door was just another security guard). Now, IIRC, BS was made by gearbox (weren't they originally making it for the Dreamcast version of HL?), so they, in effect, were the first to use the named character Barney Calhoun, who later turned up in HL2... so wouldn't Shepherd be the same?

Besides, it's not like Gearbox could use him outside the HL2 universe... he was created for VALVe, so I reckon they'd own the rights to him.

There's still a resistance though, some times surviving is enough of a victory.

Hey, maybe the player prevents it from being The War That Wiped Out The Human Race, then, eh?

Maybe there will be an expansion called "7 hour war".
Or a mod.

Ow and about sheppard and the expansion thing.
I found this in an interview.
AVault: Do you feel the potential to be freely creative within a previously established game universe exists? Provide some examples of how this might be possible in the add-on.

Pitchford: If Half-Life were any less of a game, the design limits would be constricting. However, the Valve team has done such a fine job it is more of a fun challenge to be able to operate within the universe creatively to expand it. The Op For design respects the foundation of the universe; it is being developed with the help of Valve. But we derive pleasure in enhancing Half-Life for the fans who can't get enough of the game and players who want other twists and angles the original Half-Life couldn't provide within its scope.
