Does anybody have experience in air and sound pollution? I want to know different ways to prevent them and how effective they are. Also, does anybody know if sound pollution in the states have been declining or going up? If you do, do you have the statistics for every few years or something?

Thanks for your help :)

Air and sound pollution are two very different subjects, I don't know why your teacher handed you such a wacky assignment.

both air and sound pollution are related to my one big project. we're planting trees and that prevents air and sound pollution.

For every tree you plant im going to chop 3 down :D

How exactly do trees prevent air pollution?

I dunno feath maybe since they release fresh oxygen when they do photosynthesis its probably woundinto that

When trees die, they release it all back...

The moral of the story is.

Make more paper!

How did you know it was a school assignment? LOL

What exactly is sound pollution...

What exactly is sound pollution...

sound pollution (aka noise pollution) is when there's too much sound

Main Entry: noise pollution
Pronunciation: 'noiz-
Function: noun
: environmental pollution consisting of annoying or harmful noise (as of automobiles or jet airplanes) called also sound pollution

Yeah but look up Pollution.
Damaging of the environment. I find it hard to believe that sound damages the environment...

Check and mate. :p

Environment = Space around you.

What do you think the air around you is? Do you hear things in your environment, or are you encapsulated in a noise proof bubble.

Noise pollution = U2

Haha...

But how is it damaging? Thanks for the lesson on sound, but you didn't answer the question...

Your ears aren't invincible ;)

Oh so now people are included in the environment.

And uh, couldn't I sue someone that causes severe damage to my ears?

I think this whole sound pollution thing is a big joke...

Well you would...your brain has been polluted :p

Edit: Pollution really isn't a joke; not even sound pollution. There are places where a very low frequency sound can be found, and that can have quite serious effects. Humans can't actually hear the sound, but they can sense it and not only will the sound physically affect them sometimes, it will also basically annoy them to no end. Its like a angging feeling you have throughout the day and night, but you can't stop it and you don't know what it is...the only way to get away from it is to, well, go somewhere else. Which unfortunately most people can't do and wont think of because they don't necessarily associate the problem with the area.

when a "concrete jungle" is built, plants decline so more carbon dioxide is released in the air :( , then we can wave Mr Ozone away with a :D

The ozone layer has precisely nothing to do with Carbon Dioxide emissions.

Sound pollution is a major problem. Most traffic noise is created from the air expelled from the tyre treads of a car as the wheels rotate and compress against the tarmac.

You've also got noise pollution from aircraft, from industry, from eejits playing music too loud, people mowing lawns, etc etc. They're all seemingly unimportant, but thats because in many instances the brain can filter them out, which is why its possible to fall asleep in a car or on an aircraft.

Long-term hearing impairment can be caused by excessive noise pollution. Noise pollution also affects the environment, certain species of birds have been known to mimic mobile telephone ringtones. Other species will undoubtely change their behaviour depending upon the level of noise in their environment.

Move out of the US, that'll do it.
Actually, the western US (aside from the crowded portions of California) have some of the least areas of sound pollution. We still have huge open ranges out here. :]

Anyone see that sound pollution study? People who still live in the jungle, those tribal guys, they have much better hearing in later years than us industrialized people. Of course, those people in the jungle don't even know that a report like this was done.

I was more referring to the air pollution.
