This place called Gander Mountain just opened up near me. My friend's brother just bought an airsoft pistol there. Airsoft seemed to be popular around these forums, so I thought I would go here and TALK about it. That is what forums are for, right? Right.

I had always thought Airsoft was something only crazy European people did. Crazy internet European people. I said to myself "Pff, do I really want to be a crazy European person?" And then I said "No. No I don't."

Then I stopped talking to myself because it was odd and there were people around. Internet people. Crazy internet people. Crazy, European internet people. YES I AM LOOKING AT YOU!!!!

(Can you guys tell how many cups of coffee I've had today yet?!?)

ANYWAY!

I want to buy an airsoft gun, and I want some advice on what kind to get. I don't really know how normal people play, since no one I know does. Also, I want to hear awesome stories about shooting out people's eyes.

We have been using the airsoft gun to shoot each other, and then laugh after complaining like bitches. We play a game of Mortal Kombat: Deception, where the loser of each match gets shot in the arm at point blank. Yeah, we are seriously hardcore. Next we will be walking to school on our own! YEAH!

Do comment.

First thing you should do before you start pissing around is find out about a mask, I was playing one time and a guy ran up to me pulled my mask off and shot me in the face!

Also what is the area like that you are going to play at?

Short recoil will probably be able to tell you more about what kind of gun to buy.

No Short Recoil is so hardcore he'll tell him to get machetes instead and amputate his friends in a dense humid jungle while wearing nothing but a sock on his penis.

I'll probably be playing in the woods. I was going to get glasses of some sort, but I was afraid about horrible things happening to my beautiful face. Maybe I will fashion a mask out of things that aren't expensive. Like duct tape and used toothpicks.

Some dude pulled off your mask and shot you in the face? Did you beat that bitch down, yo?

I can't wait until SR gets here. Oh. God. Yes.

Gander Mountain huh? Nice, I have one of those near me. I wanted to get into Airsoft, but I didn't want to buy one online. If they have them in the stores then I'll have to check that out. Thanks for the tip.

I hear they are cheap there, too, and they have quite the selection. I haven't been in yet, but it sounds pretty awesome. It was $25 for an automatic pistol, which seems to be pretty sweet to me.

Bad plan making a mask, get an official checked one, for example, the gun I have can shoot through both sides of a soda can, so imagine what will happen if you have some tape on your face...

If you play in a public place, expect to have a Swat team come shoot you or at least jam an Mp5 up your ass, not a fun experience.

Wow, just checked the prices there and at Dick's Sporting Goods. Extremely cheap. Almost too cheap. Does anyone know how these hold up compared to the ones that cost hundreds at online sites? I'm always skeptical of things this inexpensive.

The one my friend had was pretty awesome and reliable and stuff. I dunno too much about them, though.

It looks like some peoples posts have disappeard.

Well, what do you want? A Toyota? A Ferrari? A Mercedes? You've got to know what you want... regarding the brands... take Tokyo Marui or G&P for long guns* and TM, KSC/KWA, WA, Maruzen, Marushin, Tanaka or KJW for gas handguns.

*Don't get fooled by Classic Army, people walk around and go like "OMG OLOLOL THEIR FUL METAL OLOL GET THEM!!11" ...believe me, CA sucks...

(btw I thought airsoft is illegal in Australia?)

Sounds like you've had experience??

I was outside playing around with a new gun I bought (I was 12 or 13 at the time) showing it to my friends, shooting them in the legs etc,
when all of a sudden, one of those shit little ARVs turned up, and 2 police guys jumped out and shouted "put the weapon down!" "Put it down and step away!"

I was so shit scared the gun just fell from my hands, my friend started crying, then the police guys put me in the car and took me to the station, for 'A little chat'

That ****ed me up forever.

Is everything illegal in Austraila? I wouldn't know.

Well, I just wanted to know a general idea of what to stay away from and what to look for. I'ma buy one tomorrow, I think :D

And Shodan, that's a pretty screwed up story. What's with all these damn people screwin' with ya, man? :P

Yeah, sorry, I can just repeat what I heard, that's why I'm asking.

are you kidding? that's insane.

Well, because of this thread I just had to go to Dick's last night and get one. $47.95 for a gun and 1000 or so bbs. Cheaper than cheap. Pretty much a piece of crap though. It says it has a muzzle velocity of 260 fps. I don't really buy that because I had my roomate shoot me from across the living room and I didn't even really feel it. My shirt pretty much stopped it dead in it's tracks. When I play paintball I have to set my gun at around 300 fps and a shirt definitely isn't stopping one of those. I guess paintballs are about 100 times the mass though.

For anyone who plays quasi competitively, what kind of muzzle velocity are you allowed to use? What kind of distance do you get?

what kind of muzzle velocity are you allowed to use?

FPS: 250 GBB / 300 MP / 350 Automatic Rifles / 400 MG / 500 Semi-rifles / 600 Bolt action

Has got to do with realism, noone wants a MP5k to shoot more far than a G3... :upstare:

What kind of distance do you get?

I think noone shoots one another at less than 10m.

Realism is a bit off for a lot of guns range wise.
It's like a TM benelli m3 has the same range and power as an AEG (with 3 shots)
I like realism personally, only use standard mags rather than end up spraying with a hi cap e.t.c, some people play airsoft more like paintball however as fast fun, depends what you like.

Hehe, i remember a game with my friends where i waited in ambush perfectly still in a bush, 2 metres away in the face with my ak47 AEG, looked like he had bad acne the day after.

I got payed back when i was shot in the nose with a glock 34 with green gas though.

(we use just goggles rather than face mask that just protect the eyes, allows easier aiming, movement and communication, as long as you don't mind the facial pain)

Interesting. 600 fps, OUCH!! Mine is a horrible replica of an MP5, so I guess if it's really 260 fps it isn't too far off. I know you're from Germany, but just to clarify, FPS means feet per second to you as well? I wasn't sure due to the whole metric thing.

Another question. What mass are the bb's you use? IIRC there are a few different weights aren't there?

Good snipers use 0.43g bb's, gives a looping but VERY stable trajectory for precision if you know your gun well.

Standard bb weights to use for most guns would be 0.2g.

Yep. Due to the stupid laws here we're in contact with many many surrounding foreign players and thus have to use mostly the same units as other nations.

Hehe, usually you don't shoot people with such a monster within the range of 20m or so ;)

Many different weights, yes. I usually take Excel 0.23g BBs for everything. If you've got a uber-tuned sniper rifle, you're better off with 0,3g-0,5g of course ;)

Thanks for the replies. What kind of scenarios or games do you play? I wish I had more friends into it. I have to start hyping it up to people. It's kind of funny shooting them in my tiny apartment. WHAP, ding, ding, ding as they go bouncing off all the walls. 1v1 in my living room is definitely intense if nothing else. They go right through the plastic blinds I have over my windows.

Hmm... woodland/mil-sim mostly.

I'd love to play Mafia vs SWAT scenarios, since playing the mob you don't have any style-rules to follow :( (and I could use my chromed Desert Eagle :P) but the locations are hard to find, I'd need a storage or a bar or so :D

We used a massive ww2 fort without permision for a game overnight once, loads of rooms for tactical room clearing, gun positions for "blowing up" and a massive ditch with a bridge e.t.c..........oh and its on massive hill with loads of bushes e.t.c

Lol, we had a guy set up on the roof with a FAMAS as a support gun (bipod) with a massive 1,000,000 candle power lamp tied to it, covering the whole fort, massive battle.
was a good laugh!

AEG? Gas? Spring? Rifle? Submachine gun? Pistola? I need a base.

And first and for-most, get a good quality paintball mask, and ghillie-fy it.

Does it really hurt? How the hell dom you deal with cheating ? How can you tell when you got him ?

1. 200 or less, nah. Slight sting. 500 FPS+, you better bring some tweezers to dig it out.

2. Same as paintball. Except the marks are only black and blue. (Airsofters tend to be a little more rough on cheaters. You're caught cheating once, you're gone from the field forever, no exceptions.)

3. He'll call himself out.

So this game is based on honesty.
Which might suck if you are playing with people you don't know, eh? Lots of people suck.

But this is exactly what I made the thread for. :D I'ma buy something real soon, and I have a bunch of friends who want to buy some guns, too, now. Hoorah!

thats how we started, soon everyone jumped on the airsoft bandwagon, now we play with like 15 friends and own over 20 guns

What's with airsoft? For the price of some of those plastic pellet guns you could get some real guns. A romanian AK47 only goes for about $330 here in the states. MUCH MUCH more satisfying when you pull the trigger. I've got an Rock River Arms M4, Romanian AK, Bulgarian AK, Saiga 12 Shottie, HK91 clone, couple of .22's, a yugo 8mm mauser, and like 5 pistols. I don't see how an inaccurate plastic pellet shooter could compare. I'm going to the range first thing in the morning to do some plinking for a good 3 hrs. I guess ammo is a little expensive. I'm taking out 250rds 9mm, 300rds 5.56, 300rds 7.62X39, 100rds 7.62X51, and a crapload of .22lr. That's about $140 worth of pure happiness that'll last a couple of hours. Usually I don't take so much but I'm taking a couple of friends and providing all the ammo.

Sorry for being an ass, but I must ask a question? Exactly how far does an Airsoft "ubertuned Sniper Rifle" reach out and touch someone? I used to have a Remington 700 PSS .308 but I wasn't very good. It's a 1000 meter gun but I was really only good on paper out to about 500 meters.

SIGbastard, you may live in a country where you actually can purchase firearms like that, a lot of other people, including me, don't. So much for that.

Plus, I'm pretty sure you can't go out and shoot up some friends with your real firearms. It's a game you play with others. Like going to the shooting range with your friends and competing.

Exactly how far does an Airsoft "ubertuned Sniper Rifle" reach out and touch someone?

Hm, 50-60m maximum.

Recoil, yes, they are illegal in AUS. I do have a friend however with a deagle (Not sure if it's airsoft, but rather similar.) and an AK (No brand)

The deagle pwns but the AK is extremely innacurate, we can get some quality guns from Bali for about $5! :D

Ok :) we've got strict 'rules' by law, too, but it's possible.

Btw, I saw a photo of an Australian army-man posing for some equipment, but he had a Airsoft AUG ;)
