In all honesty, the death of Zarqawi is in and of itself a good thing. The consequences of his death? That's another matter. Wether this dissuades or emboldens those who were inspired by him or under his control is to come. But I predict that things will continue as they already are with no visible change.
I would have preferred him to be taken alive. To stand trial for his actions and have justice metered out in a court of law, hopefully ending up locked away for life. Martyrdom wouldn't be such an issue in that case. But you can't really pick and choose these kind of things, and a dead Zarqawi is better than nothing.
Also, although I obviously don't know all the details yet, I reckon the statement about al Qaeda members tipping him off is a load. Probably just some psychological stunt to make them look at their fellow jihadists with a paranoid eye.
