Alan Wake Trailer IS HERE!

Oh man, I almost had a heart attack. I didnt read the third word of the title, and I got so damn excited.

This isnt as exciting, but interesting anyways.

Dang, so did I. I think the word "trailer" should be caps'd.

So is the game still a Vista exclusive or what?

Should be interesting. Damn, it's been a while since anything new on that has been released.

Is it still a silly Vista exclusive?

EDIT: Seems like it still is. Well, Remedy doesn't want the money of PC gamers.

Will they show us some actual gameplay this time? Because I seriously have no idea what this game is supposed to be. There's this guy in the Pacific Northwest whose horror stories are coming true, cool. But what does he do? Does he shoot things? Solve puzzles? Is it a collection of horror themed party games? We really don't know jack shit about this game.

There was a video somewhere that showed the developers control the character. From the looks of things it will be free-roaming.

At one point you were chased by a tornado that proceeded to rip through a water tower

AFAIK it was Microsoft Game Studios that forced the decision to be Vista-exclusive through after they became the publisher for Alan Wake.

That is what my impression was too. However, I bet something will change about that for the title's release. I also think if (like the devs said) the 360 version will be identical to the PC version in every single way, then there is no reason other than pure greed (in this case for OS marketshare as opposed to dollars) that is driving this decision. Time will tell.

Well, can't wait to see what they've done with it after all this time.

Indeed. Valve's survey shows 15% Vista and 81% XP gamers. That survey is surely outdated and it doesn't include the whole scene, but it is a matter of fact that going Vista-only means a lot of lost sales. Microsoft is clearly covering that losses with a big cheque.
This is the difference between developers who care about pc gamers, like Valve does, and others that follow the lonely path towards politically driven Vista exclusives. Remedy has lost my respect.

What is Alan Wake? And don't jump on me goddamnit!

I'm sold.

If they still keep it Vista exclusive, they're retarded.

The Vista exclusive phase of gaming has come and gone and it did poorly, iirc.

Sounds good, cant wait to see the progress.

I'm still interested in this, but like a lot of games that seemed great years before they were complete, I can't help but feel that Alan Wake might have missed its opportunity.

I'm still really interested in this game. The trailer which shows Alan running towards the lighthouse with the hooded figures closing in behind still spooks me out more than any other trailer has before.

Nice new screen.

I really don't think so, judging from the above screen the graphics are just amazing

Is that John Candy in the background? Remedy, or Alan, has brought him back to life :D

Its nice to see that their relationship with Rockstar is still present

I'm sure that Remedy decided to make it Vista exclusive to take advantage of DX10 and DX11.

If you have a legacy rendering pipeline that was built using DX9 principles, and then tried to plug in DX10, it doesn't provide all of the enhancements and big changes in the pipeline.

However, if you, from the beginning, plan for DX10/DX11 graphics pipeline, that is when you get the better performance (and also all of the extra features that DX10/DX11 provides beyond DX9).

If Remedy has it Vista-exclusive but is using DX9, then that is indeed a shame, as the only thing that would make them stay there would be they don't have a lot of testing resources (it's hard enough doing hardware checking, let alone doing it on two different OS' each with various service packs).

That, or their code is using some Win32 API functions that aren't available in XP, and probably don't want to **** with that low-level code now.

Is it just me or does the protagonist of the game look like John Stamos?

I thought he looked familiar, though I don't exactly know who John Stamos is... 'chariots of fire' or someshit?

When I opened this thread the commercial for Max Payne came on, also, what's Alan Wake?

In their defence wasn't the decition made before Vista's release? No one could have expected Vista to bomb as badly as it did.

I hope so. I'd like to see a game take proper advantage of Dx10 rather than gimmicky support that offers little real improvement (Bioshock, Crysis).

In my opinion the decision was imposed to Remedy by Microsoft for marketing reasons. They have an XB360 version in the making, why in the world aren't they able to bring the game on XP? Should be a trivial port. It was Valve saying that PC<->XB360 porting is like "pressing a button", right? No guys, we are talking about Microsoft, no doubt about it.
So Vista did bomb badly, that's a statistical fact. Remedy can still fix their wrong decision, but are they legally able to do so if Microsoft has already paid for the exclusive?
From pissed off XP gamers I expect a boycotting campaign a la Spore with 1-star reviews on Amazon ;)

Sure, and Halo 2 on PC (Vista exclusive) was far more advanced than its XBOX (the first one) counterpart... :)
We have Crysis and Far Cry 2 on XP, and we cannot have Alan Wake? Come on.

They didnt design Halo 2 from the ground up to be DX10. Plus there are a myriad of other reasons why the game sucked, most of it not relating to being vista only.

If you think Crysis and FC2 are good examples of what a DX10 game can do, then you're wrong.

And neither they did with Alan Wake. I don't remember XB360 being a DX10 machine, am I wrong? Do you *really* think that the Vista exclusive is for technical reasons? I can't believe it.
