Exactly what I thought.

I was never chewed out very much by my parents, but I was generally a good kid. On occasion it could happen, and it wasn't as bad as this.

But if I were a spoiled little brat? Yea, you could bet it would as bad as this if not worse. I am sure she deserves this; Baldwin probably made a mistake by buying her everything she ever wanted, and now he's trying to correct his mistakes. I can't think of a better way to do it.
 
Divorce and child custody isn't exactly a laughing matter, and I can imagine he's probably been through a lot of shit over it.

We don't exactly know what the deal is with her and her mother.
 
I think he had more then enough reason to say what he said. He probably went easy on the kid.

From the article, her/her lawyers put this out. So like many stupid b*tches, she decided to make it everyone else's business. One can only imagine the lines of BS that that lady is feeding that kid about her father. Not saying he's a saint in the matter as I don't know or don't care. But usually when things get dragged out like this, the two sides aren't getting along.

and yes it is our business because it's out in the open ..you cant simply ignore it now that it's been made public, any criticism he recieves is warrented: he's a poor parent regardless of whether we know the full context of the conversation ..there is never a reason to call your child retarded

Eh, that voicemail was over the top. Totally unnecessary. But Basinger isn't a saint when she turns it into a publicity stunt.

Seeing as how I know nothing about either Alec or his daughter's personal lives, I can't judge too far. The message was obscene, but I can recall a few times in my life where my father berated the shit out of me, and in many of those cases, I was being a dipshit. Not saying it's justified, but I can understand how this can come up, especially after a long period of strain.

He's human. He ****ed up. What matters is how he progresses from this point forward with his daughter.
 
My dads talked to me like that before (even at age 11 on rare occasions), but that was because I was a little idiot sometimes. Hes been a great father to me.

I wouldn't judge Baldwin based on this single snippet of his outrage to some "phone incident" that we honestly have no idea about.
 
but this isnt like any other case of a parent berating a child ..potentially the entire media conscious world knows about this ..it's far more damaging than if it had happened to any one of us. the poor girl was humilated by her father ..once it because public so did her humilation


I cant think of my parents ever calling me retarded or a fat pig (I'm not fat but so isnt Baldwin's daughter) ..my dad wouldnt hesitate to beat me if the need should arise but he never once made me feel that I was worthless


ffs people stop justifying your own parents being verbally abusive ..it's never alright to verbally abuse a child ..the simple test to see if it's acceptable or not is to ask yourself if you would verbally abuse your child in the same way Baldwin has ..my answer is an emphatic no, never, it's the last thing I'd do ..ok corporal punishment is the last thing I'd do .

And by the way, Stern, he never called her a fat pig. (Then again I am basing this off the clip I heard on TV, I haven't actually heard the clip in this thread. *Flees!*)
 
ok I may have ad libbed the fat part ..but I was recalling from memory ...anyways this is a big deal as a court has suspended his visitations rights based on the phone call

I doubt it was just the cell phone thing that pissed him off. Most arguments build up over a bunch of insults, misbehavior and general douchebaggery. Its quite likely that she was pissed at him for something, then provoked it out of him so that she could make it public and savor in his humiliation.

Sadly, this is common human behavior. Perhaps you're above this Stern (although I have a hard time believing you never yelled at and insulted anyone before), but 99% of the world population gets angry. What happens when you get angry? You cuss people out. Doesnt matter who, doesnt matter why, you are just pissed off. The most important thing to know is that people pretty much never mean what they say when in a pissed off rage. He probably apologized or at least felt sorry for it afterwards.

while I'm hardly immune to hurling insults I can assure you that not once have I ever said anything even remotely similiar to my kids ..I've yet to even raise my voice ..again this isnt some random person on the street he's freakin on, it's his 11 yr old daughter

My parents didn't even care if I came home at night, but even by my standard this was a pretty tame voicemail. The girl obviously needs to learn respect for her father. The divorce is likely harder on him than the females.

This instance and the ensuing action of recinding his visitation rights does nothing but further the sissification of America and give power to the corrupt, in this case the ex-wife and her prodigy.

What I meant by not caring if I came home, is I had complete freedom to do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted.

I also lived on a military base so that might have something to do with it.
 
So how do you talk to an 11 year old?

Not saying I would insult a kid either but kids can piss parents off. They have plenty of right to off load pent up steam.

look if my kid was laughing and running away from me while I try to get him changed ...does he deserve verbal abuse or even yellling? that doesnt solve the problem it just adds to it ..in fact you the parent are acting out not the child ..for all you know the child doesnt interpret you being frustrated all he knows is that if he does so and so his parent will react ...this extends throughout the kid's life ..berating someone will just give them little self-esteem and kill their trust for the parent in question ..Baldwin is a grown up man, who doesnt have to worry about his kid's education or whether he can afford to pay the mortgage or feed his kids ..he has it easy in comparison to a lot of parents ..and on top of that he doesnt even have custody ..you'd think he'd be able to restrain himself once a week or whatever his visitation rights are ..he has no excuse, frustration, stress is no excuse for poor parenting
 
So..what exactly is it she did? Because seriously she probably deserved it because apparently from the clip, whatever it she did shes done a bunch of times before. Hell compared to some of the shit my parents have said to me, or stuff I've heard my friends parents say she got off easy.

That whole clip can be summarized into "OH MY GOD YOU JUST WAIT MISSY, UNTIL I FLY OVER THERE AND JUST ****ING STRAIGHTEN YOU OUT. YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG IM GOING TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT HOW DISAPOINTED I AM. RAAWR".
