Vote if you would like alien grunts from HL1 to return either in aftermath or in HL3.

I doubt they'd fit the theme very well. They were good, but that's because of the environment.

True but they were one of my favourite HL1 enemies. Maybe you could go to xen and fight lots in another game.

We won't be seeing them again because they were manufactured on Xen and when you took down Nihalinth you took down his race, therefore no more grunt manufacturing.

There were quite a few left after you killed Nihilanth, actually. Ignore the G-Man's request at the end of HL1 - there are hundreds of the buggers waiting to get their revenge on you.

i dont think they should bring back the alien grunts because they're lame and unoriginal. they look like something i would doodle on paper when i was 5. and like mentioned before, they don't fit in anywhere and it would be rediculous if they just suddenly came back for no reason. :D how bout bringing out some of those new enemies that they were going to have but didnt, like the creamators, the hydra, and the prowlers? those ones are a million times better than the smelly alien grunts

Think how badly Alien Grunts are full of AWESOME! They were brilliant enemies.
They just don't fit the setting of HL2, nor the current storyline. Xen's military was crippled with Nihilanth's death, so they're not really going to coordinate an assault on the Combine - the Combine kinda outnumber the Xenian remenants by 1000/1.

-Angry Lawyer

Maybe the Alien Grunts on Earth after Nihilanth's death joined the Vortigaunts? It's a possibility that there would be a couple of them roaming around with the resistance...that is, if the Grunts were under a "mind control" thing like the vorts. >_>

Doubt they would, they seem pretty much born and bred with the idea of killing on their mind, which is likely why they weren't clapped in chains. They're likely bred with a knowledge of what's a friend, and the idea to kill everything else that moves.

It would be wonderful if the grunts were in HL2, because they don't fit it, they would catch you completely by surprise.

i hated how those stupid manta ray planes woul drop them off too

they kinda reminded me of popsicles for some reason

im gonna go buy some popsicles

Do u know that the grunts from HL1 were 1/2 combine and 1/2 vortigaunt. They were the equivalent of combine soldiers on earth just in xen. It says in the HL2 guide. It also says in the blue-shift guide that they were 1/2 vortigaunt. Ninilath is the equivalent of Breen ( the constant talking is a large hint).

It doesn't say in the hl2 guide. Not fact.

*Explodes in a fit of rage*

Show me what official source says those things.

Man, in my angst, I've gone and stuck Grunts in my mod. I'm going to have to record a video of them smashing Combine face, just to further hammer home how badly they don't like the Combine.

If it really was 1/2 combine, and 1/2 vortigaunt, wouldn't that mean that it was just a big slug with electricity?

just because the nihilanth died doesn't mean that all of the alien grunts that got teleported to earth suddenly went "poof" and turned into expanding clouds of confetti and candy.

I think i'd be interested to see some of them sort of living in the wastes, like big angry bee shooting trolls or soemthing

Assuming that with the Death of Nihilanth, they became roaming warriors, they were probably hunted by the military. From what I can tell, humanity beat Xen. But in the time after, fled to cities to escape Earth's growing wasteland. Then too boot, the Combine invaded.

Chances if any were in the wilds, the wasteland creatures got them. They were from what I could tell, modified vorts. Hence a factory to make them. They had the same eyes, and the third arm. They were just simply mutated.

The military did not go to xen.

The military probably finished off any grunts remaining on Earth, though. That, and starvation. I read somewhere official (I think) that the Grunt armour is actually extruded from their bodies, like a carapace, and it's made from exotic minerals found on Xen. A diet without these minerals would cause them to starve.

Or something.

It's grown on to them, which is what distinguises Combine tech from Xenian tech. Xenian tech is mostly organic. Combine tech is mostly mechanical.

-Angry Lawyer

The only way I think we'll see them again is if we go back to Xen and attempt to "grow" them again, to amass an army powerful enough to take on the Combine homeworld. I'm sure someone like Eli or Kliener would be able to incorporate technologies to make them loyal to the resistance. If they could make a robot like DOG, then this wouldn't be too difficult.

Nah, you'd probably get eaten by the Xenians beforehand. The Controllers are likely still pissed at Gordon for the destruction of Nihilanth.

Agreed, don't pass of friggin' theories as fact!

Given how much time has passed since then, wouldn't the Controllers be huge as Nihilanth by now? Just think of what the ramifications would be if they ever escaped to Earth looking for revenge. :O

I think it'd take longer than 10 years to rebuild their entire civilisation. And I doubt they'd want to fight the Combine head-on in such a way.

Oh, and as further proof that the Grunts aren't all that keen on the Combine...

(Yeah, that's a very early build of my mod)

You'll have to smooth up the grunt or turn down the detail on the soldier, they don't look good together

I know. I've been focusing on things that aren't models right now.

Just had to show a Grunt punching a Combine soldier. Sadly, I took it a moment too soon - the very text frame shows the Soldier flying about ten feet after a gut punch.

Can you do it again, for me and him-> :imu:

Well, someone needed to get punched, and due to the content of the thread, I thought it might as well be a Combine soldier.

-Angry Lawyer

This is all that comes up for me.
I think you've broken the law by taking the alien grunt from HL and put it in your mod. Funny after you're speaches on the Red Dwarf and Deus Ex mod threads.

Well, it's not in a released build, so it's legit. And I've sent off an E-Mail to Valve asking on the legality of it. If they say yes, he stays in. If they say no, he gets cut and I'll reuse the code on something new.

Ifyou can't see the punch, copy and paste the link into a new browser window.

-Angry Lawyer

Too funny.
It's an RTS right? playing an RTS with HL2 graphic and ragdoll physics will probably make my PC explode, but it'll be worth it.
