All right, sweethearts, what are you waiting for? Breakfast in bed? Another glorious day in the corps! A day in the Marine Corps is like a day on the farm. Every meal's a banquet! Every paycheck a fortune! Every formation a parade! I love the corps! It's the wonderful UT mod Alien Swarm on Source, and it's an heavy-tactics action-packed shit-a-brick bug hunt through torturous corridors packed with chitinous nasties who are all teeth and claws. You would do well to remember: short, controlled bursts.[br]

[br]Alien Swarm will be available as a free modification for HL2 owners and as an expanded standalone retail version. I am the ultimate badass! We're on an express elevator to hell - going down! There's some juicy colonist daughters we have to rescue from their virginity. They're coming outta the goddamn walls! You're dog meat, pal! I like to keep this handy - for close encounters. Marines, we are leaving! They can bill me. Game over man... Game over!

Click here to find out more. Warning: I don't think it likes IE.

I've spent some time on Blackcatgames forums, there is some top notch people making this. I've played the UT2k4 version, it's an excellent game, and I'm severely looking foward to this.

<3 Aliens quote.

Certainly looks pretty, haven't played the UT version so I can't judge gameplay.

reminds me a lot of a game TEAM 17 was working on for a bit, called ALIEN BREED 2000, the game was meant to be (never came out) a follow up to the original alien breed game from 1990 something. Anyway that game looks like it a lot, top down etc etc, should be fun.

I'm willing to bet this media update was brought around by their mention in that Garry's Mod article. Anyway, this is looking pretty good.

ahaha, sulkdodds you're just genius.

this mod is looking great, palyed the UT2004 version and it was fun as hell

I would take you up on that, but I don't trust the internet for sending money so you get to keep your cash. We got an email, as we often do. :p

Wait waiiiiiit... Is this a mod for Source now... or is it like Red Orchestra? They're using the Unreal engine for it?

Either way, I loved it on UT2004... my only gripes were that the players were elitist assholes, not very friendly to newbies... and too many controls for such a simple game.

Ah, this should be interesting.
After rewatching Aliens... I'm dying to play squad-based games where you fend off hordes of creatures.

I just bought Aliens vs. Predator Gold Edition again... forgot that it doesn't like XP very well x.x

I remember the original Alien Breed games. They were the first videogames to ever truly frighten me.
Multiplayer was classic. Me and my brother, sitting at the Amiga with a pair of joysticks, trying to escape the place before the bomb goes off. Christ, frightening stuff.

It's great fun, too bad the ut2k4 version is a total frag fest. And, like any other co-op game, 90% of the time you'll be stuck with 11 year olds that still think it's a DM, trying to rack up the most points. It's too fast paced, but still a very fun game.

Top-down coop games work best when your team-mate is sitting next to you.

Ingame screens look very very cool, nice lighting!
One small crit on the truck model, I know tires are hard to make the flow seamless, but adding a black border all around just is sloppy imHo :)
Thats my only very small crit. The game reminds me of that Crimson? flash game a while back (don't remember the exact name of it anymore) Only this looks 1000x better :)

Looks really fun, hope its more tactical than arcadie.

It's interesting to see that they don't have shadows either... wonder when valve will get around to fixing that (bitter much?)

The 2k4 version is awesome over a lan, I hope the source version exceeds it (though maybe drop the difficulty level in the earlier stages) :D

I'm really surprised no one has mentioned this earlier...

It seems that we have a failiure to read here.

NS and Alien Swarm are both incredibly different mods.
The only likeness is they're both marines against aliens.

NS = RTSS(Real Time Strategy Shooter)
AS = over-heard view shooter(ala Alien Breed)

But if you want it *now* and you have UT2004... Knock yourself out.... might I suggest, Chaos... watch the video... and THEN tell me that NS is Alien Swarm on the HL engine.

Yeah, it's pretty silly that people are comparing this with NS beyond a 'Stay frosty, marines! Short controlled bursts!' perspective. NS = big team game with resources and building and a commander. AS = four players advancing tactically through twisting corridors and blowing shit up.

Look at the players, in the first, they have blob shadows, in the others, no shadows... Now go play nearly any other Source Mod, note the lack of high shadows in DX9... :p

Ah I see what you're saying.

Well, I've hung around blackcatgames forums to read that the game is hardly near finished... I'm not even sure they've hit the half way benchmark.
