Alien Versus Predator

I hear its gonna be terrible, and if it is, then the planned new Alien and the new Predator movies wont be getting made. So I hope for that guys sake his movie breaks records.

I hope it does well and if they do a sequal it isnt set in the most inhospitable place on the planet.

How can you say that? It's not even out yet!
Cause I know guys who've seen previews (a cobbled together film borrowing bits from all the other films and throwing them together) the storyline? apparantly bites, and its come from Ridley Scott that if AvP doesn't make a ton of profit, fox wont bother with an Alien 5 or Predator 3, which will be a shame cause there would have been a very good chance he'd have produced the next Alien film, and a slight chance he might have Directed it. Fox have said the same thing, there's a lot riding on AvP, alas since its allegedly aimed more to the younger ones, it'll probably be tame too, which means if it is then a success, we can expect to see Saturday morning alien and predator cartoons doing the round on Nickelodeon :\

So far the likelyhood from inside the studios is AvP has a very high chance of f*cking everything up. I am so glad I'm not the guy doing it cause the hardcore fans are not nice people to mess with (their like Star Wars fanatics, dress up in the gear n stuff). Supposedly the Alien itself has had some changes made to it, some kind of camoflage, coloring to its body. The Predator has had a number of changes made to it, and also made more "human", basically the god awful dark horse comic book series'. Chances are its gonna be one of those films that the real fans end up exluding from the others.

So thats how I can say that, believe me I pray to god it doesn't fail. Two great movie badguys ruined with one film. It didn't matter with Freddy vs Jason cause they'd had their day after their first movies, but losing Aliens and Predators, forever damaging them beyond hope. It's a big deal. :(

It is. I would expect a new game to come out of this, though. :D

yeah a new game, except it to be a typical movie licence though, quickly done by some twobit company and probably with console's in mind. So don't expect too much with that :)

You have no idea how much I hate consoles. Stole my Starcraft: Ghost.

Telling the origin of a respected corporation (Weyland-Yutani) on a crossover movie does not seems like a good idea to me....if the spoilers are rite, of course :)

well if Alien 5 (alien hive?) gives away the story behind the Aliens themselves, then its byebye a once great film. I worry about that more than I worry about AvP. Cause Ridley Scott's version does infact have some hints to what they were, and he's been said before to have mentioned they are a biological weapon of alien origin. Personally it just ruins a film by explaining anything.

Alien was the undesputed classic because it left you with so many questions. Will never be surpassed. Probably not by Ridley Scott himself either.

Aliens - didn't step on any toes and still left you guessing

Alien3 - just messed up period, nobody has yet been able to explain how it could have happened. eggs in medical bay my ass.

Alien Ressurection - did its best to repair the damage but still dropped the ball

Predator - great movie

Predator 2, fun, but bad acting and could have been much better

AvP - some guy has an idea, tells everyone about it, thinks CG will make it great, ring any bells here? thats it, you guessed it, the guy making AvP sounds just like the typical wannabe mod maker.

Alien 5 - hopefully fixes the problems AvP will inevitably cause. But will probably end up answering too many questions, and will likely be the last one ever

Predator 3 - expect Predator to go the Robocop route if AvP is a success, thats TV-movies, a short lived TV series and forgettable storylines that screw with the entire premise until there's nothing left of the original

Dead Reckoning - George A. Romero comes along and shows these newbie film makers how to make a real horror movie. Hollywood gives up, Type E Zombies take over the world

The End

Nnghhhh..

The "Making of Monsters" trailer looks great, but if what Fenric says is true.. May god have mercy on us all..

I can't stand Hollywood peeps ruining the best moviemonsters ever just for profit and kids and all.. What Fenric said about the makers wanting to make it softer and more goodie-goodie just to make it more appealing to children made me lost my faith instantly with this movie.

And I'd like to quote Edgar Allan Poe: "The strongest feeling of all is fear, and the most primitive and strongest form of fear is fear for the unknown."

I don't want an explanation about the Aliens nor the Predator. I don't want to know where the hell they came from, what the hell they really are, where the eyes on the alien exactly are if it even has eyes, NADA! I just want to get scared like hell/be really excited while watching a good Alien/Predator-movie, because what is the most frightening thing about them is because you know practically nothing about them.

Hans Rudi Giger's Alien is the best design on a monster ever. Deadly. Swift. Beatiful, simply.

The Predator is the most badass design on a monster ever. Awesome. Cool. All the gadgets and everything..

I hate how business with movies work today.

Well... I liked the comics and novels.

I think revelations about established characters/creatures/conventions are always interesting...

I certainly hope the movie doesn't suck, though... it'd be good it they based it on the novels, with Machiko Nogouchi and Broken Tusk...

I'm hoping EXACTLY the opposite, dark horse do comics (and not very well mind) and should stay the hell away from movies, they haven't a damn clue what their doing, its action action action and no plot or depth of character. It's all just setup for kids, go down their route and suddenly the aliens are on TV just after Tellietubbies in their new prime childrens slot for under fives.

Hell, even Sigourney Weaver isn't looking forward to this Film as she so stated in the Alien Quadrilogy pack. (which I so happily posess) I don't see this Film being a hit in anyway, will be a terrible cashin.

Well... I don't think Aliens or Predator would do well as a kids cartoon... gore is a major factor in both...

An anime would be interesting, though probably short lived.

I like the background info introduced in the novels. Predators have a highly honour-based and martial culture (resembling Japanese culture in some respects), they call themselves the Yautja, they breed Aliens for hunting, they regard humans as the best "Soft Meat" prey (Aliens are "Hard Meat"), they respect the way humans operate (Weak and soft, but with a deadly sting in the tail), the greatest honour in their culture is to Hunt a murderer, the Pred Females are much bigger and smarter than the males, and they have taboos against harming unarmed creatures, pregnant females, and children.

Aliens... not much revealed about them, apart from facets of their biology (They're partially silicon-based, and the semitransparent bulge that runs along the top of their heads hides a sophisticated biological telepathy device, which allows the queen to loosely command the drones and warriors at long range, pheromones being used closer up.) and the fact that the strange race known as the "Space Jockeys" hate their goopy guts...

/me reads what Brian just wrote...

It's that stuff thats exactly why its a bad idea. ill thought out reasons behind stuff. The Aliens are alien. The company in the films supposedly knows a little about them, but the public, and the viewer, should never know. As for the predator background, that stuff is just terrible

I can't even bare to go on, its so bad it doesn't even deserve a reply :(

Yeah but you know that a cartoon would end up with a group of humans flying around with guns that shoot beams of light and make a sort of "peeow" noise. They would of course be acompanied by a friendly predator.

Maybe I'm unaware of something, but I was under the impression we just didn't know a lot of the Predator's background.

The Space Jockeys are quite interesting tbh.. I'd like to know more about them.

If the Spacejockey is explained it'll spoil it. It's much more fun to guess at what it was and why it had all those eggs in its ship, if it even had all those eggs in the ship, according to the earlier idea's the people eventually turned into eggs. So there's always the possibility that the ship had a large crew of spacejocky type aliens which long ago became eggs after a chestbuster "hatched" from the pilot. Or maybe it was carrying all these eggs to get rid of them, or as a biological weapon. Nobody knows, and thats how it should be.

Dirwolf, don't read dark horse crap then, cause they go out of their way to explain the predator background in the most sterile obvious way possible. No imagination on their part.

i read a lot of alien comics (well ive stopped buying them now as ive got all the best ones) and i think alien 5 should let us in on a major secret about the aliens, but not actually tell us the secret...

like whoever has completed eith MGS 1 or 2 will know the kind of thing that i mean. Just a short transmittion between two people after the credits, ending in a huge secret... makes u want them to get on with MGS4 and leave MGS 3, coz its in the 60s and we wond discover what otacon was on about :'(

but i dont mean a little bit at the end... i mean the whole movie we are waiting for this big secret, like theyr etrying to find it out or something... and then they find out something to wet the audiences appatites (nothing TOO big...) and then near the end we get let in on a MASSIVE secret by this guy, exept he dies while telling us... then they escape and a hot chick with ripped clothes says "i cant help feeling its not over..." and then music goes DUNN DUNNN DUNNNNNNN..... and then these bunnies come out and lick carrots. :D

mix that with a load of gore, people screaming, an enviroment to make your hair stand on end and action galore, plus no major characters dying in a crash or big alien / human baby, and we have a good film... then make sure that the special effects and new shiny cameras dontmake the film loose its old, dark and low budget feel and we have a great movie.

But i think we should never know anyhting about the aliens past/ origins or the people who made / bred them. a hint would be nice... a hint to make us question the very purpose of the universe... but overall it should be the aliens futures that is revealed (if anything) not its past.

The novels, however, are brilliantly written.

:P to whatever Fenric's gonna say.

Yeah, that's true... It would spoil alot to get to know basically everything about them.

I read and understood what you said, but for some reason in my mind I was thinking.

John Romero creates game based on AvP movie, game so bad the world ends.
good game, owned

i think the background for both aliens and predators should be left for the domain of comic books and novels. it doesn't quite have that special something which would make it a satisfying movie. i agree with fenric in part about the background being hidden away from everyone. but i think the background should still remain freely available to those who aren't brain washed by modern society (ie. most of you lot who read the predator/alien and AVP comics).

so yeah, keep it out of the movies but carry on with the comics, because i slightly enjoy the comics, making a movie based on that would just ruin a large chunk of a great fictional history and background.

Hmph...I took me a while to get the trailler going...'Cause I just realized you had to "Click here to start" :|

Sure does, it's a shame ILM doesn't do this for the Prequel Episodes of Star Wars.

Who are the Space Jockeys?

Mysterious.. humanoid creatures.. that seem to be the pilots of alien ships and they basically lie grown-togheter with the "ship seat" that is all organic.

They appear in the Aliens Versus Predator games as unusual metal/organ statues and appear to be riding some object.

I have to agree with Fenric on this, the corruption of movies by the Gen X doesn't leaves option to consider this movie a "film"

You remember that bit in the credits of the original predator when all the characters kinda turn to the camera in a silly hammy "Oh there you are! Hi! Glad you enjoyed the show!" kinda way? It's been a running joke with a mate of mine that the Predator does it at the end - it'd be great.
P'raps you had to be there...

Ambivilance is a virtue.

Oh but I don't quite see how it could be aimed at the "younger market" when it'll clearly be an "18" - will there be a sign outside each cinema saying: "Underage? No worries - free beard here! Or free entrance round back! Just don't tell mummy and/or daddy"
