I would say with hundreds of billions of planets in a galaxy and hundreds of billions of galaxies...there are more planets than earth that could have species. Am I saying that this species will be smart? No. Just saying that I would say there is more of a chance for there to be more species than for there not to be.

Slightly agree.

There is a chance, I don't know if it's over 50%.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if humans were not the intelligent species? Would if crawled around on the ground and it was dogs or some other animal who invented the internet and are posting on these forums right now. Interesting.

Trunks are a really specific adaptations, but I would maybe wager on some species have a similar bendable appendage.

Of course there is other life in the universe. It's a no brainer.

There is definitely aliens out there, but I do not believe there is intelligent life forms out there. I believe there is bacteria, and maybe small animals such as plantons, or fishes, but nothing else, maybe grass.:|

I'm going to have to say that right now I don't think there are alien intelligent life forms. If we discover proof of any then cool but til then.

Yeah.

I think yes, and I hope an alien race with superior transport technology but limited weapon technology will invade Earth.

Just to prove that they do exist.

Limited weapon technology, yet they're invading Earth. That's one shittily planned out invasion.

lol
Hey, if they can paradrop a billion alien soldiers with bolt-action rifles, we're going to take some damage :E

Yeah.
As demonstrated in the other thread birds clearly qualify as intelligent. I don't see any reason that something with similar capabilities wouldnt be able to evolve but other lifeforms would be able to.

I don't think you're a nutcase, but aliens don't exist.

You're vote is deemed invalid if you believe this on the basis that evolution is false.
(Well, not really :p But is that the reason?)

My vote is on the basis that earth is the best and only planet with sentient life on it. We're the center of the universe, we rock the galaxy.

So.. your basis for concluding that earth is the only planet with life on it.. is your belief that earth is the only planet with life on it? Brilliant! :p

"Other" intelligent life...

I like reading wacky Sci-Fi and seeing what kind of funky theories authors come up with regarding the nature of space.

I recently read a book called 'A Fire Upon The Deep' by Vernor Vinge in which he envisaged the Milky Way as being split up into different 'zones' of space. Earth is buried deep in the slow zone where faster than light travel is not possible, and it is next to impossible to travel significant distances or make contact with other races.

However, every now and again a species might emerge from the Slow Zone and expand into a zone called the Beyond, where faster-than-light travel is possible the farther you travel off the Y-axis, and accordingly some truly insane technology and AI becomes possible. In this area of the galaxy many alien civilisations interact with eachother, and trade, and rise and fall, but to them a planet like Earth in the Slow Zone may as well be at the bottom of the Mariana Trench - impossible to contact or locate, and so obscure that it may as well be make believe.

Then you get to the very outer reaches of the galaxy, go beyond the 'Beyond', into the 'Transcend' and then shit gets liek zomgwtf. God-like consciousnesses tootle about in this area.

None of this is even slightly based in fact, of course, but it's fun to think about. My answer's Yes btw.

Thats neat, sounds like something I'd enjoy reading :D

I believe anything could exist in this universe with how big it is. I honestly believe in the possibility of an organism just like me somewhere, typing away on his pc. Not necessarily like 'parallel worlds' or anything, but hey that seems possible too. Who the f*ck here would know?

edit: nvm...

...I think I should sleep now

I believe life on other planets exsists. But what I don't believe is a big alien baby like this:

alien-head-440x450.gif

Will one day come to Earth in a flying saucer and stick a probe up my ass.

There must be alien!!!

If no, where are the combine and Vortigaunts come from?

Just so you all know, Intelligent life means any type of life - including bacteria, un-intelligent life is things like grass and trees - vegetation.

Let's just say i wouldn't be surprised at all if we found aliens. However, i will not say they exist as of this moment.

What do you mean. Vegetation is much more intelligent than a single celled organism such as bacteria.

perhaps other lower life forms such as single celled organisms, but no intelligent life.

Pah, who knows? Aliens, whatever. In an infinite universe, everything happens.

You're thinking about multiple realities. If everything happens in the universe, then one could argue that Earth holding the only life in the universe is the only thing that happens. I think maybe you're overestimating the universe.

You'd have to be pretty ****ing nieve to vote no.

Or to vote yes, mm?

I think the third option is probably the most accurate for everyone lol

Why nieve to vote yes?

It's like saying that there is one special dust speck in your room that has bacteria on it. There are no other dust specks in your room with bacteria. There is only one.

Who cares let's just nuke every planet in sight.

Of course there is, any notion that there isn't is quite simply the same as saying that Adam and Eve were real.

So we should say that many many of these dust specks in this room contain bacteria, then?
Well the thing is, that's something we can say for 99% sure anyways, we know it's true.
About life in the universe though, even if it does seem impossible for intelligence not to exist elsewhere, we shouldn't go around stating that it does exist.
How about, "it probably exists, but us little humans don't know poop all atm so we really should wait and see before we say."

That's all I was thinkin :)

Exactly.

We are a tiny dystopian spec in the universe, no more consequential than a pimple on your ass.

What the **** do we know about stuff?
