Alienware in 2010

Alienware is awful, you could buy a regular computer for like 10X the price just because the name Alienware is stamped on it.

This. While Alienware does make quality machines, you pay an absurd price to have the name and case.

What have they done that is innovative? That case is a combination of things already available, and things that are completely useless and just gimmicky that only a 15 year old wannabe nerd would think is cool.

EDIT: They dont really make high quality PCs either. They just let you buy high quality parts and then put them in. Thats the only thing that sets them above other manufacturers like dell, is that you can buy specific parts and they'll use those instead of the limited range of hardware dell and others offer.

Boxx Technologies is a company that is innovative and makes high quality PCs. And they're worth the price usually. Of course the price is usually "If you have to ask, you can't afford it." They dont even display their prices on their website.

you can do so many other things than buy an Alienware. I bought an HP and over time added to it and overall I'm much happier spending at most $1000 than $3000 for the same thing minus the bells and whistles.

ibuypower.com is better
Hp.com is better
a friend who can build a faster pc is better
learning how to make a pc is better

there are so many other choices than just going to AW and getting a really expensive machine.

I can vouch for IBuyPower. My latest PC I wanted to make custom but couldn't be arsed to buy all the parts separately and put it together, so I used them. It was a wonderfully perfect experience.

Let me get this right. This PC has motorized air vents and yet it is liquid cooled...
I realize the air vents are for the radiator but why not get rid of the motorized vents and put the radiator on the back like most setups?

Because motorized vents sounds l33t and l33t gamers need motorized parts in their PCs.

Like hool10?

OH NO HE DIDN'T.

The racing vent was retarded, but the interior of the case was efficiently designed and the HDD bay was definitely nice. No idea what the price was but I'm sure it's absurdly stupid.

I build my own PC's, but if that case was available for a reasonable price I'd probably pick it up. Nice design.

I guess you didn't watch the video. The motorized vents are innovative, having up to 6 HD on the side of the case, and everything about the case sets it apart from anything else. This isn't about price too. Buying an Alienware is about how to get the best and biggest status symbol in PC gaming. I don't even know how some of you got the idea that saying Alienware was better than making your own even.

The day some nerd want's to have a "Status" with how much money/name/case/etc he has, is the day we realize he only cries in the corner to use his tears as lubrication while he masturbates.

*Also, bets on how much shit will break and when on this case.*

This. Pretty much the same features of the Alienware case. No need to get a stupid alienware case with motorized vents.

Well you got some people out there Pitz who just have to have that brand new video card every month. The vents were cool but how they did the cable management, the HD bays on the side of the case, etc are very nice. I have the Antec 900 and it isn't loud and cools things very well. Given the chance I would buy the Alienware case in a heartbeat if I was building a new computer.

When I get my computer with automated air vents we'll rumble.

God that could be years from now. I'll have settled down with a family by that time.

I guess you didnt read my post. The motorized vents are pointless and gimmicky. Easy to swap out hard drive bays have been around for years, having them on the side is nice, but ultimately not much better than any of the other case makes tool-less or hotswap-able drive bays. Plus you're not going to be switching out hard drives that often so its really not usefull or unique enough to be considered innovative.

Nothing about that case is much better than other cases you can buy without spending assloads of money. And you think Alienware is "the best and biggest status symbol in PC gaming."?

Every single time I have heard someone mention they got an alienware, everyone else's thoughts were "wow, thats stupid that you paid so much for that." If thats the pinnacle of PC gaming, then we are absolutely ****ed. Everything "unique" about them is so superficial.

What is the point of having money if you can't spend it on ludicrously expensive yet ultimately worthless things? I ask you. Airflow vents that you'll probably keep up anyway, invalidating the need to be motorized? Segmenting that probably will only serve you every few years when you upgrade? The slick way the front panel slides down all smooth and mechanical-like? Of course it's all superficial and retardedly expensive.

THAT'S THE WHOLE GODDAMN POINT.

If you're not spending money on needless-yet-awesome things you're doing it wrong. Why even bother having money? You know damn well everyone who makes "That's so stupid I can't believe you paid for that" comments wishes deep down they had the kind of scratch to blow on stupid shit.

The sourest of grapes.

Of course you spend money on pointless yet awesome things, but alienware computers are not awesome things. They're stupid. Stupid, Darkside, stupid.

Spend that shit on a 40 inch OLED TV with complementary asian girls.

And man, did you see the way that front panel dropped in the video? It's stupid, alright. Stupid awesome.

You can hook up the alienware to that monitor, too. I don't see why they'd be mutually exclusive in spending your money on them.

That's another thing. Why have separate air flow when it's liquid cooled...
Extra plastic to get in your way when you want to switch out the video card.

Most cards spit the hot air out the back of the case anyway and don't recycle it in the case. So there won't be all that hot air from your GPU going into your CPU's heatsink and killing it's temps. And a lot of cases have the psu on the bottom which gets no hot air from the other parts, separate or not.

There is nothing wrong about someone spending their excess money on Alienware (except sucky customer service but you can always buy another Alienware if you have that kind of money). But the idea for Alienware to implement some of these ideas seems contradictory from design standpoint (actually getting something measurable in return, performance, cooling...something). The only thing that makes sense is that it is for marketing.

I like the look of the case & "fins".

1) Buy the Case & motorized software.
2) Insert Custom Hardware.
3) Spend the $ difference on a fantastic vacation with the family.

Of course the software is prob proprietary to the mobo....
