Not really, I predict preload 4 and the GOLD statement this week.

If by saturday 1 or both of these events has not happened then quote this post to me and make me look stupid.

I'm taking an emotional leap of faith.

you fool.

What if there are 2!!!! more preloads ?

Oh Noes!!!!!!!

If the RC goes gold by the end of the week, we'll probably see another preload since they don't need to make any more changes to the game.
Let's hope we get the Gold Announcement this week ..

I am 95% sure we're going to see Half-Life 2 go gold between the 16th and the 30th.

Knowing VU wants to sell it in the holidays and valve doesn't care, they are going to look for any detail at all, even some that probably aren't a huge issue at all just so they can get valve to work on the game more and more, just watch.

Well, personally I think Vivendi are gonna want it out the door & on shelves ASAP.

VU are a french company, and their Fincial year runs from January to December......VU have had a pretty bad financial year, and HL2 might help them out of the hole they've dug themselves.

The longer VU wait, the less profit they will see in this financial year, so I can't see any reason for VU to sit on it.....they know HL2 is gonna sell big no matter WHAT time of the year its released and for them the sooner the better.

and just to note...if VALVe didnt care, the game would be crap and full of bugs :p It would be just a quick few seconds of fun like some other games ive played. No im not implying anything hehe, cause yea they are fun for awhile.

Also October is fairly quiet as games releases go so they can sell more units as there is no direct competion, but if they sit on it til November, Halo 2 is due out and in December its Star Wars:KOTOR II.

Of Course, I could be wrong, but unless there are any major problems with the RC, I think VU will approve it ASAP.

did u copy that from a different part of the forum?

Na, I work for Vieola, a (ex) subsidary of VU, so I know it has the same financial year as VU (all my managers are currently getting stressed about next years budgets at the mo- hehe)

Everyone knows that VU games division is currently in the crapper as well - lol, so its just a matter of common sense.

VU will know that HL2 will be a big seller for months (possibly years like HL was, especially with mods/addons etc) so it will also help em out next financial year as well.

I think the last people who will wanna hold up HL2 will be VU, if there are any delays, its probably gonna be valve finding more problems.
PS Soz for the double post, dunno how I did that!

I am assuming from the relative silence on the forum that the 4th preload has not occurred yet? I haven't been preloading, so if I looked on Steam it would be there anyway. Thought I would post this in an existing thread instead of making a new one, just for an example of how it's done. :)

It's saturday and no preload/gold.

Err.. Isn't the game already fully preloaded?

Valve's ad thing says, (Not exact) "Preload HL2 now and play as soon as it's released!"

I figure that means, when the game is out, you just pop in your credit card info and junk, and bam, activated!

Right?
Wouldn't that mean that it's fully preloaded?

Nope. Gabe has reported Half-Life 2 is 3.5B uncompressed. so far we have 2.5GB of that uncompressed data. There's still another 1GB to go. Besides, the last preload included "most" of the models used in the game, and there are loads of empty folders in the preloads as well, so we know there's still stuff to preload.

Gotchya. :) (Meaning 'OK', not like, HA I FOOLED YOU HAHAHA!!!)

Well then I think Vavle's ad is a little misleading...

O.K, O.K I was wrong, but The RC was sent, does that count?

I"m guessing that they'll save the last chunk until gold status because it will be the chunk where changes are most likely (probably the code).

No preload this thursday or friday....maybe this time it'll be the real deal!

So maybe the announcment will occur on monday. I sure hope it will.

After the last preload the HL2 preload status says:

"Pre-loading is complete
A locked copy of Half-Life 2 is now on your computer."

That probably means everything major is preloaded, and anything changed since the last preload will be downloaded when it's unlocked.

base source shared materials.gcf
base source shared models.gcf
base source shared sounds.gcf

All that's missing compared to the Half-Life 1 gcfs is the engine, which should be a small download.
