Hey, this is HL2-related, so I wasn't sure if I should post it in the Tech Support place or HL2 Discussion. If this thread is misplaced, please move it. Thanks!

Ok, so, I have an ATi All-In-Wonder 9600 graphics card. I get about 20 FPS in HL2, and my dad has an All-In-Wonder 9600 Pro. So, he offered that if it'd help, we could switch cards. Would I get better FPS if I were to go Pro?
By the way, my other system specs aren't the problem. I have a gig of RAM, an Pentium 4 2.67 GHz processor, XP Home, etc. It's just the graphics card that's holding me back. I was considering buying a PCI TV-Tuner, and get a Radeon 9800 XT, but I'd rather save my money if I can get like 30-40 FPS with a Pro version of the card I already have.

Thanks!

It will give you a boost, but not that significant, maybe 5-10 more fps max

It would be more effective to turn down graphics and all that, 20 fps is unplayable IMHO

Dammit. And trust me, 20 FPS is playable. I have to play it that way. Setting graphics down all the way get me the same FPS, so I decided "Screw it," and cranked the graphics up again.

I would go for it, but dont expect double fps. Should be a noticible increase thou

If its the same FPS on graphics levels, maybe tats not whats bottlenecking your system

I bought a AIW 9800 pro. Are the television features any good? how about thruview?

Television's great. It's a lot easier to record stuff then it is to use VHS, and you can hook a VCR up to your computer, and export to VHS, if you really want to. I don't really use Thruview, but I've tried it out, and it works fine. Never really been a fan of the transparency in windows, but I see how it could be useful. Make sure to get back with me on how HL2 runs on your 9800!

I have the AiW 9600 Pro, runs HL2 at 1024x768 everything on high and 2xaa at about 30-40 frames.

Oh, really? That gives me hope!
Oh, and regarding your sig...That really sucks that Suprnova's gone...Del.icio.us has lots of alternatives, though not as big a database as Suprnova had, better than nothing.

I have the AiW 9600 xt and I get 80 fps on the video stress test on Counterstrike. AMD Athlon XP 3200.

Wtf?!
6char
EDIT
Didn't see the "XT" part.

I have a non All-in-Wonder vanilla 9600pro and I'm getting comfortable performance. I don't go by FPS (mainly because I don't know how to check) but at 800x600 with Full AA it runs perfectly smooth in all battles.

I thought you could "modify" the hardware on some of the 9600 and 9600 pro cards to make them into the equivalent of the XT cards (which are very nice, I must say). I do not remember how though, and I cannot remember if this worked with all 9600's, or just the pro's, or if it worked with any AIW's. On second thought, I guess that wasn't as much help for you as I thought. I'm gonna shut up now.

I am running half life 2 fine with my 9600 AIW pro at a medium level with my crappy amd 2600+ and 512 ddr ram. Mostly at medium 2XAA, trilinear filtering, and 1024X768. There is hope.
