I think it was a matter of timing.
My primary system downloaded the beta in about 25mins at an average of 1Mbps.
I just started my secondary system to update out of interest. It is craaaaaaaawling at barely 10kbps

ahhhh ha, guessey whats, the files are not encytped in gcf files, ohh my connection has always been on 256k, not 56k on the steam settings, dumb assessssssss
