Alyx's ep1 model

I'm not very happy with alyx's model for episodes 1+2, I can't stand that sheen they've put on her skin, it's weird and unrealistic. does anyonewknow a way I can replace it with the HL2 model?

You could copy the Half-Life 2 Alyx from source models.gcf\hl2\models\, but it would probably be missing animations.
I'd try playing with the .vmt files to get rid of the sheen (phong?).

Picky much? The new Alyx is better, more realistic, and if you listened to some of the EP1 commentaries, her face has more polies and is capable of smoother and more detailed facial animations. The hl2 model wouldn't be able to perform many of her facial expressions.

I think to get rid of the sheen you need to extract all the .vmt files from soure 2007 materials.gcf\hl2\materials\models\alyx\ to steamapps\<user>\half-life 2 episode 2\ep2\materials\models\alyx\ (create the directory if it doesn't exist).
Open the .vmt files in Notepad and try deleting any lines that say phong (I'm not certain that this is the cause, but if it doesn't work you just delete the .vmt files).

If think the sheen is Rim lighting. It's the shaders you'd have to disable, using HL2 Alyx will still give the same effect. I honestly can't stand HL2 Alyx now because it's lacking these effects.

Nope, the only way to do it requires a good amount of computering knowledge.

tbh, if she was causing a lot of framerate issues or slowed your computer down, i would understand, but if your that obsessed with how she looks... hate to say it, but it sounds like you don't have a girl friend IRL...
