PSP looks more pleasing to my eye, but I've heard the DS is actually better than the PSP. I have my doubts about that. I am also not sure if playing games with the stylus is fun or annoying... For example, how would I hold the stylus in one hand and press buttons at the same time? With my other hand? I think not.

You're better off buying a gun and a bullet, then putting the gun in your mouth and pulling the trigger

You think they would have made such a thing if it was flawed at such a basic level?

The DS is better according to the majority of HL2.net, and I own one and have borrowed a PSP from a friend. The general consensus of the PSP is that if you like to have a system that you will use at home most of time and don't have a PS2/MP3 player, then the PSP is right for you. If you're constantly on the move, like innovative/different games, and value a long battery life, then the DS is better. Also, Nintendo refreshed the DS, the DS lite is smaller, has better battery life than the DS, and has much brighter screens for the same price.

Also, you kind of have to get used to using the stylus in one hand and the buttons in the other, it takes getting used to, but then it feels natural. Plus, most games usually allow you to exclusively use either the buttons or stylus.

Depends on your tastes. The DS is cheaper and is more "fun", and the WiFi is really great, especially when Nintendo is adds some more features, which is what they say they are going to do.

The PSP is more for if you want to play more serious games, and have better graphics. You can put stuff like pictures and music on it, but personally I see no real use for that.

PSP all the way. The DS has the same old Nintendo games, most of which are for children. The PSP has far better graphics, much better games, movie/music capabilities, tons of online games, etc..

If you like good graphics: PSP
If you like good games: PSP
If you like movies and music: PSP
If you like online gaming: PSP
If you are under the age of 12: DS
If you like using a stylus like a palm pilot: DS
If you like asian games featuring pets: DS
If you like terrible graphics: DS

Anyone who takes his comment serisously is a dumbass...

Definitely DS. It's just so much more fun to use, and there are some really interesting games. PSP's nothing special.

Right now the DS by far. Simply because of the battery life.
It has also gotten some great games, and it's support is very much growing.
The stylus is not nessesairy a better way to play games, but it's a fresh new way that works well enough and is quite fun. If I were you I would wait for zelda the phantom hourglass to come out and buy a DS bundled with that game. Plus you can use the stylus to draw and write small WiFi messages if I am correct, it's also getting a browser. And it's succes garanties good 3d party support.

Now if you are like me and you really like the kind of games that came out for the ps2 then you might want to wait a year or so to see if sony will some with a better battery for the PSP. By that time the ps2 wouldn't get any support so the PSP would get more original games. Plus the PSP has a SNES emulator and in the future it might get stable and you could play a lot of games. The fact that you can use it as a media player just makes it better. Plus it's power allowes for GT4 like games on a handheld with all it's complesities, and FFX like games. Now I cannot say it's really better then the DS, but people here really underrate it, it would be a great device with much potential if it were not for the battery.

Fixed.

I think the DS is much better. I fine the games to be much more fun to play and they aren't just "kiddy" they're fun.
Sure, some are remakes or continuations of old games... but so are games on the PSP. GTA: LCS, MGS, NFS etc etc... Can i get a "Riiiidge Raaaacer" in here please :p
The DS has a better battery life AND soon it will be able to play movies/mp3's/pictures with a third party add-on and the DS is soon going to get an official Opera web browser iirc.
And the stylus is very easy to use and if you're using the stylus you dont need to use the buttons (apart from the D-pad) in most cases.

DS :)

Better and more varied games - which also happen to be more suited to handheld gaming.
Better multiplayer both on and offline.
It feels new, innovative, while also catering for the old Nintendo games we all know and love.

PSP if you are the sort of person who has to buy each new iPod generation.

DS if you are cool and want to be down wiv da kids. And also if you want a new gaming expirience, games that you can't play anywhere else, and possibly the most accesible console online service ever.

So far the only good point brought up about the DS is the battery life.. My PSP gets 8+ hours on a full battery, so I don't even know what you goons are talking about.

You can't just keep using the same "battery life" argument over and over again.

Let's rephrase;

Graphics: PSP
Games: Your preference
Online: PSP (Much easier server browsers, hardware updates, WiFi support, Ad Hoc, Infrastructure modes etc..)
Other Multiplayer: Up to you, both are well done.
Built in browsing: PSP or DS with "3rd party add-ons soon to be released"
Movies, Music, Other functionality: PSP or DS with "3rd party add-ons soon to be released"
Battery Life: DS (Barely)

And Ren.182, what a champ making all the PSP categories PC. After all, he was asking if he should buy a PC or DS, you tard.

Firstly, I prefer the DS graphics. Just like I always preferred the constantly styled SNES games over the occasionally crappy grey-textured N64 games. It's not about how many million teraplopogons it can do in a second, it's about style. Especially on quick-play games.

And as for battery life, I get 15 hours out of my DS and you say that barely beats your 8 for PSP?

I don't want to get into arguments, but you are taking a very close minded view.

You prefering crappier graphics doesn't change the fact that the PSP has far superior graphics.

Absolutely. When was the last time you played a handheld for 9 hours straight? The argument would make sense if the PSP's battery life was 2 hours and possibly interfered with playing it, but it lasts far longer than you would ever play it for, and it recharges in 20 minutes tops.

Complain about MP3 players battery life, not a handheld gaming system.

Yeah, well, the PSP may have "good graphics" but what's graphics if the gameplay sucks? Again, it all comes down to peoples opinions and preferences.
And i don't see the point in playing movies on a PSP, or music. When most people have an MP3 player. I'd hate to watch a movie on such a small screen.

HENCE THE CATEGORIES. Way to be a hypocrite.

Well why not, it's cool to be able to use it for multiple purposes, instead of having to buy a whole new mp3 player you simply buy a memory stick, it takes much less space, and is cheaper. Same go's for movies, I can download episodes of Invader Zim and put them on a psp to watch during math. The PSP also has an anolog stick that works pretty well, and it's power and good graphics certainly aid in making a more enjoyable world and experience.

Hahahaha, so true. That said, I might be getting a DS just for Sonic Rush and maybe that new Mario game.

Oh 'c mon, dreadlords comments were just insulting. The DS has if you look at gamerankings more games and with average higher scores.

It's graphics are fine, it's online capabilities are just as good as PSP's if not better, I don't know about that for sure to be honest.
The stylus allowes for more uique and fresh games and you can write with it, it has asian games featuring pets.

Edit: lol the nintendo forum is more fair to the PSP then this one:

The first link makes some great points:

PSP:

1. Looks great.
2. Appeals more to public.
3. Large screen.
4. Made like the PS2.
5. Movies.
6. Graphics look like PS2.
7. Plays MP3 music.
8. All good Sony games.
9. Online play.
10. Game sharing.
11. Web Browser.
12. Digital Photo viewer.
13. Non-cartoon games. They are very realistic.
14. Emulators. Can play all old games such as NES, SNES, N64, SEGA GENSIS.
15. An “all-in-one” device. Can replace portable DVD player, MP3 Player, Laptop (to surf web.). It makes it convenient.

PSP.

Oh man, absolutely DS. The PSP LOOKS cooler, and does have better graphics, but there are barely any good games, the battery life is absolute shit, it's nowhere near as durable, and as far as I can tell, the multiplayer capabilities aren't as good. So if you want a portable system to show off, get the PSP. If you want something with great games, great battery life, great durability, and TONS of people playing it, get a DS.

Just as the Wii, I'm far more interested in normal games rather than degraded gameplay with a tacked on "after gimmick".

EDIT: The battery is perfectly fine in my eyes. You see, since I actually own a PSP, I would know that. There are times were I leave it on sleep for more than a week and the battery still has 50% life. I would play GTA for about 3 hours and it still had a lot left (and thats saying a lot since GTA is constantly loading). The multiplayer is kind of lacking for single game ad-hoc (takes reaaaaally long to send game data) but if you manage to find a friend with the same game as you, the multiplayer is perfect. And on a better note, the PSP has online play, and not stupid online play like Mario Kart (which I've played), you actually get to chat to the people with either an onscreen keyboard or the voice headset (Socom) both of which are non-existant on Mario Kart.

Not to mention games like Wipeout Pure offer free downloadable tracks, vehicles, skins, etc..

Mortal Kombat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ds :)

It all matters your tastes.
I prefer the DS.

The PSP.....yeah I don't need to watch movies at school or on the bus or anything...I have people who I can talk to and have an intresting conversation with. Music? Well If I want to listen to music my H10 works perfect and is much smaller and easier to carry around. Games? idk whats to appealing on the PSP. Plus Games are similar to movies and I gave my reason for movies.

Personally I think the DS has more relaxing games that are just mindless fun. Like the Mario 64 port, the game is simple. It's very relaxing and you can take your mind off of anything with it. I mean I prefer mindless humor over humor that you have to think about. Games are a similar way.

Also with the Stylus. Thats more for just writing. You can use anything for the touch screen.

So in my opinion, if you like relaxing games take the DS. Actually get neither. Why do you need a damn portable? I don't see to much use for em. Get a Cell Phone, call some people, have a fire, and get some beer. A night well spent. Just no licker after beer......1st hand experince after I've been told...a few times...

Umm some famous series on PSP:
Metal Gear
Ridge Racer
Grand Theft Auto
Syphon Filter
Tony Hawk (Sucks.. But still quite popular with some)
Twisted Metal
SOCOM
Need For Speed
Street Fighter
Madden NFL
The Sims
ATV Offroad Fury
Dynasty Warriors
Splinter Cell
Burnout

Not to mention a few hundred other individual titles, and tons of other well known games. But yeah, nothing good on PSP.

No, the battery life is just fine. And the multiplayer capabilities go hands down to PSP. Ad Hoc, Infrastructure, WiFi, etc.. Go read up on a few PSP reviews, the online play is dominated by PSP.

I've yet to run into anyone playing a PSP or a DS. So I can't comment on that. I know a bunch of people online who play against me in Twisted Metal and such.

The PSP can play all Nintendo, SNES, N64, and Genesis games, so that doesn't really help.

It was one (sarcastic) post. I've posted tons of actual replies, and all everyone keeps saying is "My DS has better battery life. I can travel to China and back on foot while playing Mario and it still has 223999% battery power. One time our car died on the highway, and we started it back up on just my DS, and drove 2000 miles home with our highbeams on and blasting the radio. NASA has started using DSes in place of their fuel, one DS can power 6 flights to the moon and back"

The DS sucks. I don't even need to back myself up.

I think that's probably reason enough for anyone to get it :O

The DS has New Super Mario Bros. Therefore, the DS is better.

My brother thought the same. 4 months later his PSP was sold (after the dust had been scraped off) and he joined the collective with a shiny new DS :borg:
