am I better off buying a PSP or a Nintendo DS?

O... k...? Why are you breaking it into individual countries? Is America the only country that matters? DS sales are higher than PSP sales in total. (Everywhere, the whole world), this is all that matters. Breaking it up into individual countries, and claiming there is a difference, would just be... well, you could call it racist or ignorant. "Japanese people don't matter, I'm not going to take their opinions into view" :|

I get the feeling you know you are being brutally beaten down in this thread, so I'll stop humoring you.

Because he said the DS was outselling the PSP everywhere, which it isn't.

Again, let the thread die. I didn't get beaten down once, The kid even said he was buying a PSP.

kid? what kid?

Is it possible to play ROMS of old Nintendo games on the DS? If not, then PSP all the way

I know. I'm not sure if theres a cheaper way though. You can buy an add on for about $20 i believe that will allow you to play movies, images and music.

Doesn't the $100 add on stuff still work out to be cheaper than a PSP when brought with a DS?
Also, you could buy a smaller storage card to save a bit of dosh. Since roms can be pretty small you wont need huge amounts of space (i.e. 1GB. You could probably have enough space with 256mb or even a 128mb card. That'd lower the price of that little uprade.)
Also, don't you need a PSP running at version 1.5 to play/use homebrew programs. Aren't all new PSP's shipped with the latest version 2.x??

yeah but those little extras are over $100

Well the PSP is $250, whereas the DS Lite is $130.

As a person that has a DS Lite I'd say DS is the way to go. I have 2 friends with a DS and PSP, they never touch their PSP any more and I have a friend with just a PSP and he wishes he had a DS.

DS has more original gameplay and that = win for me.

I'd like to point out to emulate stuff on the PSP requires a downgrade to 1.5, and Sony now requires that you upgrade your PSP to play the newer games. The updates comes on the disk too.

if it has that feature before everything else it will be revolutionary. I've been waiting for folding or otherwise flexible screens for ages.

Not without extra stuff, however the PSP can play Nintendo, SNES, Genesis, and N64 roms without anything extra.

Just like to point out that he may not be able to play newer games.

Personally, I would go for the PSP, but only because

A) GTA HANDHELD WOOOOO!
B) Media center.

Unfortunantly, i hear it has the battery life of a dead ant.

This is just sad.

PS: I consider myself a neutral source, and I prefer the DS.

No, I didn't. I made one post and he told me to shut up. That's not spamming whatsoever, why don't you PISS THE HELL OFF now.

And you're not neutral if you prefer the DS you friggin' clown.

How is he unbiased more than anyone else though? I own a DS and a PSP, am I unbiased? Pfft.

Heh, before coming into this thread I saw "Sui" made the latest post...

Didn't realize you got your name changed :p

No kidding! :O
First SHIPPI gets name reduction, then you get the last 3/4 of yours taken off! What's next, Munro becoming Munrobot!?

Nope, just "Mun" or "Mu"

Just like I'll become "Ami" :p

People call me Veg sometimes like some people call Suicide Sui sometimes so I think I should go to Veg.

Atleast it will get rid of those noobish, although legendary, numbers.

We should all get our names shortened. 3 letters, everyone. It would be a breath of fresh air into the... names... I dunno, it would be neat to see everyone have 3 letter names. And we'd have to get creative for people with longer names. We sure would have to rely on avatar recognition more often :p

I rely on it to much, I seriously get confused when people change their avatars.

Oh man - the fanboys in this thread especially coming from the Sony side is just ergh.

When they start running out of points they resort to insulting avatars, then people. And then pulling facts out their butts.

Yes, I did mean unbiased, instead of neutral. Pardon me, thanks for pointing out my mistake by insulting me.

No, this thread ended days ago, and people keep bumping it with more stupid ass remarks like yours, it's annoying as hell.

The Internet, Serious Business.

I find that nearly everything annoys you to hell and you snap on nearly everyone you disagree with. Well sinse you've just admitted you let things on the internet annoy you to hell, it would be wise to either calm the hell down because you get way too pissed off at the internet, or just leave entirely for a few weeks.

Same as your psp bragging.

You don't have to keep replying you know, nobody made you look back in the thread.

Hilarious thread. Read it front2back.

I played the DS at various game stores. MP Hunters, something else. Couldn't get into it.
I played my friends PSP. Most of the games SUCKED, except for the remake of MMX1. It was fun for 2 hours, I beat it and was done with it.

It seems everyone around here with PSP got it for the hype factor and it's for the most part collecting dust unless they have the v1.5. Those guys haul it around with porn and anime. Otherwise useless.
I have yet to see anyone with a DS above 10 years old. That's not to say it's for kids. I want one for some reason. It's just an appealing thing. Course I'm also a PDA guy.

I'm 21 and me and my friends love the DS. I think the people under 10 you're seeing are probably playing games like Nintendogs or Animal Crossing or something. I'm playing Kirby, Mario 64 DS and Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (still need to get Kart DS).

Do those guys watch porn on the train, or just masturbate in public bathrooms?

I'm 18, and i know at least 3 other 18 year olds who have a DS. I see random people around college with a DS, and a couple with a PSP. Apparently a lot fo adults are getting into the DS in Japan too with that new brain game thingy-majig.

Not true. I'm 18, just got my DS Lite yesterday (I wanted a black one :(), and picked up New Super Mario Bros., Metroid Prime Hunters, Nintendogs, and Animal Crossing. All four of these games are amazing, and really addictive.

As for some legitimate closure to the argument, I've played the PSP and the DS a great deal over the past few weeks. Well - that's not entirely true. I tried out GTA LCS and Metal Gear Solid on the PSP for a while, and was mildly entertained. I was then intrigued, and subsequently bored, by the homebrew SNES emulation. I was then sucked into Metroid Prime Hunters for about two hours straight, until a guy on the store floor told me to let other people play.

Really, the difference between the PSP and the DS is graphical horsepower, control, and originality. The PSP is great for PS2-quality visuals on the go. But you've already played all those games in exactly the same way you played them on the PS2. With the DS, you get the touchscreen (which really does make games easier to control, especially inventories in games like Animal Crossing), and you also get really inventive and addictive games you won't see on any other system (like Nintendogs, Kirby Canvas Curse, etc.).

If you're a graphics whore, the PSP is for you. If you like games that are different than what you've been playing for the past 20 years, the DS is for you.

I wasn't saying that those games are just for youngin's - just pointing out the fact that it's probably their biggest audience.

Personally I'm finding it hard to put down my Lite when I have Mario 64 DS, M&L: RPG and Kirby.

Can't wait for the new Zelda and the new Starfox :)

I'm completely unbiased when it comes to handehelds (because I stopped using those when I turned 11) but I always love a good flame-war. A lot of people are coming across as idiots in this thread, and if you are thinking "well, I sure don't" then you are probably very wrong.
