AMD Athlon™ 64 FX-51 Processor Help

From what i hear this is the fastest CPU on the market right now.And im planing to build a whole new tower Mainly for HL2 some q3 and Wc3.

Im planning to get the AMD Athlon™ 64 FX-51 http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_9485_9488,00.html and this http://www.asus.com/products/mb/socket940/sk8n/overview.htm

Is this a goood choice? Will i have problems running games like Sof2 Quake 3, WC3, and of course HL2?

some guy said that "windows wont run on 64-bit yet" something like that

Will i run into some problems? sucks when u spend alot of money on something that doesnt work on ur games.

Btw will Xp pro run fine on this?

XP Pro will and does run on it. It would be pointless to release a piece of hardware no OS can support.

Edit: I belive the ASUS SK8N - NVidia nForce3 Pro 150 Motherboard is the only motherboard that supports it though.

They specifically made the new processor the be backward compatible. It will work perfectly well with 32bit OS's and applications (such as XP pro), but where it really has an advantage is with software that is designed to take advantage of the fact its a 64 bit processor. Applications designed for a 64 bit processor will not run on a 32 bit CPU but they will be much faster since they take advantage of the abilities of a 64bit CPU.
