"I know Amerca is a shithole and is gonna be gone in 20 years, which is why I need to move to Canada."

If your that low then you might as well say that every single country is a shithole and will be gone in 20 years.

"Nearly one out of four Americans [believe] that using violence to get what they want is acceptable" (The European Dream, p.32).

I'm not disagreeing with this... My issue is with this attitude of superiority so many seem to have; like the US is above the problems that affect the rest of the world.

For instance, I read some people talking about how "God is on our side" in the war in Iraq. As if God really wants all those Iraqi's to die, but not US soldiers... It's just an example of a kind of arrogant behavior that seems fairly prevailent. What reason is there to believe the US is inherently superior to teh rest of the world? It's inane.

Not that the US doesn't excel in some areas, for surely we do.
I for instance respect US science, but I do feel this is slowly being stifled by public disinterest and political idiocy, and a failing education system means this will laregly be the domain of europe and asia, among others.

Shoulda been more clear, the US has a higher number of crimes, as well as the highest level of incarceration in the world. Also most murders, im not talking about bike theft :dozey:

What do you expect when the US has almost 5 times as many people as the UK?

I still say - if I could choose to live anywhere in the world, and had unlimited funds, I would move to Pacific Beach, California, San Diego United States of America. If I wont the lottery this afternoon Id be on the plane tonight. There are parts of the USA I would not want to live, but damn its a big place. Plenty of places I would. I've been to a lot of places around the world for work - and San Diego suited me the best. Certainly there is nowhere in Asia I'd want to spend any significant amount of time.

I'm just saying that any country could be put into a negative light with such statistics. Also, the United States is one large and diverse country. The kind of intelligence displayed by a huge chunk of idiots in some locations do not reflect every state.

Dood ... holy shit. I love you. I was so about to say that.

I'm 17 I feel I'm pretty intelligent... one of the relatively few success stories of our public education.

Not like it matters, this nation of dumbasses will still beat the shit out of any of yours.

Heh, that was stupid even for a joke...

Corporations have more & more power. Your average income is held high by some 10% of the population. Although you have the richest people in the World, conditions in most bad neighboorhoods are worse than in Brazil. America will never be #1 on anything but military power for a long, long time.

And who said the European Dream was scary ?
this is what the book's about :

"emphasizes community relationships over individual autonomy, cultural diversity over assimilation, quality of life over the accumulation of wealth, sustainable development over unlimited material growth, deep play over unrelenting toil, universal human rights and the rights of nature over property rights, and global cooperation over the unilateral exercise of power"

if that's scary I'm the boogie man.

I am pro-Socialism and pro-EU, but I'm definitly not anti-American. I'm pro-equality. So if you'd like to join the top 10 (of the good things) club...

btw, some of those statistics are pretty dumb. Like "#1 cause for death of pregnant women is murder".
