<sorry I couldnt resist>

CNN said:
A gunman killed six people at a one-room Amish schoolhouse Monday morning in Pennsylvania's bucolic Lancaster County, and several others were taken to hospitals with injuries, authorities said.

"So far, six confirmed dead, and the helicopters are pulling into (Lancaster General Hospital) like crazy," Coroner G. Gary Kirchner said.

I cant see this being a member of an amish community, not that their religiousosity precludes them from acts of barbarism ..mass shootings just doesnt seem to be their MO ...poor kids probably didnt know what was happening till it was too late

absolutely horrible that nowhere is safe (except in gun free zones which seem to be safer than ....non-gun-safe-zones)

Good god, he finally cracked.

We should have treated him better. :(

From what I know, it was a domestic dispute and the guy just snapped.

Yeah I was sleeping and I had the radio on. I instantly woke up when there was mention of a shooting in the US on the news broadcast. Then they mentioned that it was at a Amish school, which is definately the most oddest and concerning places to take hostages and murder.

I hope none of the victims needed paddles used on them :O

*cough cough*political agenda*cough cough*

bah somehow you missed the "amish are bred to be gun toting homicidal maniacs" subtly hiding below the more obvious political agenda maquerading (albeit transparantly so) as a geniune concern for our hat wearing brethern ..I guess I have no one to blame but myself: this is the house (barn) that stern built

that's a mighty fine barn, english!

Terrible :(

But why does this image look fake?

Looks like its from a game or something.

This makes me sad, I love the Amish. They're the only people in this god-forsaken land who are keeping it old school.

At the same time, it scares the bejesus out of me. If it can happen to the Amish, it can happen to anyone.

they didnt have a reporter on the scene so they just used a screenshot from Left Behind. see?

"As I always said; The difference between saving a soul and committing murder - 3 points."
This is terrible anyway. I hope they find who did it.

You lost me at the barn of stern.

Man, first a homicidal pervert, then a crazy principal-shooting ex-student, then this--all within a week or so!! Educators need to be paid more!!!

I think the 32 year old guy with a 12 gauge hole in his head lying on the classroom floor is a prime suspect......

UPDATE:

police have issued a public statement warning citizens to be on the lookout for the shooter. Here's a composite sketch

Not really the best time to make jokes Stern. :-/

I think it's because the sun is almost directly between the camera's position and the crowd of people. So you can't really see the shadows, but there are little slivers visible, which makes it look photochopped.

Terrible news though :( Poor Pennsylvania.

I was about to post saying the principals should be allowed to have a gun in their office for such a situation. Then I remembered the Chinese guy from my sig.

Didn't something happen last week like this in Colorado?

Jeez, that must've taken a while, those muskets take about ten minutes to reload.

"We're all living in an Amish gangster paradise."

Schools should have armed soldiers guarding them.

Definantl not, 15357. The more guns avaliable = more shootings.

But jeeze, it's student hunting season. Sudden spike in school shootings. :(

Third shooting this week, apparently :(

Just caught it on the news before. Apparently he called his wife beforehand saying something to the effect that he was acting on something for revenge. Something that happened 20 years ago.

So... he went and killed a bunch of kids who weren't even BORN when whatever it was happened.

Good show, psycho dick :|

So he goes and shoots the people who dont have it coming.....

Why do I never hear of drug dealers getting shot?

Hearing about a shooting in the US made you wake up?

You must never sleep, my friend.

This was an irregularly bad one, and I was shocked to see it too, but just the way you said it sounded funny to me.

Anyways this guy was done a serious dis-service by someone along the line, and was, to quote cnn, out for "revenge."

So he goes and shoots the people who dont have it coming.....

Why do I never hear of drug dealers getting shot?

If you read Steven Levitt's Freakonomics, he claims a Chicago drug dealer has a 1 in 4 chance of dying, and get shot or beaten up an average of 2.4 times over a four year period. So yeah, it's not the safest job in the world.

Not really, it matters who is carrying the guns.

Who holds the guns is important, granted, but the mere fact that the guns are there and easier to get is important.. The more guns that are avaliable for aquisition - that is, the more guns that are in your general area and easy to steal/obtain/get, the rate of shootings will go up. It's like, if people around you have swords, it's more likely that you will be able to "get" a sword and use it.

Look, let's say you don't have any toasters. Let's say the people around you get toasters, but you don't. Has the probability of you aquiring toasters and using said toaster risen?

Uh, how are shooters gonna get guns from armed soldiers?

There are a myriad of ways, 15357. Your soldiers aren't incorruptable, they can't ever completely prevent theft... so on, so on...

He seems shorter than I remember. : O
