I've always wanted to try this, but I could never find enough willing people, I figured I'll try here..
What I was thinking is that some of you guys volunteer for this experiment, the requirements are:
- You must have an instrument (a regular type, like a guitar, piano, bass, etc. Not computers)
- You must have no/very little musical experience.
- You must be able to record somehow (through MP3 player microphone even)
- No post production, what you play is what you submit. It's fine if you try to clean it up a bit like removing static or something, but don't add effects or cut/paste parts and stuff like that.
What the experiment is, is that we get atleast 3 music noobs and give them a set time (say a month) to make a song atleast 2 minutes long (longer is better). And when all the submissions are in, we get some music veterans to judge all of the submissions.
It's pretty simple, the point of this just to see how good of music a non-musical person can make. As most of the people who have been playing for a long time or know music theory are always trying to be so technical and perfect, I want to hear what a person who knows nothing of music playing can do.
I think it could be interesting, if you are interested in submitting, just post here saying "I'll try" or whatever, and then you have until December 4th (it's November 4th now) to submit.
Hopefully we get some people to give this a try, good luck.
