A Tel Aviv University team excavating a cave in central Israel said teeth found in the cave are about 400,000 years old and resemble those of other remains of modern man, known scientifically as Homo sapiens, found in Israel. The earliest Homo sapiens remains found until now are half as old.

Pretty cool, I hope more remains are found which would provide more conclusive evidence that they're the bones of Homo Sapiens.

Holy shit its in israel creationism is true that's adam omg

Pretty cool stuff, I bet he's older than Adam and Eve too

Guys, Adam & Eve weren't invented back then.

Uh, 394,000 years before God was even supposed to have created the world, let alone Adam and Eve... yeah, I'd say its older than them.

As you should well know I'm no advocate for religious teachings etc, but I think it's fair to point out that it's only backwards Americans that claim the world is 6000 years old (by applying some amusing math formula), there's nothing in the bible itself that would lead a rational person to such conclusions. Most Christian religious leaders (like the Pope for example) consider the origin story allegorical.

From a scientific perspective this is a pretty significant find (it's going to redraw the map regarding the evolution of mankind). It's a shame to see it get dragged off into another round of 'Ha stupid religion!!' like anyone in the sewing circle of HL2.net is anything other than an atheist (informed and otherwise) in the first place.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Instead of a topic on an excellent archeological find, its already had a bunch of anti-religion comments which has kadayi said are pointless because the Bible doesn't say anything about the world being 6000 years old at all, how people came to such conclusions is beyond me. But the Pope is a Catholic leader, he doesn't have any relevance to my faith, and to be honest a penguin has as much right to speak on behalf as Christianity than he does...

Can the moderators please start issuing infractions on anything remotely religious on this forum? At least then we can be rid of the same stuff from the all high and mighty athiest league on here, its creating a lasting stink on the forums at the moment. I mean guys, we get it (we, probably being the minority in this argument), you hate religion, I think we got that impression with the previous thousands of anti-religion topics there have been, you don't need to make your anti-religious points on ANYTHING that is remotely tied into the topic. Just give it a bloody rest, its boring...

Sorry to burst all your enthusiasm but:

Sir Paul Mellars, a prehistory expert at Cambridge University, said the study is reputable, and the find is "important" because remains from that critical time period are scarce, but it is premature to say the remains are human.
"Based on the evidence they've cited, it's a very tenuous and frankly rather remote possibility," Mellars said. He said the remains are more likely related to modern man's ancient relatives, the Neanderthals.

So, this is yet another sensationalized science related article in the media. Go figure.

But Adam and Eve were young then Mesopotamian civilization

Truly this is the face of religious insensitivity. ****ing string em up.

Anyway isn't it against forum policy to go off-topic? All those members should be getting infractions anyway under the new supposedly harsher rules about them, they clearly state:

You will not:
- Post 'spam' including content of no importance, single word posts or completely off topic from the thread.

And its not just going off-topic accidentally, its just deliberately and in bad taste..

Well, it may have been deliberate, but off-topic, and in bad taste are both disputable. Fossils have long since been relevant to religious discussion, and frankly, I don't see how its bad taste to talk about it.

And thats not even mentioning the fact that pretty much every post about Adam and Eve was said jokingly. I mean, damn.

Maybe it would be better if we all just stopped posting. Less chance for hurt feelings and infractions that way.

Well, too young to be Raptor Jesus, but old enough to be Caveman Jesus.

The irony is, the only one who brought insensitivity up was Bad^Hat. All I said was it was irrelevant and OT (which it is). Feel free to twat around though. Maybe get yourself folding some proteins for the hl2.net team however, that way something constructive might come out of the time wasted boosting your post counts. :dozey:

Welcome back, by the way. We missed you ever so much. :)

How is that ironic? Nobody said you brought up insensitivity. Not everything is meant to be a reply to you. We're quite capable of discussing something without your input.

Us folding proteins, constructive, hah.

Yes, I ran it for a few weeks a year or two ago well spotted.
