Members of what is described as the largest congregation in the Anglican Church of Canada voted strongly Wednesday to split with Vancouver-area Bishop Michael Ingham over his support for same-sex blessings.

The vote means the church, which has more than 700 members, will break with Ingham and join with the conservative Anglican bishops of the Diocese of the Southern Cone, which includes Argentina and Paraguay.

Speaking before the vote, he said he expected many people would support the motion because of a belief that same-sex blessings run counter to gospel teachings.

"The Bible rules out homosexual partnerships as outside God's will," said Packer, in an interview Wednesday afternoon. "In view of decisions made in previous years with regards to this issue, I would think there's a fair consensus on this issue."

...so the church will go back to stoning people for things like adultery? eating animals with cloven hooves? kill false prophets?

you cant pick and choose what you want to follow and then say you're being "true to the bible" ..damn hypocrites

anyways the last time this happened the United Church of Canada was formed ..and they're probably one of the most liberal of christian groups ..unforetunately it's the ultra conservatives who are splitting ..couldnt they drink poison koolaid instead?

I'm against allowing homosexuals to be priests. It's an insult to their dignity; the bible is very biggoted and homphobic

Not surprising. More bigotted hatred from uneducated fools.

This. Why on Earth would a homosexual want to belong to something that hates them for no reason whatsoever (though of course, the bible also hates women - but no christian admits this :p )?

So? If someone wants to be a priest and he follows all principles and rules of being a priest, he should be able to become a priest.

There was a discussion in the Netherlands about the most conservative (Christian, of course) political party not allowing women in a position of power within the party. A lot of people were fine with that, as the party should have a say over who should be allowed to join their little club of biggoted morons. Sure, but they can't refuse someone on basis of what they are. That's discrimination. They should be able to refuse someone on basis of their values or ideas. There's no reason why they should allow a liberal atheist who disagrees with them on all points to join their ranks, because he doesn't share their political beliefs (but if he, paradoxically, does share their political beliefs, he should be able to join, despite being an atheist). But if a black, Jewish woman wants to join that agrees with the party's inane ideas, she should be able to, refusing her should be forbidden.

I disagree, people should be allowed to set up and create their own racist institutions if they so wish.

Freedom of speech. It means retarded people get a say too :(

Sure just as long as they're not allowed to put that racism into practice, they can have their racist circle jerk club. But they should also allow a black guy to join them, as long as the black guy agrees with their racist bullshit.

Why the hell do American churches split so much? It's rediculous.

I made no mistake. I knew that it was in Canada before I made that post.

The same thing is sadly happening to my parents Episcopal church.

I find it amusing & totally pathetic, when one person or group of persons, try to tell another person or persons that it is wrong to be Gay. The way I see it & the way I have raised my daughter, is that if a couple is happy, it does not matter that they might be of the same sex. My mom is so very much against it & I feared that she might had been talking about it to my daughter. I have had discussions with her about homosexuality, but my mom is sadly close minded & won't talk about it, only saying it is wrong and against God. So my wife & I have talked to our daughter about it. Telling her that it's ok to be gay, but ultimatly, it's her decision to believe what she feels is right. (and lets face it, what dad that has a daughter does NOT want their daughter to be gay, that way they will not want anything to do with boys.. ) So they can't conceive a child, (Yes, a woman can have a child, I know, but I mean as a couple) that is their choice & no one else's. You have a right to not like it, thats fine, but kindly keep your feelings to yourself. Your preaching isn't going to "convert" them to being straight.

I didn't know that continental drift had seperated Canada from North America.

not possible since canada is north america ...however you didnt say "north american" you said "american":

Why the hell do American churches

the way that sentence is phrased implies the US ..canadians are not known as "americans", americans are

Canada and the united states are equally North America. Mexico and Greenland too for that matter.
