My roommate watches so much of it, and it's all so terrible. So very very bad. The drawing has never impressed me, and the voice acting is horrendous. I've seen 6th grade productions of "To kill a Mockingbird" that were more believable.

"You could be the one who could finally opens the door to the other world! You could tear down the wall!"
"OMFG! I can do it! Nay, i WILL do it!"

...right. The stories are absolutely ridiculous.

;) yea, but this one isn't about him really. My god i'm TRYING to get away from him but i keep getting the shaft :(

I clicked on the one that wasn't "is awesome" because I've yet to see an anime that I've liked.

Besides Excel Saga, which is an anime that makes fun of anime.

Haven't seen Spirited Away or Princess Mononokaokda or whatever yet, either.

Yep...anime is crap. I have many friends who are into it and they say I have been watching the bad stuff. I go watch what they consider good and end up passing out from blood loss because my eyes have bled so much from crappy cartoons.

Epilepsy!

I dunno.

Some of these high production value movies like "Spirited away" are absolutely gorgeous and artistically beautiful.

But the average anime show is pumped out a dime a dozen afai care.

They're all the same.

"Zamagasakanu, you're outside of the manadaske portal!"

"Yeah, I know. Those damned Makalanas drove me out again. I just wish I knew enough Mikasa magic. Then i'd be powerful."

"OH zamagasakanu, you know that Madarakadalama is the TRUE Mikasa warrior!"

Dude, that made me actually laugh out loud. Cheers.

just life action their are bad movies/series

Pokemon, Digimon=ghey
Neon Genesis,Cowboy Bebop=great :D

Yeah, I hate anime. I dont see what all the fuss is about. One of my friends is a huge fan of that horrible Inuyasha show, I cant stand it.

I like anime alot, but not all of it. I only like the ones I personally think were unique to me. Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Srapped Princess, Chrono Crusade, Gundam 08th MS Team...stuff like that. Inuyasha is horrible, as is pokemon, and 90% of the other crap that is thrown out.

If you're looking for a good anime, a couple that you need to watch are Ninja Scroll and Akira. Those 2 are probably the biggest anime movies that you will ever hear about, and Ninja Scroll is what got me into Anime. Class A.

And granted, teh drawing isn't always teh best, the stories I find are great..well, on the good ones.

I hate most anime, even though I love reading manga. Most of the serialised stuff (anime) that gets pumped out is utter utter balls.

I LOVE anything that Miyazaki (Mononoke, etc) puts out, and Akira, even Ninja Scroll's cheesiness, whatever. But the thing is these big budget feature anime are the exception to the rule (and many of these feature films suck too). For every Princess Mononoke there are literally 1000 completely pants pieces of rubbish designed to get Japanese teenies and misguided Japanophiles fired up. I suppose that's no big surprise since it really is kid's media, but when you see how good anime can be compared to how bad it almost always is, it's really annoying.

I hate it for raping the original manga material too. I recently discovered an awesome manga about ninja called Basilisk, and I thought I might check out the anime out of curiosity, since lots of chickens seemed to be clucking about it on anime forums. My god was I ever sorry I did. It was piss poor. I skipped ahead to where my favourite character turned up and waited until he spoke, then lurched forward and had to quickly close the window. It wasn't even the US dub - these were the Japanese voices and they still sucked. I'm sorry I watched any of it, it nearly spoiled my idea of the manga version.

PokEmon Ftw :O:O !!!! well .... it was when i was like 9/10 lol

I think anime is beautifull drawn, I especially like the way they almost always draw shadows on the figures, which gives them dept and just makes the atmosphere better.

But I do not like most anime's, cause IMO most have really really bad dialog and horrible acting, I especially get annoyed by extreme shy chararcter who always just have to overreact and make annoying sounds, and no matter what always seem to run and do stupid things. I also do not enjoy the exxesive violance, it just ruins it for me. I like action and all, but I dot need t osee 50 people blown up with guts and blood everywhere in 10 minut timeframe.

But some of them do shine, with not only having good stories, but also good underlining themes, that gives them depth and lets them rise above most cartoons in the east and west.

As with movies 90% of anime is pure shit, you just have to find that good 10%.

QFMFT.
There are some unbelievably fantastic movies in there, but so many other movies and TV shows that are such crap that its no wonder so many people hate the form. Sifting through the waste is not for everyone, but everyone who takes the time to gets a great reward....

You are inferior to me if you like anime, fact.

Oh boy thats like pouring petrol in a volcano :D

Well, I used to be rather heavily into anime. Then after a while I just kind of stopped watching it. Bebop was good, and Trigun, and a few others I used to watch, but now I'm all meh.

If they listen to it with English voices then they must be noobcakes.

The Japanese voice are mostly great.

QFTMFT... if you're not watching it subbed, with the original Japanese voices, then you might as well not even be watching it at all.

Also, whoever said it doesn;t look that great hasn't seen Ghost in the Shell: Innocence, or Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door

English voices generally suck because people who hate anime (like TV and Hollywood executives) think it's just for kids. I voted 'awesome' in the same way that if you had said 'action films!' I would have voted 'awesome'. As I never seem to tire of repeating, it's as stupid to say 'anime sucks' as it is to obsess over every single anime that comes out just because it's an anime and not depending on whether it's any good or not.

Ha, I saw an advert for that and thought "They can't be serious. They must be taking the piss."

Neon Genesis Evangelion FOR THE WIN!!!

That's like saying are games fun or crap. It varies, there's good ones and bad ones.

I don't watch anime, but I think certain anime have a certain cool style to it.

It would be more like saying are RTS or FPS crap? Because anime is a specific type of cartoon.

Anime is crap, their plots are always so far fetched and unbelievable not to mention they break the laws of physics many times over in the shows with really stupid flying and shooting energy out of their eyes and if that wasn't bad enough the dialogue makes you wonder if the human race will live out the next decade. Then the drawings are so over exagurated I spend most of the time wonder WTF were they thinking when they drew that because it looks so un proportionate I wonder how anyone can buy into that garbage.

FPS games are crap, their plots are always so far fetched and unbelievable not to mention they break the laws of physics many times over in the games with really stupid carrying-fifty-weapons and superpowers and crap ragdolls and if that wasn't bad enough the plots are pedestrian and stupid and the dialogue makes you wonder if Steven Segall with a script written by George Bush is going to take over the world for the next decade. Then the graphics are so over-shiny I spend most of the time wonder WTF they were thinking when they rendered that because it looks like they covered it in plastic I wonder how anyone can buy into that garbage.

No, because RTS and FPS are types of genre rather than simply an arbitrary classification based on culture of its originiation. It's more like saying "All Japanese Games are crap".

People who stick anime into its own little genre are either entirely ignorant of anime, or they're hardcore anime fans who like to feel like they've found some kind of niche. It's useless to talk about "Anime". What relationship has "Only Yesterday" got with "Tenchi in Tokyo"? "Paranoia Agent" with "Fruits Basket"? "Cowboy Bebop" with "Ojamajo Doremi"? Only their region of origin. It's hard to draw parallels with western shows, because animation simply isn't employed for mature audiences. And even when it is, it's rare that the program will be serious in any way. But it's kind of like lumping "Doug", "Arthur" and "Mona the Vampire" in with "the Simpsons", "Futurama" and "Family Guy". What does it achieve, other than a small-minded view that allows people to dismiss something as a pile of shit? (A POS that they're too lazy to sort through to find the good bits anyway).

Oh and all Fantasy genre plots are sh*t. It's just that English VAs magnify the effect 40,000 times. Tell your friend to get some taste and watch programmes with subs. Means you don't have to understand what people are saying, and he can accuse you of being racist if it irritates you :P

So by putting the japanese back in and adding subtitles makes anime look better and the story believable and dialogue better written?

That is Flawed Logic to say the least. FPS and RTS are Genres. Anime is not a Genre. Analogies don't work unless there is some semblance of a similarity. Saying something is a "type" of something else is about as inspecific and vague as you can get. Genres are very specific things.

Look better? Of course not. Except in extreme cases where anime has guns, blood-spurts and stuff digitally replaced because of censorship. More believable story? Only really applies to the extreme cases again, where shows are butchered for censorship and the flow of story suffers. Better Dialogue? Absolutely. Bad VA work can come tandem with bad translation work. Anyways, I never suggested it was a "cure all" for bad anime. Bad anime is still bad anime. Watching the japanese track just brings out a better side to almost all anime.

So I still haven't gotten an answer why putting the japanese speach back in and adding subtitles will fix anything. All you have said was how it could fix things when someone has screwed up. Besides...those subtitles could also be translated wrong. Doesn't make finding the mystical orb of rinji held by the mystical otakuniki which is the most deadly thing to have ever lived to save the world and the main character is an emo 12 yr old who sucks and screws everything up until he is pushed face first into a portal that popped out of his hamburger where he finds the magical dragon and energy shoots out of his ass for no reason and he saves the day/world. Still a shitty plot, japanese or english.

I like only 1 anime show now and I have to say that most of it does not impress me with plot or anything. Every "plot" all the naysayers have brought up or made up as a silly joke sound completely off-base and not anywhere close to any plot that I've even HEARD of for an anime.

I just think everybody here that says "all anime sucks" :

A. Doesn't know what they're talking about
B. Has seen bits of english-dubbed anime and thought it sucked and decided that generalizations are the way to go
C. Haven't actually sat down and even watched any series from the beginning
D. All of the above

Sure there might be a few of you that have actually seen quite a bit of anime and actually don't like it...but I bet 90% of you have hardly given it a chance.

The reason I mentioned english-dubbed anime is because it IS a big factor. When I first was exposed to anime it was on toonami or some other show on cartoon network and I thought it sucked. Why? Almost all of the anime that gets licensed and shown in the US or other another county's programming sucks to begin with and is portrayed for kids. I have yet to watch an anime that is on tv in english.

The only anime I watch is One Piece. It started playing on toonami sometime recently and I can't stand watching this show on tv. I hate the casting they did for the english voices and it totally ruins it for me. The dialogue is different and it's not even close to as funny as it is in its original form in Japan. I watched parts of some episodes and I stopped then and there. This is a show I've seen 252 episodes of and I still can't get enough of it.

What I've gathered from lots of anime shows (I have a bunch of friends back home that watch tons of anime) is you really have to get into them from the beginning because the good shows portray great developing characters and sweeping plot arcs with great unpredictable twists.

I wouldnt say I have seen a lot of anime, but I have watched plenty and disliked all that I have watched. I can't stand the way it is all drawn. That is the main thing that bothers me. THe giant eyes, the odd colored and huge stranded hair. Their mouths that are super small when closed and incredibly huge when open. The flying through the air scenes. I can't stand any of it. Not to mention I haven't found 1 story line that hasn't been complete BS that is so far fetched you couldn't come up with it if your not on drugs. Don't expect to change my opinion...you may like it but I hate anime.

I'm not out to convert people to anime fans. I'm hardly a fan myself. It's just the generalizations about it that's just plain stupid.

From what I have witnessed, around school.. and my cousin espescially... my very very close cousin who was basically my closest and best friend for about 8 years. I have seen this transformation of a hardcore anime fan... the decline in socialization and 'regularity' is horrific.

Not too much anime is good though, I watch a little bit.
