Announcement of new Battlefield game this Friday

The small player karkland was pretty tiny, I hope they use the 32 player versions.

Play for free games are always cool at first but suffer from the same crap. They're always succeptible to hackers and never seem to have any sort of protection added no matter how terrible it gets. They always end up having some game breaking thing implemented to purchase via the ever present micro transaction situation. They seem to be taken over by non-English-speaking gamers from around the world within a few months. And finally, they end up with an utter lack of content that is "free."

I might try it - but I doubt it would take any precedence over something like BF Vietnam.

none of those things are true of the dev's other free to play game Battlefield Heroes. the only problem I see is that like BFH they'll eventually add in weapons that are better than default for a price.

Actually many of them are. Several times in the time I played it - hackers made the game unplayable. Most of the servers I ended up on were dominated by Portugese speaking Brazilians (when did they become a gaming power?) and the only content they managed to provide in the time I actually paid any attention was more retarded costumes that you had to buy.

However, it is true that none of the purchasable items were gamebreaking for those that didn't have them.

they havent. there is no lobby to find servers so people will join servers by ip. so that brazilian server was probably one hosted in brazil

you could also buy better guns either through currency you earn in game or with real money. the best weapons cost real money

Battlefield: Bad Company 3: 2143: Vietnam: Mission Pack 2. 8 players per map, now with microtransactions and 30$ subscription fee every week. Console exclusive.

Dice (COUGH EA COUGH) died a long time ago, i wouldnt expect any better than this.
I still want my Mirror's Edge 2.

When I joined servers there was no criteria to set. I may have been able to join by IP but what IPs do I know? Seemed like everyone just auto joined servers. All too often there was very little English speaking going on. I mean yeah I could learn Portugese but.... I won't.

And if you could "Buy the best guns" then maybe they did have a game breaking situation going on. When I played thee were no guns to be bought with real money. In fact there weren't many guns at all. Just a few iterations the types available.

The point of all of this is that the primary focus is to make money through transactions since the game is free. So the hosting will be kept as limited as possible to save money and the game itself will try to produce every possible incentive to get money from you. Your playing without buying anything only costs money unless the game it littered with advertisements. That's why so many free to play games come and go without ever really making a mark. They have limited free content but they are FREE so people flock to them. Then after a few months they've experienced all of the free shit... a handful of them buy things and keep playing and the rest move on. I have a good feeling I will be in the boat with the people leaving unless it's just a really spectacular setup worth a bit of my cash. I figure it will fall in line with the rest though.

ya you just join random servers. there's no lobby

I was in beta from the beginning to release. they've always had paid guns but you could also pay for those guns with the money you earned in game; which last a month. you could buy those same guns with real money permanently. you could get away with just purchasing those games you earned in game without ever having to use real money. shortly after official release they added guns that are slightly better but that you can only buy with real world money

The point of all of this is that the primary focus is to make money through transactions since the game is free.

in the case of Battlefield Heroes you could potentially pay 10 times as much as you would for say a traditional mp game like tf2. you can quickly spend $20 on an outfit for one of your toons (you have 4 slots for different classes) ..outfit all 4 (cant share amongst toons ) and it's up to $80. add guns and few clothing items and you're easily spending > $100. mind you, you really dont have to spend a dime however you'll look generic and have generic weapons meaning you will die often till you have leveled your skills

the game is fun but the price gouging for items and the weapons for money thing kinda turned me off

Hmm, could be good. Was expecting something far more eye-rolling.

Oh well, I'll settle for the title.

I had the same thoughts. The name is stupid as hell, really bad. But the game could be decent.

Stupidly corny trailer that tries to make it seem way more cool than it actually is.
This will go the same route as BFH and become an extremely unbalanced microtransaction rental item wankfest.

Trailers are usually guilty of this.

I am, however, also skeptical.

I'm not impressed with this announcement. Also, Battlefield Play4Free? More like Assets Repurposed.
