I was reading the Nine Inch Nails community over at greatestjournal, and one of the people found some lyrics by a christian rock band called Calibretto 13.

Puppet
by Calibretto 13

I turn on the TV, and what do I see?
Murder, and violence, and pornography.
I turn on the radio, and it brings me to tears.
All of the lies fed to the ears.
A Hollywood puppet you are.
If you can be sleazy you'll be a star.
You're the devil's puppet hanging on a string.
Dear Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails.
You say God is dead and we're all going to Hell.
Well I got something to say. He's alive today,
And he loves you so, and he wants you to know
You're killing the kids. They're following you.
You're feeding them lies. Cuz that's what you do.
You're the devil's puppet hanging on a string.

Go to L.A. Go to New York City.
Hearts have grown cold, oh what a pity.
Sex without love and self-respect gone.
Drink yourself to death and party till dawn.
You say I'm fanatical 'cause I try to live right.
Pleasing to God, Holy in His sight.
Well I know someone that you don't know.
His name is Jesus and He loves you so.
And He wants you to know.
People today are looking for something
To chase away that empty nothing.
They don't want God, they push Him away.
They say they'll find him some other day.
So they look to drugs, they look to a psychic,
Looking for something, but they'll never find it.
You're the devil's puppet hanging on a string.

That song sort of makes me want to reach down my throat, rip out my spleen, and squeeze it out on them.

How old is this song? Reznor hasn't made anything in 5 years... what followers? The only people still interested in nin are the ones that have always listened to them over the past 15 years.

Christians need to quit making music. And this guy should have his church burned down. With him in it.

heh, that be hilarious

/me walks off muttering bad words under his breath

He's currently working on a Nine Inch Nails album.

Are you sure it was a song? Are you sure it wasn't... nothing?

That sounds like a cross between Zack de la Rocha of Rage Against the Machine (I turn on the radio, and it brings me to tears. All of the lies fed to the ears. Thats how you got a f*cking bullet in your head!) and errrr... the Pope?

nah, Rage was good... this is shit.

Sorry, i don't really get into any lyrics where they express political/ personal opinions. I would like Rage and System of a DOwn a lot more if they kept their political activity outside their songs. I am glad they are involved in other ways than music, but I hate hearing it mixed.

there's a difference between a christian band, and a band on a christian label or with christian members. there are many, many bands out there labeled as 'christian' that have a lot of musical talent and some great songs. and just because they're christian doesnt mean that they have a message in their lyrics. thats the difference, imo.

Haha, joke's on him!
God's not dead because he never existed. :p

And I, for one, am sick of christians saying "God loves you despite your evil ways".
Who is that going to convince?

Reznor: God is dead, and no one cares! If there is a hell, I'll see you there!

Lame christian guy: Well, uh, god loves you and you're the devil. Now do what exactly what god says!

Reznor: Well, shit! I guess god is real after all. I repent!

It's not going to happen.
All it could accomplish is to make other christians nod their head in approval, and murmer to each other:
"Yes, our god is truly benevolent, to the point that it makes no sense to mortal man. Such is god's power!
We certainly are holier than thou because we can claim to love things even though we don't actually love them."

Who cares, this band and NIN both suck. (except for Deep, that is one kickarse song)

Heh, I find it pretty funny that a lot of NIN-fanatics hate that song. :p

i find NIN fanatics funny... c'mon people, it's just poetry (some of it good, some of it just dreadful) but to mostly really poor music (which i call noise) espcially songs like Star****ers inc and Where is everybody?... .

...I like those songs... :x not really Trent at his best, I'll give you that...

1.) Nine Inch Nails pwnz u

2.) Deep is not his best effort.

3.) Star****ers is good.

4.) Calibretto 13 misinteprets "Heresy".

5.) Tell me, what kind of lies is Trent Reznor feeding the children when he sings about how depressed he is?

6.) What does Nine Inch Nails have to do with the devil?

7.) You're brainwashing the kids. They're... Wait, no you aren't. Because nobody's ever going to listen to your stupid shit.

Good day.

Ok I had to make an account just to respond to this thread. I love Nine Inch Nails as much as the next person, but must say that I agree with the positive message the song is trying to convey. And even I must admit that I can see how listening to a few of Reznor's lyrics would give a reason for some over-assuming Christian to think this way about him. The flaw in his logic is that he's mixing up his cause and effect, just like the rest of the ignorant masses. Same shit happened with Columbine and Manson. What people need to get straight is this -- MUSIC is not the CAUSE of society's degradation, but rather it is a RESPONSE to it. No one listens to music to do what it says, but rather to say, "hey, yeah I feel that way too." It's poetry; an art, a response. I'll tell you what the real problem is - it's all the unbelievably vain shit people buy into nowadays, and how heartless they are when they treat anyone who doesn't buy into it like dirt on their shoe. Magazines are just full of pressure about your appearance, sex tips, tabloids... you name it. They're basically a guide on everything the media thinks you care about, and so you care about it, thinking that you're pleasing everyone around you by fitting in better... but really everyone becomes more out of touch with each other. Tv, with all those paparazzi bastards prying into movie/pop star's private lives, exposing their dirty secrets, giving the ignorant idiots who care about them the message that "hey, guess what guys? It's ok to get pregnant at 13. It's ok to do drugs when you're raising children. It's ok to be a stuck-up asshole and a complete **** up in every sense of the word." These movie stars are like this because they have so much attention on them ALL THE TIME... I mean, I'm sure anyone would go just a little bit crazy. And then the dumbasses that pay attention to them think that's how you should be. I just don't get it. THIS is why I'm disappointed in humanity. This is why public school is hell for people who refuse to adhere to stupidity and put on a play for popularity points in order to fit in. THIS is why all these musicians sing about how cold the world is and how lonely they feel, so maybe everyone else that feels this way can listen to their words and find some condolence in the fact that somebody else in this disgusting world thinks and feels like that too. THAT's why people listen to this kind of music. Because it's not the reason - it's the response that millions agree with.

Epic three and a half year bump of a thread I totally didn't remember posting. Before anyone goes screaming THREAD NECRO bear in mind this is a legitimate one because it was on topic.

Well spoken BluePhoenix.

O shit I didn't even see how long ago that was written. I figured it was a while ago because of those posts that said NIN didn't put anything out for a while, but man. That is an epic bump. Lol I just did some google search and this thread came up so... *shrug*

thanks for the props, glad you agree :D

My suicide note is just going to be a link to this thread and the word "Acepilot".

Christian Rock Song Lyrics always = lol's from cheesiness.

P.S.- What is your new Avatar of Ennui?

Anton Chigurh, No Country For Old Men.

But actually it's just Javier Bardem.

I like a lot of Calibretto's stuff, and they're sometimes really confusing in their christian-ness. Listen to their "From me to you" song, its pretty anti-religious sounding to me. Also Christian Hate Mail is pretty much anti-christian.

You can find From me to You on myspace here: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=76117281

A lot of their songs are pretty funny too. Like The Apple Song, Merry Fricken Christmas.

But by far their best song imo is "Dont go into the Woods." I think it was released when they dropped the 13 from their name and just became Calibretto.

EDIT: Heres a super shitty youtube version of it. But download the actual song, because this makes his voice sound really shaky and awful which it isnt. He also doesnt scream so much in the non-live version.

I'm sure Trent would have appreciated my bullet-pointed defense against a dumb song.

Christian bands have awesome music. Better then a lot of other bands music imo.

Aye, I sometimes turn on the christian rock station and just pretend that they're singing about girls instead of Jesus. Some christian rock is actually pretty good music.

It's a shame they have to waste such talent.

Holy shit bump

By the way, just read my post on the first page and I'd like to change my opinion on NIN, they are quite awesome

I was reading through the thread and saw your post; "I thought Dala liked NIN..." Then I saw the date on the posts.
