I know you guys must get a lot of these, but I used the search and haven't come up with anything yet.
G-Man says he sells Gordon's contract... clearly, the contract expired at the end of Half-Life 2, and the Vortiguants had to free Gordon for Episode One. In Episode Two, G-Man makes it clear he has personal purposes for aiding Gordon and Alyx. But the G-Man says himself that he won't give Gordon the "illusion of free choice."
Now, Gordon Freeman's name is an eponym. The Vortiguants call him the "one free man." For G-Man to decide everything for him... that wouldn't be very free, would it? And Vortiguants clearly can interact on G-Man's plane. Yet they still call him "the Freeman" and such.
To me, there'll be an inevitable showdown between G-Man and Gordon Freeman. Freeman's story is fighting against control, yet he is controlled by a higher being. People who understand the G-Man even think Gordon is "free."
What do you guys think?
