The readers of the leading finnish gaming magazine, Pelit, have voted HL2 as the game of the year and the best PC game of the year. The magazine's internal voting also resulted in HL2 being the GOTY.

It's notable that the 2nd best game of the year, Halo 2, reaped only a third of the votes that HL2 got..! Can anyone say "owned"?

Here are the top four games of the year:

1.) Half-Life 2 - 1124 votes
2.) Halo 2 - 395
3.) Rome: Total War - 326
4.) Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - 319

The total number of votes was about 16000.

If anyone can be bothered, I or some other finnish bloke might later post the complete results for the awards.

Hahaha, once again, VALVe did it. :)

Yay. -_-

Well at least Halo 2 got what it deserved

Everyone is at least recognizing a good game :)

I had the urge to finish HL2... With Halo2 I had no urge to finish it...

May the HL saga live forever!!!! :D Die, Master Chief!!! :sniper:

I'm surprised Halo got more votes than GTA. GTA is far better.
Halo 1 had better levels than Halo 2 and the brutes in Halo 2 are just spazticatedly made, they're just stupid enemies with big guns and too much health.

I think Halo 1 could have been really super good if there had been more outdoor environments, especially on the green fields. The beinning of the game was incredible, but then it got repetitive. I think it's still a very good game

we need someone to count the GOTY awards HL2 got

Pft i am not counting, I've got things to do. It will take some time haha, but hey I don't blame anyone. Except Valve for making such a good game :)

in my opinion, GTA SA>Halo 2 > Half-life 2

Hl2 is only good for the multiplayer.

No way.
HL2>GTA>Deus Ex=Halo 1>Halo 2
HL2 has more lifespan than all of the others because there will be an infinate flow of mods until HL3

Nice. I was wondering what game Pelit would choose, because im not a subscriber :p If Mikrobitti, probably the biggest computer magazine in Finland, would still give GOTY awards, im pretty certain it would go to HL2.
How many awards are there so far? ~30 or something?

The vote amounts gave me a good laugh.

Well, when considered there's only 5.25 million of Finns that's a big number - heck, I'll even do some funny math for you!

Pelit magazine has 156 000 readers. This means that ~0.29 per cent of Finns actually read the magazine. 16 000 votes is about 42% of all that people.

To compare, PC Gamer has circulation of 309 460 (year 2003, according to this site - quick Googling didn't give me any newer numbers). There's about 293 027 571 US people who all are just as potential readers of that "strictly about games" magazine. This means that only about one per mille (that's one tenth of a per cent) reads PC Gamer.

So to summarize, when the number are normalized to population differences, Pelit magazine has about 3 times more readers than PC Gamer. Our equivalent of the US PC World has even bigger numbers so I wouldn't laugh just because something seems small since things may backfire really easily when compared in apples-to-apples manner :)
