Another HL2 Multiplayer?

damn you! i was just about to post this. seems interesting.
 
Ive been thinking about the possibility of a big steam distributed surprise for a while, but i doubt it, its always good to have the possibility floating around mind. :D
 
i was never a huge DM fan, but this really cheers me up :]
 
There's going to be a special treat near launch or soon after for those who are upset that Counter-Strike Source is the only multiplayer offered out of the box. I'd hate to ruin the surprise but let's just say traditionalists will be happy even if it's just one map at first. Physics Cannon!

There was also a rumour that some higher up from Valve posted a message that Half Life 2 would include extra multiplayer modes other than CS:Source, which was later deleted. Can anyone here confirm this?

This sure adds a little more credibility to that earlier rumour.
 
I honestly would not be surprised if it was true, and would be amazed if it weren't.

That link from IGN originally came from here and it was a joke from Chris_D - it's not to be taken seriously at all.
 
Stupid question, but who's Chris_D, and perhaps he was just joking about joking as to not ruin the surprise. Meh, I can still hope can't I? Probably just setting myself up for a major disappointment though...

The bigger news here anyway, if its true is this. "pre-order numbers (two million plus for Steam, allegedly)"... wow.
 
Hmm could be Ricochet : Source with gravity gun. Wouldn't take long to convert.
 
If its true that would be a nice surprise. What I don't get is why they did not tell us. I mean it would only help their sales.

I doubt that two million means two million actual orders. That would be insane for a PC Game - and even more insane that all of them would be paying to download it off the internet. Maybe he meant two million dollars, which would mean 40,000 orders have already been placed, a number I find far more believable. Not that exciting really considering how much they already spent making this game.

Did you not read the News.com article? Although it didn't say how much money was made, it has been preloaded onto 2 million computers. Chances are those people will eventually buy it.

If there was a MP component, would it have to DL through steam or would it come with the game? Because I am buying retail, and I will be pissed if the "suprise" MP component is only for people who ordered through steam.

You guys understand that the reason all these "HL2 DM" threads are being closed (or at least that one) is cause the mods don't want the truth to get out! every high-up VALVe official or staff member of every board i've been to has said there is no DM, end of discussion. seems a little too foward for me. Do you really think VALVe wouldn't release some MP component besides CS:S. think about it. VALVe is all about suprises so they're keepin it top secret. :cool:

anyway i am now over the no HL2 themed MP deal so i mean if it happens that there is an MP just for HL2, great.
if not.. i have already gotten angry and pulled a few hairs.. im done with that now.. :p

Considering the community reaction to no HL2 themed multiplayer, I wouldn't be surprised if Valve started putting something together once they'd completed HL2. It's possible. With that said, though, rumors like these have come from credible sources before, and turned out to be completely untrue, so I'm not expecting anything.
