To people who don't live there.

Do you find a lot of anti-Americanism in your general talk with people at work, friends, on the train etc etc?

I find it everywhere.

Common themes are

-Americans are all retarded
-Everyone is perplexed at how GWB became president
-To solve the worlds food shortage issues, all Americans must be destroyed?
-No wonder they got attacked during September 11th, they screw with dozens then when they're finally attacked Americans stand around gawking "what did we do to them?"?
-They helped Saddam fight Iran when it was convenient. When it wasn't convenient they ousted him? Retarded?
-Sarah Palin...How...what..why...how?

It goes on and on. Then of course everyone watches all the American TV shows and consumes their products on a daily basis feeding the great empire.

well yes to the stuff about sarah palin and george bush, they're both idiots, but theyre the only things on that list that are true and that u can complain about, all the stuff about the americans being fat retarded idiots is bull***t man, and im from the UK so im not like, prejudiced or something.

this thread was just made to piss off people, close please.

I just want to see if i'm experiencing a strange minority of people or if other people see this everywhere.

Yeah, though ofc it's not so much hate as exasperation.

Also: Palin = wtf guys.

Yes people in bosnia are pissed at americans because they are using the weapons of mass destruction excuse to steal middle-eastern fuel.and they think that dubya is a douche

ok...i will be the smarter man and walk away...

Sure you don't wanna genocide me instead?
You drunken slappers are so good at it.

Yeah it's a fairly common view here. If America is brought up in conversation there will usually be some negative talk about it. Sorry guys.

America worked hard for it in the past twenty years. Now you get to reap the rewards.

I find it everywhere.

Common themes are

-Americans are all retarded - based on 2004 election, roughly 51% are. I apologise to the 49% that arn't, the world knows you're outnumbered. True.

-Everyone is perplexed at how GWB became president - can you blame us? The man is an idiot. True.

-To solve the worlds food shortage issues, all Americans must be destroyed? False. A fairly stupid way of thinking, only takes a signle (dubious) factor into account. False.

-No wonder they got attacked during September 11th, they screw with dozens then when they're finally attacked Americans stand around gawking "what did we do to them?"? -Well, what did they expect? True.

-They helped Saddam fight Iran when it was convenient. When it wasn't convenient they ousted him? Retarded? True.

Most of that isn't hatred, it's simply facepalm material. :p

A lot of people here do it.

Common critique:
- The death penalty
- Guantanamo
- Iraq War and American foreign policy in general
- Too religious
- Too stupid
- Shitty president
- Irresponsible climate policy
- High poverty rate
- Shitty health care

Out of all these I'd say it's the death penalty that unites everyone in their criticism of the US.

Pretty much none here when it comes to the "real" population. It seems only the cool internet kids are anti-American.
Everyone is perplexed at how GWB became president

This is pretty common though, but how any sane person could have a reason to hate Americans is beyond me.

What I'm talking about is pure hatred which is seen regularly on the 'net, not criticism, which is not hard to find among even Americans themselves nowadays.

-To solve the worlds food shortage issues, all Americans must be destroyed?

Obviously. I mean, why wouldn't destroying the World's second largest exporter of food (second only to Europe) solve a food shortage?

All my non american friends doesnt like America, neither do my American friends either. Its almost like its common sense not to like america, everyone takes it for granted. You can say anything insulting about america anywhere and expect everyone to agree and laugh even if you dont know them.

Unfortunately we are probably deserving of most of it. If any of you guys come over here and don't want to get pissed...stay in New England (well, maryland and above really, they're the states that always vote for the democrat) or the west coast. The political climate in those places is agreeable.

Can't wait to move out of this country.

Out of curiosity, would you guys consider us electing Obama as a form of 'redemption' for us?

there is quite alot of anti america crap in the UK but i think it comes down to we were fighting fascism for 2 years while America was on a fag break.

but tbh i have nothing against America they are force to be reckoned with and i for one would rather be allies than enemys :)

Well I live in America and there's lots of anti-American sentiment...at least by Democrats.

Not redemption. A step in the right direction to fix your ship.

While it's a weird and patronising concept that an entire nation should need to 'redeem' themselves... in a way it would.

It's not that Obama is the second coming or anything, nor do I think that there's much more than a 50% chance of an Obama presidency being a successful one. To a degree, how good a president he would be is a separate issue. It's more the fact that Obama's election would show an effort on the part of most of the electorate to ditch the deep-rooted prejudices of the past, to ditch the all the political negativity of recent years, all the disdain for logic and rational argument that has characterised the Bush years as well as McCain's campaign...

In one respect, it would be nice just to see a black man get elected. For the first time I can remember, I think the rest of the world would be able to look to the racial equality represented by an Obama presidency and say 'that's something we haven't managed yet, that we can aspire to.'

But while on the whole it would be a triumph defined solely in terms of race relations, it would also be a sorely needed display of political perceptiveness on the part of your nation. We all know that it's going to be McCain or Obama who gets in, so let's leave independents and small-timers aside for a moment: can any rational person honestly say that McCain looks like he would be the better choice? Someone who offers more of the same irresponsible economic policy that has poisoned world markets and landed us in the biggest financial crisis in centuries? Someone who has selected as his VP choice the most outrageously stupid politician many people have ever seen? Someone who insults the intelligence of the entire nation and stokes the fires of prejudice by insinuating that his rival - a sitting senator - is a terrorist? Someone whose core base of support consists of a bunch of religious fundamentalists and intransigents who believe anyone who displays too much intelligence is an 'elitist'?

'Redemption' is a bit of a patronising way of putting it, but the fact is that an America that answers 'No, I guess McCain really doesn't deserve to get in' is an America I like much better than the America that's been knocking around for the past 8 years or so.

It's the cool thing to do to hate America. Yet, people from other countries would give their left eye to live here. I'm very grateful that my mother emigrated to America, else I'd be shoveling sh*t in some third world army, hoping I'd have enough food to eat to get through the day.

American is getting so much shit because the internet age has allowed everyone to see how antithetical it
is compared to the image it has for so long cultivated. The fact it's last president is a ****ing idiot with the
most blatant disregard for international relations in decades doesn't help it, that he has been elected twice
doesn't help at all. As does the fact it's the most powerful nation in the world who can bring us all down
economically and military back to the stone age intentionally or unintentionally.

It's actions have been the most destabilizing factor in the world for a while now, it's logical
that it's going to be a prime target, and it's one of the few things eurofags or whatever
can agree on.

Also **** the term term anti-americanism. I don't know the intention of the OP but I do
know the term is a really convenient and deceitful way to refer to the enormous amount
of different sentiments regarding American policies regardless if it's by jihadist who
actually do hate america as a whole or f*cks who have problems with the government
and it's policies.

And in the vast majority of cases it is used to refer to the latter, as most
criticism is in fact a condemnation of specific actions by the government, rather then the
nation and it's people as a whole, even if sometimes it is just shortened to america does
this or that. Logical seeing as it's taken for granted people will know it's just concerns the
governments actions.

Referring to it as anti-americanism makes it seem like it's irrational, like it's racism, so
you can brush it off more easily. Which I've seen plenty of Americans do.

So what? How the **** is the desirability to live in a nation even remotely connected to
criticism of it's (foreign)policies. Somehow lets say a nigerian is hypocritical if he is
dismayed by the invasion of Iraq, if he would rather live in the US that is.

You know what how about you ****ing marry the US if you like it so much you
intellectually impoverished ignorant bovine.

I would love to live in the US, since up until recently the dollar was so weak that I would have been doubling my money. The bottom falling out of the housing market also means that I could almost buy a house outright. Doesn't change my opinion of the government or it's supporters. In fact, since my reasons for wanting to live there are such, you could say that I want to live there solely because of certain shitty conditions. (but mainly its cuz my girlfrend is ther lul)

I'm American and I hate Americans just as much as I'd hate anyone who was a ****ing idiot.

You'd probably be a lot more popular without the Bible Belt tarnishing your image.

Honestly, you shoulda just let the south secede.

Fact is- most of the academic, middle-class American population is level-headed and intelligent. This is true in almost all developed nations. Education, and being in an academic environment, is key.

You're putting words in my mouth, while acting like a 5 year old. You can criticize American policies all you want, I could care less. But to see some people hate, curse, and spit on America is very disheartening to me.

By the way, it's funny seeing you become flustered because of one sentence I wrote (which was all opinion, none-the-less). The last sentence you wrote makes me not want to take you seriously.

This. Which, unfortunately, is only about half of our population. The rest are the idiots who vote for the Republican no matter how horrible they are. LOL JESUS WROTE THE BIBLE

I think that in 30-40 years time when the seniors of the generation are gone, the world will be a much more accepting place. I'm not saying that the generation isn't now (hell, my 72 year old grandparents are voting Obama). But there will be a lot less bigoted and racist people. Just imagine today's generation of youth spreading into the future and being the vast majority. It'll be nothing but liberalism goodness.

And Gray Fox, stop acting like a little kid.

As an American I'd like to say I honestly don't give two shits what the world thinks of us. I like to worry about my own country and what it needs rather than focus on what the world thinks of us. I remember reading here in a different thread what is considered liberal here is conservative in Europe. I sincerely hope that doesn't change regardless of what the world thinks.

As arrogant as it may sound alot of the hate comes from the overwhelming success of the USA in the last century. It's easy to criticize those at the top. When our economy has issues it almost makes some people giddy and warm inside for some reason. Personally I think though our economy has encountered some major issues it will be a dominant force for years to come and as a result we will be hated intensely for many more years down the road.

People who think all American cops are out there to harm general society and overall douchebags is what ticks me off.

And isn't Jerry Springer the most exported American show? So to people in countries with limited television access, this is what they would get a picture of America being.
