Anti-gay arguments

1. Marriage is an institution between one man and one woman.
This is an argument against gay marriage, not homosexuality
2. Same-sex marriage would threaten the institution of marriage.
ditto
3. Same-sex couples aren't the optimum environment in which to raise children.
Also not an argument against homosexuality, and if they have a child, it means it is adopted. It would be hard to argue that 2 dads are worse than no dads.
4. Gay relationships are immoral.
Might work. What is immoral about them? Needs some sort of definition of morality
5. Homosexuality is a choice.
Not an argument against homosexuality

You have a lot of tangential issues here but no real arguments about why homosexuality is bad or should be discouraged.

Some arguments you could try to expand
  • Homosexuality doesn't procreate the specieis. We would die out if everyone is gay, so there is certainly an upper bound where more homosexuality is bad.
  • In recent history it has been unacceptable in our society. Changing norms always involves violence and upset.
  • Our bodies aren't designed for it, and it can open up new health problems.
  • Not having biological children motivates a person to be selfish, rather than acting for the good of society. Hedonistic DINKs (double income, no kids) are bad for society.

And for all you that are complaining that debating a side you disagree with is hard are totally missing the point. Your opinions should not influence the arguments, the arguments should influence your opinions. The arguments have to be based on fact, and arbitrarily picking a side allows you to open up your mind beyond your preconceived biases. If a position is truly unstable and untenable (and very few really are), then the result will come out in the wash. Think of arguing a concept as trying to push on a curtain or a membrane or something. If there is no resistance, you are just pushing your own ideas forward and living in a fantasy. When you have two sides pushing at a concept from different directions, you are better able to define the shape of the truth.

Party Planners can't possibly sustain the festivities that gays bring about. It will destroy our economy by sky rocketing demand such that nobody else can plan parties because all the streamers and balloons and body paint is used up.

I made the best anti-gay arguments in the first page but no one ever quoted them :(

Biologically, the imperative against gay sex is the destruction of natural procreation. However, gay rates are at about 6% of all males, so it's nothing to be worried about.

Socially, if we allow same-sex marriage, what else are people going to push for? Marriage between non-humans and humans? Inanimate objects and humans? Where does the line stop?

Of course, both these arguments are stupid as hell.

You're so intelligent FDR!

It's no wonder you were elected so many times!

I've had plenty of teachers make me do this sort of thing, although usually in my experience they ask you your opinion on a particular issue and then make you argue for the opposite side, rather than just randomly assign you one. There's plenty of reason to complain or whine or make some kind of scene about it, because I'll be damned if I'm going to argue against gay rights regardless of whether or not it's for some mental exercise. That's like asking students to argue in favor of slavery or against women's suffrage; very socially insensitive and in direct violation of my system of values. It's not the same as other common polarized issues like capital punishment or the like because while I can understand and even to some degree empathize with those who disagree with me on those issues, when it comes to gay rights there's no excuse for being a prejudiced ****tard.

Yes, I know the stands I make and those I pass can seem very arbitrary, but to me they aren't.

It's school. The point is they put you in positions that you might not be personally happy with in order to engage your brain. Despite not being a smoker I remember having to argue for smokers rights in a debate and it was quite insightful to look into and ponder the position. A series of Values are only worth something if they've actually been weighed and fully assessed. Otherwise they might as well be bumper stickers.

No one likes to be patronized :X

I was only joking around, buddy. You're my peshbuddy.

gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

They were good points to use, even though they are completely wrong.

Gays threaten this society by being differing from accepted social norms and therby destroying the very fabric of society. Of course, I do not care for private gayness, only public ones.

The state has no business in the bedrooms of its citizens. Unless it's sedition, or in any way destabilizes the public trust and welfare.
