Antlions in M player

think they could be used in M player? what restrictions if any do you foresee? if you can use them where will they come from? (vents? windows? a hole opens up in the floor?) will they just appear?

im curious as to what you guys think. discuss?
 
i guess they could be used. but i dunno how people could gain control of them. could be fun to mess with though.
 
could be the new and improved HL2 version of snarks :cheers: :cheers:
 
I could see something where each player starts off with a buch of ant lions of his own (from a hole I guess) and he can then used them to battle other players.
 
i can see an antlion wars mod. have like lion masters up in boxes in opposite sides of the map battling their antlions. would be cool.
 
itd have to be like a seperate type map from the normal mplayer me thinks..
 
i think that would be pretty damn fun. you could throw the phermone orbs where your lines are faltering or where you need more units...could be fun
 
i just thought of a scenario. It would suck if like a bunch a people had the antlions, it would just be one big antlion battle, not to much fun.

there'd have to be a way to balance it, like only one antlion per person, not a whole squad.

Back on topic. yea i reckon there will have to be some sort of restrictions in M player.

and how can you honestly say an ant lion battle wouldnt be fun? do you think valve would be stupid enough to make such a powerful weapon spawn all over the map? i figure it would be like the rocket launcher. harder then most guns to get. i figure the antlions will be like that. so a antlion battle wouldnt happen often but i think it would be fun to watch. be a great addition to m player i think
 
In the VU Forums, there was a post about a KOTH AntLion mod, where 1 person has control of a giant Anthill, and the others try to get up there and take control. Sounds like it'd be a lot of fun.

its my opinion that antlions would kill an enemy for you and therefore taking the fun out of killing an opponent

I think a starship troopers-esque scenarios would be pretty interesting.

Just imagine some guy with a lot of those antlion spores chucking those things at a group of other players. Then watch as a whole swarm converges on the players. Man, that'd be so cool.

Maybe someone should make a starship troopers mod.

Have a base, your team is in the base, and you are constantly bombarded with infinitely respawning bugs while you have 1 life. Survuve for x amount of minutes

Stop flaming and get back on topic. You should all be ashamed for acting like that. Just delete your flame/off-topic posts and be done with it.

Anyway, I don't like the idea of antlions in multiplayer. It's a weapon you don't have real control over. I think losing control reduces the amount of real competition (dumbs it down, you could say) and is the #1 producer of frustration and whining in online games. Everyone will be bitching and screaming about "AL whores" and "AL noobs" and I don't think that would be much fun. An antlion centered multiplayer mod could be fun though, just for some variety. I think for most multiplayer though, it wouldn't be a smart thing to add.

on topic I agree to an extent mrtea Snarks did the same thing in HL but you had even less control with them because you could not direct them after you initially let them loose. like you could with antlions. I thought it was enjoyable to use snarks in certain situations, dropping them on people from above...I'd never use them in a fight straight on....i think ant lions would have the same effect on gameplay. but who knows

Canadian things aren't as good as their U.S. counter-parts. I'm in Canada, but, I want to live in the U.S. They're pretty the most powerful country.

Antlions don't seem that stong, remember all the fun everyone had with snarks? well now the snarks are bigger and they don't explode. Conversely they are easier targets and not that strong.

I'm pretty sure that by the time people get to playing in multiplayer, single player would have turned them into antlion killing machines. Antlions would be used as throw away distractions, not all mighty killbots
