Oh it's on bitches!

A throwaway comment in the Last-Movie-You've-Seen thread ignited a miniscule argument, and, in fine hl2.net tradition, I have blown it out of proportion to create this thread.

Antz and A Bug's Life - two movies, both about the highly amusing anthropomorphosized exploits of insect societies, which, like Armageddon and Deep Impact, will forever be cemented in people's memories as competitors, despite both being genuinely great films (in this case anyway). So which will you chose? Vote for one or the other - there is no pansy 'both' option - and explain your reasons for doing so. Only one CG ant movie can emerge the victor.

Antz targets a bit older audience, so it has a bit more mature themes. I think I'll go with that one (although it was years since I saw either of the movies).

I liked Antz better, and I saw both when I was.... 8? 9? 10?

I think it was 9.

A Bug's Life. As much as I liked all the socio-political undertones of Antz, it just wasn't as good.

Antz, definitly. Although i did like that cute, little princess in A Bug's Life (I forget her name), the story, the animation, everything, was just so much better in Antz.

Voted for Antz, saw it again recently. I don't even remember A bug's life.

Bug's Life.

Mostly my age. Those maggots still scare me to shits.
Or were they Termites.

I can't remember either, really, but I'll vote antz because everybody else is doing it...

And to piss of Sulkdodds. :D

A Bugs Life. Easily. I liked Antz but it didn't have the charm that, to me, only Pixar seem to get be able to do succesfully with animated capers. Antz was a good watch but there's nothing really I remember about that stands out to me, whereas in Bugs Life there was the Clown Troupe, the grasshoppers, Flick, the Queen Mother, all of the usual Pixar small-role cast members on the side with humourous background roles (the two bugs at the insect lamp, most, if not all, of the bugs inside the tin can cafe...)

I dunno really, I just find it a more enjoyable watch.

A Bug's Life...
I thought Antz was just too boring and their faces creeped me out when I was a kid. :(

Plus, A Bug's Life has a lot more variety in their insects and it's so... colorful, Antz was somewhat bland and basically just not a memorable film at all.

Didn't vote. Never seen Antz.

I do remember A Bugs Life being one of the first major widely available DVDs so everyone I knew who had a DVD player in those early years had a copy.

I like A Bug's life better it had alot more color than pretty much brown. Also I really like the characters.

I've only seen A Bug's Life. The previews for Ants didn't interest me. Not as colorful as A Bug's Life. I thought A Bug's Life was a good pixar flim.

I never saw Antz so I didn't vote.

Antz. Was one of my favourite movies when I was younger. I actually remember having this exact argument back then as well. I always felt more of an emotional attachment towards the protagonist in Antz, even back then obnoxiously cute stuff pissed me off, so A Bug's Life, though good, never totally appealed. I also recall loving the score, can't at all remember how it went though. I still have it on DVD, so I may check it out.

Bugs Life, because the ants in Antz look stupid.

this is like asking what steaming pile of dog poo is more tasty.

the correct answer is both are rubbish.

A bugs life is the pixar movie i try to pretend never happened. . .

Over CARS?!

I like Antz better for the insect psychoanalysis, the amusingly explicit comparison to modern society, the absurd celebrity faces, the Termite war scene and ultimately the inspired Kafka-esque self-esteem issues that lead to Woody Allen as the voice of a cartoon ant.

Nevertheless, I simply cannot understand why such hate is being heaped upon A Bug's Life in this thread. For me the competition is very close. What on earth did John Lasseter ever do to you guys?

A Bug's Life is in the top 5 Pixar movies for me, I really don't understand the hate for it.

A Bug's Life of course for that fat gay caterpillar or whatever it was.

A Bugs Life was the first DVD I ever got (as a gift for xmas when it was released). I watched it like 3 times the day I got it.

A Bug's Life. Can't even remember anything that happened in Antz.

25 v 25 now.
I say AntZ, more mature and deep than A Bug's Life (great movie too), BTW does anyone remember A Bug's Life PS videogame, I loved that.

I don't remember anything about bugs life, but i have a vague memory of a big battle against termites in antz. Thats why it got my vote. Oh, and Sylvester Stallone.

They are rather close in the review's too:

Rotten Tomatoes
Bug's Life - 91%
Antz - 97%

Metacritic
Bug's Life - 77
Antz - 72

Antz because of the incredily bad ass battle. Both are pretty good.
