Any CS:S 56kers? out there? besides me?

I just want to know if any 56k people play cs:s when i play all th e time with it, acually i have 28.8k, but i never see any one else. So if u have 56k and play add me to your steam list or aim or xfire, all id's for them are NonStopableForce, i am online all the time even though i have dial up so send me a ring because i like cs:s, and i am unable to get cable.

you should check out out DSL of Sattalite or get a band of people in your community and send a formal request to the cable company to put the lines in if you have enough people theyll do it

I feel your pain. I live in rural england and know what its like to be stuck on a 56k line. Still CS:S to me seems playable except on bad days when it slows to a crawl . If you must have broadband try and get satalite, Sadly out of the question for me (bloody Grade 2 listed cottage *mutters*).

There's a lot of people - just press tab while playing and if their latency is more than 200 then they are 56K - As long as your latency is less than 300 then it's playable.

So if my latency is 280-300 can they pop out and shoot me before I even see em? Or do I just suck. But I don't suck, so don't say that. Or you could just tell me what exactly 'latency' means, technically speaking.

Obviously the people with a latency of 40 (about as low as i've seen) have some advantage but i've seen people on 56K including myself be the best in a match, with people on or around 40latency playing at the same time (and i'm new to CSS too). If u stay under 300 - no you wont die without seeing them and you do have a good chance of putting them down before you die (the next guy will be harder though)

sigh... I remember back in 1999 playing TFC online with my dial up, I had pings around 200~220 so it was fairly good, plus I owned a lot of people in snipers with my lag shot and they thought I was hacking

To be honest.. AOL is just as good connection on DSL as any other.. It's prolly gonna sound noob but Aol actually isn't as bad as people say.

I've only been playing a few weeks but i have developed some skill (still long way to go). I think i will need something better than 56K at some point.
I should have taken the shot a few seconds earlier when i was on top. This is at the end of a game i played today (and yes i know there are millions of people better than me out there).

I would think 56kers would have some advantage. I have had many high ping people lagamorph on me.. very aggrevating..

Yeah i know, 56k is ok, the only thing i dont really get is server admins, when i go in there game they see my high ping, and they say, fix you ping or u will be kicked.

With 56k, when they go into servers, nowadays they use so little bandwidth, they don't affect the server. They don't make people with dsl, or cable modem lag.....

With 56k there isn't much advatages, when people with dsl, or cable modem shoot they will always shoot first, because there ping is lower, so the server will notice their mouse click first, because their ping is 2-3 times faster than 56k.


I have found out that with 56k that when u shoot like say 5 times, and u die, u acuallly only shot like 2 times, because of the ping, so always be on you game, and ready for anything.

what i hate is when i am getting shot when i am by a corner so i go and try to get behind it and i make it, but with my ping around 200ms, my guy on the server end is not around the corner, and they shoot me and on my pc, i lagg back and die..



Oh yeah, if u have 56k mess around with the rate commands, like cl_rate and cl_updaterate.

I have mine at
cl_rate 1000
cl_updaterate 10

^the update rate is how many times it updates a second, normally it is 20, the lower the lower ping u will have, most server have it so 10 is the lowest u can go. but u may notice things getitng a little jerkyer, when people move, but i got use to it, it helped when i shot, so the bullets registered quicker, if u know what i mean.

seriously though, i feel your pain...i used to play the original CS on a 56k and was really annoyed at getting lag-killed. good luck in finding a good broadband isp.

Yeah, i hate being lag-killed, it suck, because there is nothing i can do about it.

And thanks for the luck, i found one, but it is 35 bucks a month (its the only thing that they have in my town, no dsl, or cable modem will come to out to me), and my parents say that i need a job before i can get it, because they won't pay for it, but i am going to get it anyways.

bro, i got 56k and it sucks for me, i cant play in any css sever, local city servers i got like 900 ping, when i refresh my list for the first time, its saus that servers are like 200+ ping, but then when i refresh again, its pauses then its says 2000 ping, is really shitting me, i need to get adsl and fast!

Acually i connect at 28.8k i live in the country side of my city, with crappy phone lines, and i can't get dsl, or a cable modem, they dont come out this far, i found this one kind of high speed internet it is like satilite, exept it goes to a tower not to far away, so the latancy isn't 2-3 seconds it is like 40 ms, so i would be able to game
