I know its a morbid subject, and I don't really like things that concern with real deaths etc, but I was curious if any of you have ever seen any news pieces about people who have died during popular television shows whether they be dating shows, or reality TV/stunt shows etc?

I'm especially curious to figure out if anyone has ever died while filming the Fear Factor series, whether it be to a severe allergic reaction from some of the stuff they have to ingest or some freak accident gone wrong on the props they use.

Also along the same lines, i'm very curious about Ripley's believe it or not as well, if anyone has died trying to get in the records for them publically. I don't mean doing something dumb in private trying to get in the records, but when filming and doing something incredibly dangerous. For example, they had one episode where a guy let his girlfriend bungee jump off a casino in vegas, and prevented her from splatting using just his own body strength. Nothing bad happened, but it very easily could have resulting in a death, so i'm just curious if you guys could dig up any info on anything like this, would be kinda interesting to read if its ever happened!

Or is this just a stupid topic? <waits for Stern to come in here saying its a dumb topic>

I don't know of any deaths, but I do remember one episode I saw that I think was Ripley's Believe it or Not. Though it might have been something else as it was a while ago.

Anyway, they dropped the largest rubber band ball out of an airplane to see if it would bounce. But on the way to the loction the helicopter carrying some of the crew for the show and some other people hit a powerline and crashed. Nobody was seriously injured, but it was a close call.

Yeah I saw that episode. That was crazy. Its kinda stuff like that, that i'm looking for. Not near death stuff, but actual deaths whether it be from cast or crew. Just think it'd be interesting, and a bummer.

I can't recall anything..

Usually things that probably wouldn't make it to the public's eyes/ears.

someone died during the chariot scene in ben hur. well actually thats an urban legend, someone needed stiches though :)

I think if someone died during Fear Factor it would be big news.. and if the Fear Factor production team was found to be the slightest bit responsable, they would be yanked off the air so fast that it would leave vapor trails.

Some guy fell into a fire during Survivor and got burned pretty bad, and that was all over the media.

I remember that...they made it part of the show.

Not exactly the same thing, but the main actor of The Crow died in mid production when a gun that was suppose to be shooting blanks fired a real bullet and killed him.

And that was not just anybody,. that was Brandon Lee, Bruce Lee's only son.

now if i can find his daughter.. i will fully avenge my sensei!

Bruce Lee's son died (blanks turned out to be real bullets) during the filming of The Crow! That's all I can think of.

During the filming of a helicopter scene in The Twilight Zone Movie, the helicopter crashed into and killed the male actor and I think two children that were also in the scene.

I feel sick for posting that :|

Thanks for the update

I can'te remeber specifics, but there have been several deaths during movie productions. One guy shot himself in the head with a blank, and it killed him anyway.

I've heard of at least two other cases like this but cant recall ATM.

well, i heard that bruce lee's son died! there were bullets in a gun that was supposed to have blanks!

Vic Morrow was killed during the fliming of the 1983 Twilight Zone film. He was killed in a freak accident on set involving a helicopter. The film was released with the scenes he filmed intact.

Behind Brandon Lee's Death
Two weeks before he was due to be married, actor Brandon Lee was killed on the North Carolina set of the motion picture "The Crow." A scene in the movie called for Lee to enter a room where actor Michael Massee was to shoot him using a revolver loaded with blanks. When the handgun was fired, a real projectile penetrated Lee's abdomen and lodged next to his vertebrae. He was rushed to hospital but died in the operating room.

An investigation into his death revealed that the handgun had once been loaded with "dummy" cartridges for an earlier scene. (A dummy is a fake cartridge with a bullet but no gunpowder). To make the dummies for this production, real cartridges were purchased from a local gun shop, the bullets removed, the gunpowder dumped out and the bullets reinserted into the empty cases.

Although this was a dangerous practice, the inexperienced crew simply did what they thought best under the pressure of both time and budget.

According to the investigation, the handgun was loaded with these dummy cartridges during a previous scene and one of the bullets became accidentally lodged in the barrel. How it got stuck there was never conclusively proven, but some witnesses stated they saw an actor playing with the gun and pulling the trigger. This would have discharged one of the primers and propelled the bullet slightly forward. The primer is a simple sparking cap and is designed to initiate the ignition of the gunpowder when struck by the firing pin. If there is no gunpowder to ignite, the spark of the primer has enough energy to propel the bullet forward an inch or two. Unfortunately, there is little or no noise resulting from a primer ignition without gunpowder, which is why this situation is often refered to as a "primer pop."

On the night of Lee's death on March 31, 1993, no one thought to first check the barrel for obstructions before loading the firearm with blanks. A blank has more gunpowder than an actual cartridge in order to create the bright flash out the muzzle. The gun was loaded with blanks, pointed directly at Brandon Lee and fired. He immediately collapsed, although it took a few seconds for the crew to realize he had been hurt. He was rushed to the hospital and died 13 hours later.

Who would have guessed he could be in 2 places at once?
lol, is there anything more humorous than brutal dismemberment? :)

This thread has taken the decapatation of an actor and turned it into a punchline! Nice job! :)

Not an angry tone btw

I find the best way to deal with an unfortanate event is to make it humorous.

I mean its like 9/11...the day cannabis was legalized in new york.

If its funny, you dont get depressed as much by the actual shock of it.

Well, he didn't die, but in Enter the Dragon, Bruce Lee kicks a guy in slow-motion right in the chest during the second-last fight scene.

In reality, he actually kicked hard enough that quite a few ribs were busted. So the scene is actually a real-life KO. A painful one, too.

Not a death but a funny nonetheless:)

During filming on Cyborg- in the scene where Jean Claude VD takes on the silent assasins (with green face masks), he accidentally chopped off one of their hands......and people say he's a wuss:p

He got his ass kiked. :p

Ooh, I just remembered another one.

Candid Camera did a sequence in an airport where they tricked a guy into going through the X-ray machine.
When he came out the other side, he was bleeding, bruised and in a lot of pain.

They didn't air that episode, of course.

I don't know about ant deaths, but Viggo Mortenson broke two toes when he kicked that orc-helmet in The Two Towers.
