I'm new to the forum, so I'm not sure if a lot of people here play or talk about HL2DM, and I don't know if this is a dumb question or not, but I'll go ahead and ask it. I've been obsessed with deathmatch/team deathmatch for about 6 months now, and it really is a lot of fun (more fun than CSS, IMO). It seems to me like there isn't a huge amount of people who play it though since there isn't a whole lot of servers, at least compared to CSS. I think a lot of people might overlook it in favor of CSS, or just plain forget it's available with HL2. Also, I've noticed Valve hasn't made any real updates or additions directly concerning DM in a long time. I personally think HL2DM is a great multiplayer game, especially with all of the custom maps, the fast pace, the fun Half-Life weapons, and the awesome physics engine to play around with. Anybody else enjoy HL2DM?

I used to like it but I got bored of it. The fact that Valve hasn't given us any new HL2DM content in like 9 months doesn't help either.

'xactly.

CSS gets all the cool stuff, while HL2DM gets the perpetual shaft.
The one with the headcrab rockets is awesome, but you can only play the same six maps so many times.
I haven't played it in such a time that I forgot the name of the map I played like a hundred times. :P

And don't even get me started on how much the user-made maps tend to either suck hard or go unjoined.

I still love deathmatch. enuff said, CS:S gets all the attention because of the hudge market for real life gun porn orgasm's.

I do, with no end in sight. I consider it the best multiplayer game out there. Haven't played in a month though because of some computer malfunctions. I should get back into the game sometime this week. :)

I downloaded HL2: DM Pro, which made the game a lot more fun. I think any death match style game needs bunnyhopping :p. Loads of new maps, tweaks and enhancements.

Only played it a few times but it's good fun.

I'll second that. It truly is the best deathmatch you can play. Closest rivals to it are MOH, Q3, and maybe HL1DM :p

The problem with it is that there are many skills specific to HL2 which you have to learn to even begin to compete. Basically - you have to master the grav gun! You need to know how to grav-grenade, switch to grav gun in a split second to catch something heading your way (like a table, grenade/exploding barrel or combine ball), or even sometimes to quickly move an obstacle blocking your path.
Unfortunately, because of this, 'n00bs' tend to find themselves on a steep learning curve; and may not return to the game if they get too frustrated

psshs i like the source engine and all but cs 1.6 > HL2DM imo

i do enjoy hl2dm alot although it has its problems - speed, movement being my pet peeves
if it had decent offline bot support and more maps i'd never stop booting it for quick sessions :(

its such a shame that most servers only have lockdown and overwatch on rotation
its a shame because i only play team deathmatch and some of the newer maps are great for that

HL2DM is the best multiplayer game I've played.

I do wish more people would play it (although I haven't played it in a couple months due to school). IMO there are many many good maps out there and plenty of servers with good map rotations (but also too many servers with only Killbox) - there are even some great Goldeneye maps out there.

It would be nice to have some more "professional" maps released by Valve though...
