Any interest in a new Xwing or Tie Fighter game?

Epic games back in the day, but all form of flight/space simulators have died out in recent years.

Personally i would love one, but the technology would need to allow you to fly to planets and cities in planets in real time. There was a video of some company demoing this kind of tech a few years ago but i can't find the link. Does anyone remember seeing something like this a few years ago?

It showed someone flying above a planet, then comes close to a space station, then flys down to the planet through the atmosphere among the mountains.

What?

Technology-wise Tie Fighter 2 would be piss easy for even a moderately competent developer to make. Just a bunch of ship models and a 2d background, add in some dogfighting mechanics.

Bam.

I would commit atrocities if it meant more Star Wars space sims.

A "Freelancer 2" would be nice.

-MRG

I am okay with this.

-Ace
(p.s. have you ever considered putting -MRG on the first line of your sig so you don't have to type it every time?)

This thread is making my joystick all hot and bothered. All power to engines god damn it.

I NEED TO KNOW THE TERROR OF FLYING DOWN THE SPINE OF A TRAITOR IMPERIAL STAR DESTROYER AGAIN. RAMMMMMMIIIINNNNGGG SPPPEEEEEEEEEEED!

A new StarWars space sim would be really sweet.
I'm also here to represent Freelancer 2. :)

Erm, how about 'yes'? Another chance to kill rebel scum and slaughter traitors to the Empire? What kind of Imperial Citizen would say no to such a chance? I say YES to a sequel to TIE Fighter.

...A sequel to X-wing Alliance would probably also be nice, I guess.

This is what I get for having memories:

I have no idea when this was posted, and I know of the developments since this was probably posted, but still. Take note of the second post. All I have to say about it is

BULL
SHIT.

You know what the sickest part is? Lucasarts doesn't even list any of their space sims on their main bloody page. Doesn't even have a forum subsection. They go to LENGTHS to try and make the gaming populace forget. About one of the holy freaking grails of gaming. And you know what they have the gall to ****ing say? That there isn't a market for space sims anymore. You want to know why there isn't a market? Do you? BECAUSE THEY HAVEN'T MADE A WELL MARKETED SPACE SIM IN ABOUT A DECADE AND A HALF. Then they'll tell you about the joystick gap. About how it drives off the customer. You want to know why you don't see a long shelf of joysticks at the electronics store anymore? BECAUSE OF THE SAME GOD DAMN ALL CAPS REASON AS BEFORE. I swear to every deity ever dreamt up that if even a ****ing shiver of a whisper came out about a sequel to Tie Fighter, children in third world countries would save up their hard earned sweatshop half-pennies for YEARS just to buy the crappiest joystick model JUST so they could play it if it came out. Don't give me that SHIT, Lucasarts. Or YOU, 'Totally'games. You are all cowards, unworthy even to lick the pixelated testicles of ET in you-know-what. Stick to your Lego cash nipples, assholes. My dreams of hyperspace dried up long ago.

Ah. It turn's out the only reason it isn't open source is because they have no money or are too lazy to do some polishing:

God, I played those games like it was my job. I'd love to see a new one some day.

Yes please. With modern technology I'm sure we could create some of the most epic space battles from the old films.

Good Lord man! Would you even consider asking Angry Lawyer to do this?

Blah, blah, blah. Yes, flying ships, cool, but it's been done before in the SW game universe.

What I don't understand is why there ISN'T A ****ING GAME WHERE YOU PLAY AS BOBA FETT WHERE YOU FIND CLUES, SOLVE MYSTERIES, AND BREAK ARMS IN ORDER TO HUNT DOWN THE GALAXY'S MOST WANTED CRIMINALS?

WHY DOES NO GAME PUBLISHER REALIZE THE POTENTIAL CASH COW OF CREATING AN RPG BASED ON THE GALAXY'S MOST FEARED BOUNTY HUNTER AND PROBABLY THE BIGGEST FAN JERK OFF MATERIAL?

Yes, I know there was one on Jango Fett, **** Jango Fett.
Bioware could do it. Make it like KOTOR or Mass Effect.

I'd rather play a game as

A Jedi.

They've never done that before.

Personally, I'd rather play a game as

Grand Admiral Thrawn posing as Jodo Kast posing as Boba Fett

Oh... oh... oh... Thrawn. God I want a SW strategy game based on the Thrawn trilogy.

Expanded Star Wars universe is the greatest part of Star Wars. I especially love the star wars tabletop RPG stuff.

Oh GOD! Too many Darkside avatar variations!

Isnt there a SW MMORPG coming soon? Hardly going to be a WoW killer but anyway.

Least the concept looks promising.

I actually just got an offer to work on that game. I never played an MMO before, but it'll be interesting to see if it keeps a real Star Wars feel. Some of the character designs I saw sort of had a generic fantasy-ish look to them, as if the artists never actually saw Star Wars, but I'm interested to see how it turns out, whether I'm helping on it or not. 0:

Implying there is any reason, ever, to not have more Star Wars space sim, much less to make room for MORE Star Wars CRAPGENRE.

.
For every planck time you have ever existed, I will kill you.

Btw, you could fly a Firespray-31 (Slave 1 was one) in XWA, just not in the main campaign.
I suppose you could in Rogue Squadron 2 as well... but I refuse to talk about those games in the same thread as this.

Hell yeah. Unfortunately Star Wars games of the last decade have focused way too much on the prequel stuff.

I always found the epilogue stuff to be much more interesting. I grew up on the Rogue Squadron book series.
