did they mention any changes to CS, or is it a direct port w/ absolutely no changes except the graphics.

1st thread = w00t

They said it would pretty much be a total port, apart from the addition of some new maps.

From the video it appeared to have the same weapons and items but all graphically enhanced. Hopefully they'll add a few new things just to freshen it up a little like a few guns or features, such as terrorists being able to grab hostages and use them as a body shield :)

I imagine they'd save those for their new Counter-Strike game.

I'm sure they would, gits ;(

I think they could add a few more weapons or maybe some customizations for the weapon, like a grenade launcher or something.

Maybe the Yogurt Cannon will finally be in CS Source!

They said they're not going to change the gameplay at all so I guess that rules out new weapons and items because adding new ones would change the current balance.

its gonna begin as a total port
but from there, it has no limit

Can you perhaps say 'the' next time? It's not as if it's very hard ...

But I agree the shield is a bit annoying.

Will you kiss my ass?

But annoy a huge humber of l33ts, I imagine :p
I'd love to see the outcry at that!

Hmm, productive aren't you, Tr0n ....

Anyways, I'm hoping that the extra physics will allow for some new, tactical styles, like blocking paths, etc ... wonder how long it'd take the custom maps to appear (esp. the Rats ones, which could get even better - imagine the size of things that could fall on you there!!)

(EDIT - Sorry for double post!)

God, I sure hope they have Gooseman working on this. And I sure as hell hope they aren't shoving him around and telling him how to make it, because Valve isn't that great when it comes to games of that nature IMO. When they took over CS and changed it all around, it just doesn't feel the same and isn't as fun to the majority of people, including me.

CS was it's best in the beta days, and I really hope Valve isn't going to get their fingers all over it even if they own the titles and everything. Goose, if you're reading this which I know you're not, DON'T LET THEM KILL YOUR CREATION AGAIN!!

Who are the majority of people? Those who used to play it? CS is the "world's most popular online game" now so I'm sure it won't matter to them ...
Anyways, is Gooseman still working on CS - i thought he was, but I'm not sure now - can someone clear this up for me ...

That'd be great if they took the AWP out.

It'd be even greater if they took your eyes out with forks.

The majority of people are the people who played both before AND after Valve started changing things around at will. CS was and STILL is the "world's most popular online game", I know. The majority of people who feel like it was more fun before Valve took over still play, it's not like they all quit, and now it's the biggest game ever.

Anyway I wanted to mail Goose and Cliffe about this, so I went to counter-strike.net (god it's been a long time since I've seen that site) to get their email addresses. I send goose and cliffe an e-mail, and it just happens that goose's is invalid :\. Does anyone know his email addy?

I get enough of people whinging about awps, insisting they all 500000 of them played beta 1 despite it only being downloaded a fraction of that amount etc etc etc on steam and cs forums. If you don't like CS don't play it, simple.

Right, back on topic.

There was talk a long time back during gearbox's time on cz about molotov cocktails that could be thrown to create a temporary fire, I thought that was a great idea for tactics and the like and would work well on the source engine for cs2 although I don't think they'll make any gameplay changes to cs:source.

Not sure about Goose but I got replies from Jesse on [email protected]
He might be able to put you in contact with goose but he's been very quite ever since the sale of cs to valve.

Yeah now that I think about it that's pretty true. Thanks.

Anyway I agree, the complaints are really annoying. Especially since those same complainers are probably the people who whined their way into pressuring Valve into making all of the changes to CS that they have.

Also, it seems as if Goose has been really working his ass off with Valve with whatever he is doing, which is probably a good thing :cheese:

they are making a CS port, not CS 2 so i dunno....

Did you even read the thread? It's been clearly established that it's unknown but more than likely (the CS2 possibility). I hate it when people reply without reading anything. Like they're so anxious to put in their oh so holy and respected input that they can't be bothered by... oh I dunno.. reading the thread.

the people who whine and bitch about "old cs" are stuck in old memories. CS isn't going back to being more un-realistic, just face and try to look at the better of the changes.

they are making a CS port, not CS 2... am I wrong?

Why don't you read the threads? Then maybe you could come back and stop asking stupid questions!

(And seeing as ur most unlikely to do so, yes they're making a CS:Source (port) and may start work on CS2 after they finish HL2)

cs source

But guys, don't you see? The maps! The maps are key for cs:s!

Just think of all the changes that can be made by creating custom maps:
1)vehicles
2)alternative weapons (catapults, big rocks, eventually even a trap-map, water, etc...)
3)the size of the maps will also increase
4)the number of players will increase as well
5)we could even have buildings that fall over when the had to many bullets
... much more I can't think of (ie. cranes, planes, whatever)

-> all this, without touching one word of code. Just think about what good maps may change for cs.

It's gonna be awesome, I just know it.

damn!!! I want this game!!!! :(

There are so many creative custom maps out there. I can't wait for the source engine for maps like catapult. Fun stuff.

I think one of the guys from Seoul or whatever said that when you use your radio (commands) you have to wait a few seconds to use your weapons.

That's really unnecessary if you ask me, although there should be something to prevent the constant spamming of radio commands like DoD has.

That would be a great game, but it wouldn't and shouldn't be what cs turns into.
